They can also be used to control pests in the household and in industry, including house flies, cockroaches and Tribolium confusum.
It has also been found that the new halopyridyl compounds are extremely effective for combating many parasite organisms, especially those found on roots or on parts of growing plants exposed to the air, including aphids, mites, plant pathogens and insects, are.
At low concentrations, these compounds have outstanding activity against biting and sucking species of insects, such as, for example, Prodenia eridania, Aonidiella aurantii and Epilachna varivestis. They are also extremely valuable for the impregnation of soil in nematocidal concentrations for the control of nematodes, such as, for example, the tuberous nematodes.
The new compounds can also be used in paints, adhesives, soaps, high-quality fuels, polymer materials, cutting oils or in oil or latex paints in order to prevent attack by various pests and the destruction of such products as the result of an attack of bacterial and fungus organisms. Thus, the compounds obtainable according to the invention can be distributed in cellulosic materia lien or in gears, or they can be used to impregnate wood in order to preserve and protect such products from attack by putrefactive, mold and rotting organisms.
Furthermore, they can be applied to seeds in order to protect the seeds from infestation by pests.
The present invention further relates to agents which consist of one or more of the halopyridyl phosphates or which contain one or more of them as an active substance together with a carrier. These agents are generally very valuable for combating the undesirable pests mentioned above.
The present invention also relates to a method for controlling pests, such as insects or parasites, for example, in which an amount of one or more of the new compounds according to the invention effective against pests is applied to these, their location and / or their feed. The method according to the invention comprises the use of a liquid or dust-like composition which contains the toxicum.
In the preparation of the agent containing the toxicum, the halopyridyl compound can be modified with one or more of a wide variety of adjuvants, including aromatic solvents, petroleum distillates, aqueous liquid carriers, surface-active dispersants and finely divided inert solids.
Depending on the concentration of the active product in the agent, such agents with additives can be suitable for use on pests, their whereabouts or their feed, or used as concentrates and then diluted with other inert carriers in order to add the final treatment agent form. In agents which are to be used as concentrates, the toxicum can be present in a concentration of about 5 to 98% by weight.
The precise concentration of the halopyridyl compound used in an agent can vary, provided that an effective amount of toxicum is supplied to either the organism or its environment or its feed. This dose of toxicum depends mainly on the sensitivity of a particular organism to the halopyridyl compound. In general, good results can be obtained with liquid compositions containing the toxicant in an amount of 0.5 to 2000 parts by weight or more per million.
Sometimes compositions containing up to 90% by weight of toxicum can be used to advantage. For dusts, good results can be obtained with compositions containing 0.1 to 5% by weight or more of Toxicum.
In protecting and preserving adhesives, detergents, cutting oils, paints, polymeric materials, paper and other similar products, good results can be achieved if the compounds are incorporated into such products in an amount of at least 0.01% by weight and preferably in one Amount of 0.1 to 2.0 wt / o are introduced. Excellent results can be achieved in the preservation of wood if the joints are introduced through the usual treatment of wood in an amount of at least 0.8 kg / m3 of wood.
In the manufacture of dusts, the halopyridyl compound can be prepared with any finely divided solid such as pyrophyllite, diatomaceous earth or gypsum.
In such procedures, the finely divided carrier can be ground or mixed with the toxic or moistened with a solution of the toxic in a volatile organic solvent. Similarly, dusts containing the halopyridyl compound can be prepared with various solid surface active dispersants such as fuller's earth, attapulgite or other clays.
Depending on the proportions of the constituents, these dusts can be used as concentrates and then diluted with additional solid, surface-active dispersants or with pyrophyllite, diatomaceous earth, gypsum and the like in order to obtain the desired amount of active substance in one composition suitable for use to control pests. Such concentrated dusts can also be dispersed in water with or without the aid of dispersants to form spray mixtures.
Furthermore, the halopyridyl compound or a dust concentrate containing such a compound can be intimately mixed with surface-active dispersants, such as ionic and nonionic emulsifiers, to form spray concentrates. Such concentrates are readily dispersed in liquid carriers to form sprays containing the toxicant in any desired amount.
Similarly, the halopyridyl compound can be formulated with a suitable, water-immiscible, organic liquid and surface-active dispersant to form emulsifiable, liquid concentrates which can be mixed with water or oil to form spray mixtures in the form of oil- can be diluted in water emulsions.
In such compositions the carrier contains an aqueous emulsion, i. a mixture of water-immiscible solvents, emulsifiers and water. Dispersants preferred for use in these compositions are oil-soluble, and they include nonionic emulsifiers, such as organic acids, polyoxyethylene derivatives of sorbitan esters or complex ether alcohols.
However, it is also possible to use oil-soluble ionic emulsifiers, such as, for example, mahogany soaps. Organic liquids suitable for use in the compositions include petroleum and petroleum distillates, toluene, liquid halogenated hydrocarbons and synthetic organic oils.
When working according to the inventive method, the halopyridyl compound or an agent containing the toxicum is applied to the pests to be controlled or to their abode including the soil or to their feed in any suitable manner, for example with the help of hand atomizers or sprayers or by simple means Mix with the feed that is ingested by the organism.
