Process for the continuous production of high polymer polyesters or mixed polyesters
The invention relates to a process for the continuous production of high-polymer polyesters or mixed polyesters from dicarboxylic acid alkyl esters or dicarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols in several reaction stages.
It is known that the continuous production of polyethylene terephthalate takes place in several process stages. In the first stage, the components, such as. B. ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate, fed with catalysts known per se via a metering device into a transesterification column and transesterified to diglycol terephthalate. The monomeric product obtained in this way is continuously introduced via a metering device into the precondensation apparatus as the second stage, in which the precondensation to the low molecular weight precondensation product is carried out with evaporation of the glycol.
The precondensation product is then continuously metered into the third-stage polycondensation apparatus and polycondensed with further evaporation of glycol. The resulting PolyÏthyleneglykolterephthalat z. B. continuously discharged by a pressure screw from the Polycondensation apparatus and for the production of z. B. FÏden, optionally with the interposition of feed pumps, fed to the spinning devices. Other high polymer linear polyesters based on e.g. B. Adipic acid are prepared analogously.
In order to obtain an end product with a constant melt viscosity, the melt viscosity of the polyester after it leaves the polycondensation apparatus is generally determined with the aid of known measuring devices. In the event of deviations from the specified limit value, the metering device controlled by the measuring device of the transesterification con) on and thus the supply! The amount of components in this column is regulated so that while all other reaction parameters, such as pressure and temperature, are kept constant, the melt viscosity is kept constant within the specified limits simply by changing the throughput rate.
As is known, the melt viscosity can also be kept constant by controlling the metering device arranged in front of the polycondensation apparatus by the measuring device and thereby varying the feed quantity of the precondensation product into the polycondensation apparatus.
It is also known that with a constant throughput, the melt viscosity can be varied by regulating the temperature required to carry out the reaction. For this purpose, the temperature controllers assigned to the individual devices are controlled by the Po! Controlled viscosity measuring device located in the condensation apparatus.
It is also known that the melt viscosity of the end product can be kept constant by adding certain amounts of a finely comminuted oligomer and! or polymeric product, which is identical to the main amount, are added to the transesterified product before it is transferred to the precondensation apparatus.
The methods described generally have the disadvantage that the dead time between the loss of the melt viscosity and the setting of the changed throughput rate or the changed temperature until it takes effect may be several hours.
The change in the throughput quantities also has the disadvantage that not only the quantity balance of the continuously operating system, but also the reaction process is severely disturbed. This is especially the case when the control system starts to oscillate when changes occur in quick succession and no longer works exactly.
By changing the throughput quantities, however, the flow of the same quantity of melt to the spinning devices downstream of the reaction system and thus the spinning process itself are also disturbed.
The setting of the melt viscosity by varying the temperature in the individual reaction stages is only possible to a limited extent due to the temperature sensitivity of the material and is particularly critical for the bottom! ycondensation process. While temperatures that are too high cause the polycondensate to degrade, temperatures that are too low lead to freezing of the melt and thus to a standstill of the reaction and the entire system.
The purpose of the invention is to avoid the defects occurring in the known processes for the production of polyesters or mixed polyesters by changing the throughput rates or by regulating the temperature of the individual process stages.
The invention is based on the object of developing a method according to which the polycondensed end product is obtained with a viscosity that remains constant in accordance with the predetermined value without disturbing the balance of quantities of the product flowing through the reaction system.
The process according to the invention for the continuous production of high-polymer polyesters or mixed polyesters from dicarboxylic acid alkyl esters or dicarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols, the following reaction stages being run through: 1) transesterification or.
Esterification,
2) precondensation and
3) Polycondensation with evaporation of at least one component of the reaction mixture, and the melt viscosity of the precondensation product emerging from the precondensation apparatus being measured continuously v. earth. is marked by it. that when the melt viscosity of the precondensation product exceeds a specified limit, a polyhydric alcohol or a solvent that can easily be evaporated under the conditions of the polycoadensation is fed into the precondensation apparatus via a metering device controlled by the measuring device.
It has proven to be expedient to set the degree of precondensation a little higher than it is for the subsequent poly-condensation process, in which the remainder of the polyvalent; en alcohol is split off, is required.
The advantage of the process according to the invention is that the precondensation product is in a constant amount and due to the weight fa! idle time of the control loop with constant viscosity in the bottom! y-condensation apparatus is fed. The inexpedient regulation of the throughput quantity is eliminated, so that a constant quantity of the same product flow is also fed to the downstream spinning devices.
Another vortex! is that not only the polycondensation, but also the transesterification and the precondensation conditions under the optimal conditions once determined for the individual process stages, such as throughput. Temperature and pressure, can be made. A continuous control of the temperature as a function of the melt viscosity is therefore not necessary, so that there is no need to arrange expensive temperature control devices with automatically variable setpoints.
The invention is illustrated by the examples below.
example 1
A solution of dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol is fed into a column in constant quantities via a metering device and is unesterified. The monomeric product obtained in this way is continuously transferred via a metering device into a precondensation apparatus in which the precondensation is carried out up to a melt viscosity set higher than that for the polycondensation process, which has a solution viscosity of about o rel. = 1.18 is made.
The melt viscosity is measured before or during the metering of the low molecular weight precondensation product into the subsequent polycondensation apparatus with a measuring device known per se, which is set to the desired value of o rel = 1.12 desired at the beginning of the polycondensation process. The signal emitted when the setpoint is exceeded controls a metering device through which ethylene glycol, preheated to approx. 100 C, is introduced from a storage container into the lower part of the precondensation apparatus, which is designed as a sump, until the precondensation product emerging from this apparatus corresponds to the specified setpoint.
The small excess of glycol is distilled off in the polycondensation apparatus.
The polyethylene terephthalate obtained after the polycondensation is fed directly to the downstream spinning devices for the production of threads by appropriate conveying devices.
Example 2 Adipic acid diethyiester and glycerin are transesterified and precondensed according to Example I. The previously set degree of precondensation is measured during the transfer into the polycondensation apparatus and, if the specified target value is exceeded, adjusted to the viscosity required for the polycondensation by adding preheated glycerol according to Example 1.
Example 3
Terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol are continuously esterified, precondensed and poly-condensed according to Example I. If the viscosity of the precondensation product is too high, dipheny preheated to approx. 120 ° C! a) s indifferent solvent according to Example 1 is metered in until the viscosity corresponds to the specified target value required for the subsequent polycondensation.
Example 4
A mixture of dimethyl terephthalate and dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate dissolved in ethylene glycol is transesterified according to Example 1 and precondensed.
The higher degree of precondensation is measured during the transfer into the polycondensation apparatus and, if the specified setpoint is exceeded, adjusted to the viscosity required for the polycondensation by metering in preheated ethylene glycol according to Example 1.
