Abstract

Stretching in width of a fabric comprising thermoplastic yarns is carried out in a stenter adjacent to the heat treatment chamber. This allows the still warm material to be stretched without additional thermal processing. The stenter may form part of the heating chamber or be arranged as a separate section of the machine.

Description

Fig. 2 eine Heissbehandlungsmaschine mit einem Palmer, und

Process for heat-setting textile webs consisting at least partially of thermoplastic fibers
This invention relates to a method for heat-setting textile webs consisting at least partially of thermoplastic fibers, which is characterized in that the textile web, which is heat-set with unconstrained guidance of the goods, is stretched to remove cracks in width that have occurred during setting while the fibers are still in a plastic state from the heat setting without additional heating and then let it cool down.

The invention is based on the fact that a large number of textile webs require both heat setting and spreading. In the previous methods, the material web was first heat-set in one machine and then stretched in another machine while heating it again. This expensive and complicated procedure is intended to be simplified according to the invention.

The teaching according to the invention basically consists in the fact that a textile web to be fixed in a hot state in the still plastic state from the heat fixation - without the addition of new heat - is stretched widely and then allowed to cool.

According to the invention, the textile web is not made plastic during the hot treatment in order to be able to subsequently stretch it, but rather it is made plastic in order to fix it. During stretching, the fact that the textile web is already plastic is only used if a stretching apparatus is used which is arranged immediately after the heat treatment device.

In the English patent specification No. 713 367 it is described that a textile web can be stretched with the addition of heat. However, the invention is intended to make such a complex procedure superfluous. The English patent gives no indication that a textile web, which has already been plasticized in a previous process stage, is fed to the spreading stage in a still plastic state.

The American patent specification No. 3,021,607 describes the combination of a drying machine and a tentering machine. The textile web is then first dried and then either stretched with further drying or stretched and then dried again. The teaching of using the amount of heat supplied in a preceding process stage for the subsequent spreading of a thermoplastic material web cannot be taken from the American patent. Rather, the American patent is about superimposing drying and stretching so that the machines in question have the smallest possible spatial expansion.

The paragraph about thermosoling on page 2142 of the handbook Internationales Lexikon Textilveredelung und Grenzgebiet von Fischer-Bobsien concerns several possible hot treatment processes, including the thermosetting of dyes in the fiber. Of the three embodiments mentioned (stenter frame, hot flue and hot roll), only the treatment on the hot flue as a hot treatment method in the sense of the method according to the invention comes into consideration, because it takes place with unconstrained goods guidance. As a result of the double (mechanical and thermal) constraints, the stenter frame and hotroll do not allow any dimensional changes in the web from the outset.

The short section of the manual says nothing about the edge waviness produced during the hot flue process and the necessity of the subsequent spreading.

It has just as little reference to the idea of the invention as the section on thermosoling on pages 375 and 128 of the book The Practice of Bleaching and Dyeing Textiles by Bernard, the content of which largely coincides with the explanations in the lexicon mentioned above.

The fine structure of the fibers is characterized by the fact that the ordered crystalline areas are obscured by less regularly arranged, intertwined molecules either directly or in the interfaces of superstructures. As a result of the temperature movement of the molecular assemblies, characteristic rearrangements occur in the fine structure, depending on the level of temperature and the time of the temperature effect, which lead to energetically more favorable basic structures without practically changing the external shape of the fibers.

The time factor plays an even greater role, since the natural tendency of the molecules to form energetically more favorable groupings and to occupy layers is not only hindered by their bulky structure, but also by the enormous internal friction of high polymers below the melting range. These considerations apply to all processes that are carried out under the influence of heat, including spreading.

So far, spreading has been done by stretching the textile web, applying a thermal shock and subsequent abrupt cooling (quenching). The alignment of the molecules takes place firstly under mechanical constraint, and secondly they were only available for a short time. The twofold violence of the process (mechanical and thermal) encouraged the generation or maintenance of thermal, mechanical and stress inhomogeneities. Above all, the ordering processes of the molecular assemblies were terminated prematurely, resulting in imperfect microtextures.

The inventive concept of the method described is that on the flat branch of the cooling curve from a previous hot treatment serving other purposes, it is stretched broadly, spatially and temporally in an area in which the plastic fibers are still plastic. The invention is based on the knowledge that not only - because of the elimination of the forced cooling devices after the hot treatment and the reheating devices before spreading - devices, space, time and costs are saved, but that at the same time a better textile quality can be achieved because the Being able to orientate molecular assemblies freely on the flat branch of the cooling curve.

This primarily results in greater thermal homogeneity, greater stress homogeneity and, above all, better micro-texture. Secondly, this results in higher tensile strength, better shape retention (even after repeated washing and after partial loss of the finish), lower tendency to crease, a more favorable length / cross ratio, etc.

Added to this are the savings in thermal energy, in resources for forced cooling after the hot treatment, in resources for reheating before spreading, and in space and time.

A device that can be used according to the invention is characterized, inter alia, in that the spreading device f, i is arranged entirely or partially on the outlet side in a hot treatment chamber g, which contains a hot treatment system e.

One advantage of this device is that solidification of the material to be treated between the end of the hot treatment and the start of spreading is avoided. Thus, the heat absorbed by the material during the hot treatment can still be used for spreading, so that the previously customary forced cooling after the hot treatment and the renewed supply of heat before spreading are unnecessary.

With this type of treatment, the freedom of movement of the molecular assembly of the material to be treated is advantageously fully utilized both in terms of time and temperature.

In the following, usable devices are explained in more detail with reference to drawings. It shows:
1 shows a hot treatment machine with a spreader field arranged vertically at the end,
2 shows a hot treatment machine with a Palmer, and
3 shows a machine similar to FIG. 2, but with the Palmer partially protruding from the heat treatment machine.

The textile web to be treated a can, for. B. are first soaked in a foulard b with a treatment liquor. According to FIG. 1, it then passes through a pre-dryer d equipped with infrared radiators c and finally a hot treatment chamber g. Within this chamber g it is subjected to a heat treatment with a hot flue e to fix it and then brought to the desired finished size in the still thermoplastic state on the spreading field f.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the pre-dryer, in which the textile web a runs through a nozzle field h, is arranged in the interior of a Heisshehandlungskammer g angel.

Within this chamber g, the spreading is carried out by the Palmer i; These are two wheel rims that can be adjusted at an oblique angle to the movement of the goods, on which the edges of the textile web are stretched by needles or other holding devices.

The spreading device f, i can be designed in any way. The spreading field can, for. B.

be arranged obliquely or horizontally and, if necessary, partially protrude from the heat treatment chamber g. The latter is shown in FIG. 3, which is otherwise similar to FIG. Spreading can also take place by one or more rollers with obliquely arranged needle rings or by other retaining means that can be axially adjusted in a controllable manner. These would be z. B. also clamping devices using balls that act similar to the bicycle coaster brake, suitable.

Since the textile web only remains thermoplastic for a short time after it has left the heat treatment apparatus, the spreader device f, i can be relatively short as seen in the direction of movement of the goods. It is essential that the freedom of movement of the Mole kül association of the material to be treated is fully utilized both in terms of time and temperature before the textile web is quenched and solidified in the usual way.

Since the method for heat setting of textile webs also for the fixation of equipment such. B.

In such cases, the device for spreading can be arranged so that the spreading of the item overlaps with the diffusion process of such finishing agents.
