Description

  Piezoelectric transducer with acceleration compensation
The invention relates to a piezoelectric measuring transducer with acceleration compensation by means of a compensation element, which is connected against the piezoelectric measuring crystal set and consisting of at least one disk made of piezoelectric material, which, together with the measuring crystal set, is held under pretension between a support rigidly connected to the transducer housing and a wilder bearing spring-loaded towards the support.

In this known transducer, a massive discharge electrode is used between the measuring crystal set and the compensation element formed by a piezoelectric crystal disk. Together with the measuring crystal set, this forms a seismic mass which, when accelerations occur, generates a charge in the compensation disk whose absolute value corresponds to the charge portion of the measuring crystal set caused by acceleration forces and independent of the actual measured variable. As a result of the opposite polarity of the measuring crystal set and the compensation element, the acceleration-dependent charge components cancel each other out, so that the measurement result remains free from the effects of acceleration.

A prerequisite for this, however, is a limitation of the charge output of the compensation element, which is achieved in the known measuring transducer by using a compensation disk with a piezo module reduced by one third compared to the measuring crystal set. The manufacture of compensation disks of this type is very difficult and cumbersome, since they have to be cut out of the crystal at a certain angle to the X-axis of the crystal.

Another disadvantage of the known transducer design is the relatively low natural frequency of the device, which is therefore only conditionally suitable for precision measurements of rapidly running processes, such as the pressure curve in the cylinders of an internal combustion engine.

The present invention now pursues the goal of creating a measuring transducer with complete acceleration compensation, avoiding the disadvantages of the known device, which is particularly suitable for efficient serial production. For this purpose, it is provided according to the invention that between the compensation element and a housing insert that forms the bearing with its end face, an insulating washer provided with a metal coating on both end faces is arranged, the coating on the end face in contact with the compensation element being separated into two from one another by a coating-free separation zone isolated sections is divided,

One of which serves as a discharge electrode for the discharge of charge from the compensation element and is conductively connected to the coating on the support-side end face of the insulating washer via a metallic bridge arranged on the circumference of the insulating washer.

In accelerometers it is known to arrange one or more compensation disks between the piezoelectric system and the adjacent abutment. However, these compensation disks serve to compensate for temperature influences on the accelerometer and are therefore made of a material whose coefficient of expansion is greater than that of the adjacent abutment and the piezo system itself.

In the transducer according to the invention, on the other hand, the charge generated by the compensation element under the action of acceleration forces is dissipated from the section of the metal coating of the insulating disk serving as a discharge electrode via the connecting bridge to the support. By appropriate arrangement and dimensioning of the coating-free separation zone, the charge output of the compensation element can therefore be reduced to any desired extent compared to the total charge generated by the compensation element. If the same normally cut crystal disks are used for the compensation element as for the measuring crystal set, there are considerable advantages in terms of production and storage compared to the previously mentioned, previously known transducer design.

The production of the metallic coverings as well as the connecting bridge on the circumference of the insulating disk can be carried out by one of the known methods, for example by vapor deposition of a gold or silver layer, the surface parts excluded from the metallization being covered. Although this method allows a very precise adherence to the desired surface area of the discharge electrode, for special requirements, the charge output can also be fine-tuned by removing small parts of the electrode coating. In this way it is possible to practically completely eliminate the influence of acceleration forces on the measurement result.

The high measuring precision that can be achieved as a result and the possibility of equipping transducers of this type with high natural frequencies enable their unrestricted use in most areas of piezoelectric measuring technology.

In a preferred embodiment, the coating-free separation zone forms an annular surface concentric to the axis of the insulating washer. This type of subdivision of the electrode covering of the insulating washer is particularly advantageous because, on the one hand, because of the existing axis symmetry when assembling the crystal arrangement, a predetermined relative position of the insulating washer to the compensation element does not have to be taken into account and, on the other hand, the surface area of the outer ring-shaped section of the M; Etallbelageis with great accuracy can be eihg & balten.

However, the coating-free separation zone can also run along a chord of the end face of the insulating washer. This design is to be used above all when the compensation element comprises a single non-metallized crystal disk. In this case, too, the insulating disk and the compensation disk can be arranged in any relative position to one another when the encoder is being installed.

It can prove to be advantageous that, in the case of a compensation element consisting of several disks made of piezoelectric material, both end faces of each disk are provided with a metal coating and the coatings of the same polarity are conductively connected to one another and each with one of the coatings on the end faces of the compensation element in a manner known per se are, and that the lining resting on the insulating disk has a lining-free separating zone which is congruent with the separating zone of the insulating disk. The same high sensitivity is thus achieved for the compensation crystal set as for the actual measuring crystal set, which is of great importance in particular in the case of acceleration-compensated low-pressure transducers, which are subject to particularly high demands with regard to their sensitivity.

