Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Air humidification device The invention relates to an air humidification device which works according to the evaporator principle and has an electrical heating element which evaporates water from a storage container. Such devices are known. They are used to humidify the air in living and working spaces that has become too dry due to central heating or radiant heating. The problem with such devices is how to keep the level of the water constant in a relatively small evaporation chamber so that the efficiency is as high as possible. If the level is too low, so that a large part of the heating element protrudes from the water, there is a risk that the element will overheat locally and become defective.

On the other hand, if the level is too high, the water evaporates more quickly and the degree of water efficiency drops. In known devices, this problem is solved by means of discharge devices, which are closed by the rising level, by means of valves or in other more or less complicated ways. In addition, with these known solutions, the level in the evaporation chamber must first drop a little before refilling takes place again.

The invention offers a surprisingly simple solution to this problem, which is characterized in that the heating element is mounted in an evaporation chamber that is closed on all sides except for a water inlet opening located in the lower area and a steam outlet opening located in the upper area. which is connected to at least one float that holds it in relation to the water surface in such a way that the water level in the evaporation chamber always remains at the same level, which is favorable for evaporation, regardless of how much water has already evaporated, as long as the evaporation chamber floats on the water of the storage container .

Since with this inventive solution there is the risk that too much heat from the newly pierced water present in the evaporation chamber will be released into the cool water in the storage container, it is advantageous if the evaporation chamber has a thermal insulation layer that matches that in the evaporation chamber Boiling water isolated from the cool water in the container.

Some exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in simplified form in the drawing: FIG. 1 shows a device in section along the line I-I in FIG. 2; 2 shows the same device in a view from above, with a partial step of the swimmer; 3 shows another device in section; 4 shows a third device in section; 5 shows a further variant of a device in a section along the line V-V in FIG. 6: FIG. 6 shows the device according to FIG. 5 in a view from above; FIG. 7 shows a detail in a larger scale.

FIGS. 1 and 2 show a very simple device which externally has the shape of a float floating in a water tank. The device comprises a storage container 1 which contains the water W to be evaporated. A float 3 connected to an arm 4 floats on the water. The arm itself is connected to a transverse axis 5, which is mounted in the side walls of the container at 6, so that the swimmer can raise and lower the level of the water but not tilt. The arm 4 is formed as a tube and the power supply cable 7 for the Heizelerment of the evaporator is passed through the tube into the float. The float 3 comprises two parts, a float body 8 which provides buoyancy and an evaporator chamber 9 firmly connected to the float body.

The floating body and the evaporation chamber have a common cylindrical outer wall 10, but are separated from one another by a partition 11. The evaporation chamber is double-walled. The cavity between the outer and inner wall 12 forms a thermal insulation. At door% vaad 11 there is an electrical circuit 1 to 3

solidifies. This is a so-called heating rod, in which the heating coil is arranged in a fully insulated manner from the outer jacket of the rod. The cable 7 is connected to the element 13.

The double wall of the evaporation chamber is provided with a water inlet opening 14 at the bottom and a steam exhaust opening 15 at the top. Both openings are designed in such a way that the cavity between the outer and inner walls of the evaporation chamber is still hermetically sealed. No water or steam should be able to penetrate into this cavity.

In operation, the float 3 swims on the water W, being about halfway immersed in the water. Float 8 provides buoyancy, the evaporation chamber forms the ballast. The evaporation chamber is namely filled with water through the opening 14. (The additional buoyancy through the cavity of the double wall is only slight) The water present in the evaporator chamber is brought to boil and evaporate by the heating element 13, the steam escapes through the opening 15 and humidifies the air. Since the buoyancy of the float is always the same, the evaporation chamber is always immersed to the same depth and the level in the evaporation chamber always remains constant, so that the heating element can always work under the most favorable conditions.

The steam is indicated by the arrows and the cloud D.

You can also provide the device with a protection against dry boiling, so that the heating element is not destroyed in such a case. Such a device can be a thermal interrupter which is mounted in a thermally conductive connection with the intermediate wall 11 and which opens its contacts in the event of overheating.

3 shows another air humidifier in which the evaporation chamber 20 is kept floating on the water by two cylindrical float bodies 21. The chamber 20 contains a heating element 22 to which power is supplied by a flexible cable 23. The chamber contains a water inlet opening 24 in the bottom and a steam outlet opening 25 in the upper part. In contrast to the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. in which the evaporation chamber pivots about axis 5 when the level in the storage container drops. The evaporation chamber always remains in a horizontal position thanks to the two floats. The device is shown more or less schematically. there is no thermal insulation of the evaporation chamber and protection against dry boiling.

The water present in the storage tank is designated by W, and the emerging steam by D.

4 shows schematically an air humidifier in which the floating body has a type of boat shape in which the evaporation chamber forms the central part. Figs. 5 to 7 show the embodiment of such a device. Corresponding parts are therefore indicated in FIGS. 4 to 7 with the same reference numbers. In these figures, an air humidifier is shown, the main parts of which are a water storage container 30 with a floating body 31 floating therein and an evaporation chamber 32. An electrical heating element 33 is located in the evaporation chamber. The storage container has a widened edge 34, on which the power supply cable 35 is held by means of a clamp 36, so that the cable forms a flexible loop and the floating body can be lifted or unhindered according to the level in the container can lower.

The float is connected to the evaporation chamber. They comprise a first part 37 which forms the wall of the evaporation chamber and the wall and bottom of the floating body. A second or cover part 38 covers both the floating body and the evaporation chamber from above. A removable bottom 39 covers the evaporation chamber from below. The parts 37 and 38 are made of plastic. The bottom 39 is double-walled for the purpose of thermal insulation. It comprises a plastic part 40 and a sheet metal part 41. At the edge, these parts are sealed against each other and against part 37 by means of a rubber profile strip 42. In the middle of the floor there is a water inlet opening which is designed as a hollow screw 43 and which at the same time holds the parts 40, 41, 42 together.

The cover 39 is connected to the evaporation chamber in an easily removable manner by means of wing nuts 44 arranged on the side.

The heating element is therefore easily accessible for possible cleaning or to remove limescale deposits. The heating element is screwed into the wall 37 of the evaporation chamber by means of the nut 45. A thermal interrupter 47 is arranged on a metal strip 46 which is clamped under the nut 45. The metal strip 46 produces a thermally conductive connection to the heating element 33, so that the breaker opens its contacts if the element heats up too much due to dry boiling. A reset button 48 allows the contacts of the breaker to be closed again. The parts 37, 38 are dimensioned so that almost the entire water surface is covered.

So that water can be refilled into the storage container during operation, a filling opening 49 is left open.
