**WARNUNG** Ende DESC Feld konnte Anfang CLMS uberlappen**.
The invention according to the main Swiss patent No. 536.341 relates to a process for the production of colored moldings from high-polymer, fully synthetic synthetic resins, which consists in using water-insoluble, hydrophobic, high-polymer, fully synthetic synthetic resins in solid form, in particular as chips or flakes, in a mixture of hydrophilic and organophilic solvents, which only partially dissolve each other and form a two-phase system, treated with dyes or optical brighteners whose solubility in the organophilic part of the two-phase system is greater than in the hydrophilic part, removes the solvents, dries the synthetic resin and, if necessary with the addition of untreated high-polymer, fully synthetic resin molded from the melt or from a solvent.
It has now been found that synthetic
Synthetic resins from the group of acetyl and ethyl derivatives of cellulose, polyethylene, rosin esters, polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, polyvinyl and polyvinylidene chlorides, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacetals, in particular polyvinyl acetals, water-insoluble salts such as ionomeric synthetic resins , which arise in the production in the form of powders or flakes, can also be implemented with a large selection of the different classes of dyes in high fastness properties and in a very short time in practically quantitative yield, if these synthetic resins in a mixture of solvents that dissolve into each other to a limited extent and form a two-phase system,
reacted with at least one dye or optical brightener and, if necessary, shaped after removal of the solvent.
Because instead of plastic chips, respectively. -granulates preferably only uses synthetic plastic powder, the process can be used primarily for the production of solid dye and pigment preparations. On the one hand, because of the much larger surface area of powder compared to granules, much larger amounts of solvent, around 10 to 100 times higher, are necessary and, in addition, many larger amounts of dye are reacted with the plastic, because high-percentage preparations are economically necessary for processing powder , so-called masterbatches to produce, optionally mixed with untreated synthetic resin powder, granules, solutions or melts to z. B. to deform fibers, foils, tapes, films and coatings.
Since the hydrophilic solvent is preferably water or
an aqueous solution, e.g. of a salt, is a particularly important embodiment of the process according to the invention is that the synthetic synthetic resins in solid form, as flakes or powder, with water-insoluble, in water-insoluble, in water-soluble organic solvents or finely divided dyes or optical brighteners, and enough water to form a two-phase system with water as the predominant phase in terms of quantity, mixed until the organic phase is evenly distributed on the surface of the synthetic resin, organic solvents and water are removed, the synthetic resin dries and, if necessary, with the addition of untreated synthetic resin deformed from the melt or from a solution.
The essence of the process is the clear formation of the two-phase system.
The organic solvent should form a well-adhering film containing as much of the dye as possible on the surface of the synthetic resin particles as defined, from where, thanks to the high concentration gradient and thanks to the easy and gentle removability of the solvent, the dye is in a compact and well-adhering layer on the Surface of the synthetic resin can stick.
To promote the homogeneity of the deposited dye layer, it is important that the dye is present as finely divided as possible in the organic phase. The real or colloidal solution is ideal but cannot be realized in all cases.
Fine division of the dyes can be done by mechanical methods, such as. B. Solvent grinding can be achieved using sand or glass ball mills. It is also advantageous in many cases to bring the dye into a fine distribution by dissolving or reprecipitating it before transferring it to the solvent, e.g. B. by reprecipitation from a concentrated acid solution, such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, glacial acetic acid, chloroacetic acid, by discharging into water.
In the case of vat and disperse dyes, for which it is particularly advantageous to promote fine division by prior reprecipitation, isolation of the finely divided dyestuff is often not necessary. The more colloidal the dye, the more difficult it is. Instead, the precipitation can be carried out in the presence of the solvent, which is preferably done with intensive stirring and / or sonication with ultrasound, and then the synthetic resin powder is repeated.
Stir in the flakes. The further work-up remains the same after decanting the dilute acid.
If the dye is precipitated from an acid, the synthetic resin can also be added to the acid solution beforehand; When the acid solution is introduced into the solvent mixture, the dye and synthetic resin are very finely divided. But you can also stir the synthetic resin into the two-phase system and then add the dye solution. For a
Reprecipitation in an alkaline medium are preferably the limited water-soluble ketones, such as cyclohexanone and mesityl oxide, with strong alkalis, such as e.g. methyl alcoholic potassium hydroxide solution, since the dyes are most soluble in these.
The water-insoluble dyes are the disperse dyes, the vat dyes and the pigments and also dye lakes. They can belong to a wide variety of constitutional classes.
The method according to the invention can be applied in the same way to water-insoluble optical brighteners and to fillers. Mixtures of dyes, optical brighteners, etc. can also be used.
The disperse dyes are, for example, the azo and azomethines, the stilbene derivatives, the nitro dyes, the naphthoquinone and anthraquinone dyes and the heterocycles such as thiazole anthrones, quinophthalones, anthrapyrimidines, naphthalimides, pyrazole anthrones, diazines, acridonecridines and the 1: 1 and acridonecridines. Metal complex dyes, for example from azo and formazyl dyes, the Al, Ni,
Cu, Fe, Co and Cr included as complex-forming metals.