When assembling Ider Kiisitalllsch! eiben idles compensation. However, care must be taken to ensure the correct mutual position of the panes, as otherwise short circuits between the different electrode coatings of the individual crystal panes and, in the case of transducer designs with a separation zone running along a chord on the contact surfaces of the insulating pane with the adjacent crystal pane of the compensation element, also short circuits of the isolated from one another Sections of the metal coverings of these surfaces could occur.

Further details emerge from the following description of the exemplary embodiments of the invention shown in the drawing:
1 shows an axial section of the area of a piezoelectric pressure transmitter that is essential to the invention, FIG. 2 shows an oblique bottom view of a detail according to FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows an axial section of the component shown in FIG. 2, FIG. 4 shows a partial axial section of a piezoelectric low pressure transmitter according to FIG 5 essential components of the pressure transducer according to FIG. 4 in an axonometric view, FIG. 6 shows an axial section of a compensation element of a modified embodiment of the invention and FIG. 7 shows an axonometric view of components of the compensation element according to FIG. 6.

The piezoelectric pressure transducer according to FIG. 1 has an offset hollow cylindrical housing 1 which contains an axially drilled through insert 2. The insert 2 is rigidly connected to the transmitter housing 1 in a manner not shown. The insert 2 has a centering flange 3 to which a tubular spring 4 is welded with its reinforced edge 5. The bottom 6 of the ruff spring 4 is supported on a plate membrane 7 welded to the end face of the encoder housing 1.

The piezoelectric measuring element of the pressure transducer is arranged within an insulating tube 8 resting against the inner wall of the Bourdon tube 4 and held under axial pretension between the bottom 6 of the Bourdon tube 4 and the end face 9 of the insert 2, which serves as a fixed support. The measuring element comprises a metallic or metallized intermediate disk 10 lying directly on the base 6 of the Bourdon tube 4, on which a piezoelectric crystal disk 11, e.g. B. a quartz disc, rests with the face on which the positive charges arise. The positive charges of the crystal disk 11 are diverted via the intermediate disk 10 to the base 6 of the tubular spring 4 and from there to the transmitter housing 1. The intermediate disk 10 can also function as a temperature compensation disk.

The negative charges of the measuring crystal disk 11 are discharged via a SchleibentelGrode 12 lying on the disk 11 and a connection line 13, which is led through the axial bore of the insert 2 lined with an insulating tube 14 and which is not shown with a connection plug stripped from the encoder housing 1 of the transducer is connected.

On the disk electrode 12 is an axially pierced piezoelectric crystal disk 15, which consists of the same material as the disk 11 and has the same piezo module as this. The disk 15 represents the compensation element of the pressure transducer, which is the actual measured variable caused by acceleration forces, e.g. B. the pressure, independent charges emitted by the measuring crystal set are compensated. For this purpose, the disk 15 is positioned opposite the measuring crystal disk 11, i. H. that is, that it is in contact with the disk electrode 12 with the end face on which the positive charges arise.

An insulating disk 16 which is also axially drilled through is inserted between the compensation disk 15 and the end face 9 of the insert 2. This insulating washer, which can also consist of quartz, for example, far both end faces metallic coverings, eg. B. vapor-deposited gold layers on. While the lining 17 covers the entire end face of the insulating washer 16 on the side facing the housing insert 2, the lining on the opposite end face of the insulating washer 16 is divided into two isolated sections 19 and 20 by a lining-free separation zone 18 running along a chord. The smaller section 19 in terms of area is connected in an electrically conductive manner to the covering 17 on the opposite side of the disk 16 via a metallic bridge 21 arranged on the circumference of the insulating disk 16.

The negative charges occurring on the contact surface of the compensation disk 15 with the insulating disk 16 are therefore only diverted from that surface part of the compensation disk 15 which is in contact with the section 19 of the lining of the insulating disk 16. This portion of the charge is discharged to the transmitter housing via the bridge 21 and the closed metal coating 17 of the insulating disk 16. By precisely coordinating the area ratios of the isolated sections 19 and 20, extensive compensation of the acceleration-dependent charges of the measuring element can be achieved.