The application to the foliage or leaves of plants can expediently be carried out by means of powerful atomizers, high-range sprays and spray atomizers. In such foliage applications, the agents used should not contain significant amounts of phytotoxic materials. When working on a large scale, dusts or low volume sprays can be applied from an airplane.
The following examples illustrate the invention without restricting it.
<I> Example 1 </I> <I> a) </I> 0-3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl-N, N'-dimethylphosphorodiamidate 9.9 g (0.05 mol) 3,5,6-Trichlor-2-pyridinol, 50% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (corresponding to 0.05 mol) and 200 ml of isobutyl methyl ketone were mixed together and heated at the boiling point to produce a mixture of about <B> 100 </ B> ml of reaction medium to be distilled off together with water of reaction in the amount of its formation. The remaining mixture was cooled to about 3 C, and 8.5 g (0.05 mol)
Phosphorothiochloride was added rapidly with stirring. The mixture was stirred for a further 1.5 hours, the temperature being allowed to rise to about 8 ° C. in order to obtain the intermediate product 0-3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl-phosphorodichloridothioate. Then methylamine was added to the mixture containing the intermediate. The addition of the methylamine took about 0.33 hours while maintaining the temperature of the reaction mixture at about 20 ° C. The mixture was stirred for a further 1 hour, the temperature of the reaction mixture being allowed to rise to 25.degree.
The reaction mixture was then washed with water and the reaction medium was removed by fractional distillation under reduced pressure. 0-3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl-N, N'-dimethylphosphorodiamidate was obtained as a residue. This product was recrystallized from petroleum ether (boiling range: 86 to 100 ° C.). It formed a white, crystalline solid substance from F = 86 to 89 C.
<I> b) </I> Dimethyl 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl phosphate 250 ml of isobutyl methyl ketone were mixed with 0.1 mol (19.9 g) of 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol with stirring and 0.1 mol of 50% sodium hydroxide were added, a very thick mixture being formed. Water was removed by distillation. This solution was cooled to about -40 ° C. and 0.1 mol (15.3 g) of phosphoryl chloride were added all at once while stirring.
The mixture was stirred for a further 0.5 hour while the temperature was allowed to rise to -10.degree. While stirring and cooling to -10 to 0 C, a solution of 0.2 mol (20.2 g) of triethylamine in 0.22 mol (7.0 g) of methanol was added dropwise within about 10 minutes. The mixture was stirred for a further 1.25 hours while the temperature was allowed to rise to 25.degree. 100 ml of water were added with stirring. The two layers were separated and the organic layer was washed with <B> 100 </B> ml of 2% sodium carbonate solution and finally with <B> 100 </B> ml of water.
The solvent was distilled off in vacuo. The residue was extracted with 100 ml of boiling petroleum ether (boiling range 60 to 70 ° C.) and then with a portion of 50 ml of boiling petroleum ether. The combined extracts were cooled in an ice water bath. The crystallized product was filtered off, washed and dried. Repeated recrystallization from petroleum ether gave a product with a melting point of 86.5 to 88 C.

<I> Example 2 </I> In separate operations, aqueous compositions of the pyridylphosphorus compounds prepared according to the invention were prepared as follows:
4 parts by weight of a halopyridyl phosphorus compound, 0.08 part of sorbitan trioleate (trade name Span 85) and 0.02 part of a sorbitan monolaurate polyoxyethylene derivative (trade name Tween 80) were dispersed in 40 ml of acetone to form a concentrated agent in the form of a water-dispersible liquid to build.
This concentrated agent was dispersed in water to obtain aqueous compositions containing varying amounts of the toxic.
Furthermore, the halopyridyl phosphorus compounds were prepared in water with an alkyl aryl sulfonate (trade name Nacconol NR) and a substituted benzoid alkyl sulfonic acid (trade name Daxad No. 27) to form aqueous agents.
In these operations, the materials were mixed together in a ball mill to obtain compositions containing varying amounts of one of the toxic compounds, 300 parts by weight of Nacconol NR and 30 parts by weight of Daxad No. 27 contained.
<I> Example 3 </I> An aqueous spray with a content of 25 parts per million of 0,0-diethyl-0-3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyl phosphorothioate was prepared according to the in Example 2 for the Preparation type with the Span 85 procedure.
Further, following the procedures outlined in Example 2, using a ball mill, aqueous spray compositions were prepared containing 12 parts per million of 0,0-diethyl-0,3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl-phosphorothioate, 0-ethyl -0-3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyl-methyl-phosphoramidothioate, 0-isopropyl-0-3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyl-methyl-phosphoramidothioate and 0-propyl-0-3,5-dichloro -2-pyridyl-methylphosphoramidothioate.
The compositions were applied separately to fruits infected with a number of adults of Conotrachelus nenuphar. After 6 days, observations indicated that for each test composition, complete control of the adults of Conotrachelus nenuphar was achieved due to treatment with the compound.
