Additional patent to main patent No. 397120 Process for the production of new vat dyes The main patent describes a process for the production of new vat dyes, which is characterized in that vat dyestuff sulfonic acid N, ß-hydroxyethylamides are converted into the corresponding ß-halo transferred genäthylamide.
The invention relates to new vat dyes which contain at least one grouping of the formula (1) -SO2-R or -S-R in the molecule, in which R is a haloalkyl group. R preferably represents the radical of the formula -CH2CH2-halogen, where halogen means, for example, a bromine atom, but in particular a chlorine atom.
The term vat dyes includes dyes that are converted into a so-called leuco form or vat, which has a better affinity for natural or regenerated cellulose fibers than the non-reduced form, and which can be returned to the original chromophoric system by oxidation .
Particularly suitable vat dyes are those of the anthraquinone series, for example those which contain an unchanged 9,10-dioxoanthracene ring, but also those anthraquinones which also contain fused carbocycles or heterocyclic rings or which consist of several anthraquinone units, as well as vat dyes Perylenetetracarboxylic acid,
the naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid, the pyrenequinone series and indigoid vat dyes. In addition to at least one group of the formula (1), the dyes can also contain the substituents customary in vat dyes, such as. B. contain halogen atoms, alkoxy groups, acylamino groups or aryl amino groups.
In certain cases, the presence of hydrophilic groups, in particular sulfonic acid groups or sulfato groups, can also be advantageous.
The new dyes are obtained by treating a vat dye containing at least one hydroxyalkylsulphonyl or hydroxyalkylsulphido group with chlorinating agents.
The starting materials are preferably anthraquinone vat dyes containing one or two hydroxyalkylsulphone or hydroxyalkylsulphide groups, preferably β-hydroxyethylsulphone or β-hydroxyethylsulphide groups, for example the mono- or di-β-hydroxyethylsulphones of 1,5-dibenzoylamino anthraquinone ,
of the dibenzanthrone or isodibenzanthrone, as well as the hydroxyethyl sulfones or sulfides of the anthanthrone, dibenzpyrenquinone, pyranthrone, acedianthrone, flavanthrone, indanthrone, N, N'-diethyldipyrazolanthronyls, N, N'-diisopropyl, N, N'-diisopropyl N) 1 ', 2' (N)
-naphthacridons, des 1,1'-dianthrimide carbazole, 2 ', 2 "-di-phenylanthrachinon-1,2 (N) -5,7 (N) -dithiazole. In addition to the mentioned β-hydroxyethyl sulfones or sulfides Of the anthrachinone series, such sulfones or sulfones of indigoid vat dyes, perylenetetracarboxylic acid dimides or of perinone dyes come into consideration.
The mentioned ss-hydroxyethyl sulfones or sulfides can respectively by reacting the corresponding sulfinates. Mercaptans are obtained with chloroethyl alcohol, or by reacting a vat dye containing mobile halogen atoms, for example a vat dye sulfonic acid halide or an aminoanthraquinone whose amino group bears a chlorotriazine residue,
with an amine of the formula
EMI0001.0109
Acid-chlorinating agents such as phosphorus halides or thionyl chloride should be mentioned as halogenating agents. The dyes obtained can be isolated from the mixture position and processed into usable dry dye preparations despite the presence of the reactive group of the formula (1).
The new dyes are suitable for dyeing a wide variety of materials, but especially for dyeing or printing textile materials made from natural or regenerated cellulose by the usual vat dyeing and printing processes. The dyeings and prints obtained in this way are distinguished by excellent light and wet fastness properties. Since the dyes, in contrast to conventional vat dyes, can usually no longer be removed significantly from the fiber by hot dimethylformamide, one must assume that they are chemically bound to the fiber.
The dyeings obtained with the dyes according to the invention are therefore also fast to dry cleaning and fast to migration. The dyed fabrics can therefore be coated with synthetic resins, for example polyvinyl chloride, without the dye migrating into the synthetic material, which is particularly important in the manufacture of synthetic leather.
The dyes prepared according to the invention can usually be vat very easily, often even at room temperature. In particular, the water-soluble dyes containing the remainder of the formula (1) can be vat very quickly, even with mild reducing agents such as glucose.
Since the reactivity of the halogen atoms in the alkyl radical can be slightly different from case to case, it is advantageous to adapt the coloring method, i.e. in particular the concentration of the alkali and the reducing agent as well as the duration and temperature during dyeing or steaming, to the dye. The most favorable conditions can easily be determined through preliminary tests.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 4.1 parts of the dye of the formula
EMI0002.0017
are heated in 33 parts of nitrobenzene with the addition of 1.45 parts by volume of thionyl chloride and 0.3 parts by volume of dimethylformamide for 2 hours to 120 to 125 with stirring. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered, the filter cake is washed with ethanol and dried at 60 to 70 under vacuum.
The dye of the formula thus obtained
EMI0002.0024
dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose according to the method given in Example 3 in real yellow tones.
Example 2 1.25 parts of the dye of the formula
EMI0002.0026
are stirred in 30 parts of nitrobenzene with the addition of 0.35 parts by volume of thionyl chloride and 0.05 parts by volume of dimethylformamide for 1 hour at 125. After cooling to 5, the mixture is stirred for a further 1 hour at this temperature, the reaction product iso lated by filtration washed with ethanol and dried at 60 to 70 under vacuum. The dye of the formula obtained in this way
EMI0002.0031
is an organ-yellow-colored, crystalline product that dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose according to example 3 in pure and real yellow tones.
The starting dye can be prepared as follows. A solution of 1.8 parts of aminoanthraquinones of the formula
EMI0003.0001
in 40 parts by volume of N-methyl-pyrrolidone, 4.9 parts of 2-phenyl-benzothiazole-6-carboxylic acid chloride are added at 120, the mixture is stirred at 165 for 3 minutes, cooled and diluted with 150 ml of absolute ethanol. The separated dye intermediate is separated off, briefly boiled in 50 ml of absolute ethanol, separated off and dried.
Example 3 A fine suspension of 3.0 parts of the intermediate dye of the formula
EMI0003.0009
in 30 parts of nitrobenzene, 0.7 parts by volume of thionyl chloride and 0.15 parts by volume of dimethylformamide are stirred at 125 for 4 hours. The isolated dye of the formula
EMI0003.0014
When dried, it is a dark red-brown product which dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose in bright red shades according to the following dyeing instructions.
14 parts of the dye obtained in accordance with paragraph 1 are finely ground with 126 parts of a neutral solution of 125 parts of dinaphthylmethanedisulfonic acid in 1000 parts of water in a ball mill for 24 hours. 7.5 parts of the paste thus obtained who suspended in 250 parts of warm water.
The dye suspension thus obtained is poured into a 50 warm solution of 10 parts by volume of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution and 6 parts of sodium dithionite in 1750 parts of water and vat for one minute. In the dyebath thus obtained, 50 parts of cotton are dyed for 45 minutes at 50 to 60 times with the addition of 60 parts of sodium chloride. After dyeing, the material to be dyed is rinsed and soaped at the boil.
The starting substance can be prepared as follows: A fine suspension of 3.25 parts of disulfochloride of the formula
EMI0003.0031
2.47 parts of p-aminophenyl (ss-hydroxy-ethyl) sulfone and 0.3 part of anhydrous sodium carbonate in 50 parts of nitrobenzene and 8 parts by volume of N, N'-diethylaniline are heated at 1651 for 1 hour stirred and cooled. The isolated intermediate dye product is boiled in 80% ethyl alcohol,
separated from alcohol and dried. When dried, it is a dark brown powder that no longer contains any chlorine.