The low-pressure transducer according to FIG. 4 has a recessed hollow-cylindrical housing 22 with an end-side centering edge 23 to which a plate spring membrane 24 is welded with its reinforced edge 25. In the encoder housing 22, two concentric insulating tubes 26 and 27 are arranged at a small radial distance from one another. The outer insulating tube 26 rests against the inner wall of the encoder housing 22. The measuring element of the pressure transducer is arranged within the insulating tube 27 between the bottom of the diaphragm 24 and the end face 28 of a central housing insert 29. The axial preload of the measuring element is generated by the spring force of the diaphragm 24.

An insulating disk 31, on which a disk-shaped Ableitelek electrode 32 aui t, follows a support disk 30 lying undilitably on the inner surface of the membrane 24. E; A connection line 33 extending from the circumference of the deflection electrode 32 is led between the two insulating tubes 26 and 27 to a connection socket of the transmitter, which cannot be seen in the drawing. The measuring crystal set following the lead electrode 32 is designed as a layered body made of a plurality of piezoelectric crystal disks 34. A disk electrode 35 rests on the uppermost disk 34 of the measuring crystal set and is connected to the second connection socket of the pressure transducer, likewise not shown, via a connecting line 36 extending from its circumference.

The compensation element of the low-pressure transducer according to FIG. 4 is likewise designed as a layered body and comprises three piezoelectric crystal disks with differently designed metal coatings. An insulating disk 37 is inserted between the compensation element and the housing insert 29, the inner face of which is entirely provided with a metallic coating 38 and the outer face of which has a coating divided by a separation zone 39 into two isolated sections 40 and 41. The section 40 is conductively connected to the covering 38 via a bridge 21 ′ on the circumference of the insulating disk 37.

The piezoelectric crystal disk 42 adjacent to the insulating disk 37 has, on its contact surface with the insulating disk 37, a metal coating which is congruent with the coating sections 40 and 41 and is divided into sections 40 'and 41' by a coating-free separation zone 39 '. A connecting bridge 43 on the circumference of the disk 42, which is conductively connected to the section 40 ′, engages with a tongue-like extension 44 on the other end face of the disk 42, which is provided with a coating 45. The tongue-like extension and the coating 45 are isolated from one another by a coating-free separating strip 46.

The two end faces of the following crystal disk 47 are metallized in the same way as the outer end face of the disk 42. The metal coverings of this disk 47 are denoted by 45 'and the connecting bridges arranged opposite one another are denoted by 43'. Between the tongue-like extensions 44 'of the bridges 43' and the coatings 45 'lying in the same plane, coating-free separating strips 46' are provided.

The third crystal disk 48 has a metallization that is congruent with the coating of the disk 47 only on its contact surface with the disk 47. The end face of the disk 48 resting on the disk electrode 35 is, however, provided with a continuous electrode coating 49, of which a single connecting bridge extends over to the opposite side of the disk 48.

The coordination of the charge output of the compensation element also takes place in this encoder version by appropriate arrangement of the coating-free separation zone 39 of the insulating disk 37 and the congruent separation zone 39 'of the adjacent disk 42 of the compensation element.

FIG. 6 shows the basic structure of a compensation element, likewise designed as a layered body, in a modified embodiment. The insulating washer 50 resting on the insert 29 fixed to the housing has a continuous metal coating 51 on its inner face and a coating on its outer face which is divided into sections 53 and 54 that are isolated from one another by an annular separating zone 52.

A connecting bridge 55 on the circumference of the disk 50 connects the annular support section 53 to the coating 51 on the opposite disk end face. The contact surface of the following piezoelectric crystal disk 56 is metallized to coincide. The sections of the metal coating that are isolated from one another are denoted by 53 'and 54', the annular separating zone by 52 '. The charge release of the compensation element is determined by the radius and the width of the separation zones 52 and 52 '.

A bridge 57 connected to the annular covering section 53 ′ engages with its tongue-like extension 58 on the outer face of the disk 56, which is provided with a covering 59, and is isolated from the covering 58 by a separating strip 60.

The two following piezoelectric crystal disks 61 and 62 of the compensation element are designed to match the disks 47 and 48 of the pressure transducer according to FIG.

The compensation elements of the two last-mentioned embodiments, which are constructed as laminated bodies, are connected against the measuring crystal set, as in the pressure transducer according to FIG. 1, so that the charges emitted by the compensation element compensate for the excess charge of the measuring crystal set caused by acceleration forces.

Within the scope of the invention, numerous modifications of the illustrated and described exemplary embodiments are possible, in particular with regard to the metal coatings of the insulating disk and the adjacent disk of the compensation element, which are responsible for coordinating the charge output of the compensation element and are interrupted by coating-free separation zones.