Among the vat dyes, the simple acylated anthraquinone derivatives deserve special mention. Furthermore, cyanuric chloride derivatives, carbazoles, acridones and polycyclic rings, such as acedianthrone, dibenzanthrone, perinone, perylene, also naphthimidazoles, dipyrazole anthronyls and indigoid dyes such as indirubin, indigo, thioindigo derivatives, in particular also esters of the type 009 described in French vat 309 acids are. Vat dyes can also be used in the form of the free vat acid.
Pigments suitable for the process according to the invention are: inorganic, such as. B. carbon black or matting agents such as titanium dioxide, but especially organic pigments, e.g. B. those from the class of azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, nitro, perinone, perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide, dioxazine, thioindigo, diisoindolinone or china cridon dyes, also metal complex dyes with pigment character and optical brighteners with pigment character.
Solvents which have limited water solubility and which form the organophilic or organic phase include: aldehydes such as benzaldehyde and furfural, esters such as acetoacetic ester, amyl acetate, dimethyl phthalate, acetols, but especially alcohols such as butanol, 1-pentanol, 2-pentanol, n-hexanol, n-octanol, benzyl alcohol, phenetol, hexylglycol, phenylglycol, cyclohexanol and ketones such as methylpropyl, methyl isoamyl, methyl n-amyl, ethylbutyl and diisobutyl ketone, also mesityl oxide, isophorone, acetophorone , Acetal, benzonitrile, n-hexylamine, acrylonitrile, ethylene chloride, propylene carbonate, isopropyl acetate, hexylcellosolve, phenylcellosolve, acetylacetone, but especially cyclohexanone and methylcyclohexanone. Mixtures of different solvents can also be used.
Solvents which are not toxic and do not have a strong smell and which can be easily and completely removed, such as butanol, cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl glycol acetate, are particularly advantageous.
Limited water solubility is to be understood as meaning at least 0.1%, i.e. H. at room temperature, one gram of solvent should dissolve in one liter of water.
The limited degree of water solubility has an important function. Together with the water as the conversion medium, it allows the quality of the film produced on the synthetic resin powder, respectively. - regulate flake. The water not only acts as a carrier and transmission medium, but also as a buffer. It also allows the film thickness to be regulated and the excess solvent to be removed by diluting with water.
As already mentioned, the aqueous phase can contain substances in dissolved form, e.g. Acids, bases or neutral electrolytes, such as Salts, provided they do not adversely affect the formation of the two-phase system. In some cases, such additives can lower the solubility of the organophilic phase in water.
The amount of solvent that is required to form the organic phase depends on the one hand on the total surface area of the synthetic resin, on the other hand it is also dependent on the constitution of the dye and its type of distribution.
If a solvent content of 5 to 10% is used for granulates according to the main Swiss patent 536 341, powders require around 500 to 1000%, based on the weight of the plastic. For example, 100 parts of polyethylene powder are stirred into a mixture of 100 parts of dye in 1000 parts of solvent and 5000 to 9000 parts of water. This results in a preparation with a dye content of 50%, which has to be couped in a ratio of 1:50 during processing in order to give a 1% coloration. The preparations contain 10 to 95% dye, preferably 50 to 75%.
The ratio of dye to solvent remains, which is very important, in the same order of magnitude as in the conversion of granules, i. H. a 10 to 30% solution, respectively. fine dispersion can be taken as an average guide value. The conditions regarding the fine distribution of the dye remain the same.
The solutions or suspensions of the dyes in the solvent can be various other, e.g. B. the finishing additives for the plastics are added, provided that they are compatible with the substrate to be colored, do not affect the two-phase system and do not change the deformation properties of the granules, for example by reducing the melt viscosity.
The order in which the individual components are combined that are required for the process is largely irrelevant, given certain points.
You can distribute the dye in the solvent, add to the water and then the plastic powder, respectively. - Enter flake or add it beforehand, but you can also mix the dye distributed in the solvent with the powder and only then add the water. It is important that the dye is finely dispersed in the solvent before it comes into contact with the synthetic resin.
For the work-up of the two-phase, colored systems, the liquid of the organic phase must be removed. This can be done by various methods, for example by simple distillation, by azeotropic distillation or by steam distillation, it being possible to work in each case either under normal pressure or under reduced pressure. The preferred embodiment, however, is to dilute the hydrophilic phase, in which the organophilic phase has only limited solubility, to such an extent that the entire amount of liquid in the organophilic phase is dissolved in the hydrophilic phase. In the case of water or aqueous salt solutions as the hydrophilic phase, the dilution is advantageously carried out with water.
After the organophilic liquid phase has been removed from the hydrophilic, generally aqueous phase, the colored or pigmented plastic particles can easily be separated off by filtration and dried.
In order to ensure the most intimate possible mixing of the synthetic resin with the high amount of dye in the solvent, the treatment must be intensified compared to the granules; this can be done through a longer exposure time and / or through additional mechanical processing, such as intensive stirring or shaking or such as sonication with ultrasound.
In the following examples, unless otherwise specified, parts are parts by weight and percentages
Percentages by weight and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 50 parts of the dye of the formula
EMI2.1
are ground in a solution of 1 part of ethyl cellulose in 100 parts of secondary butanol saturated with water by means of glass beads 1 mm in diameter until the particle size is below 1 micron. The spheres are separated off, 20 parts of water are added, 20 parts of a polyvinyl acetal available in powder form commercially under the name Mowital B30H are stirred in, stirred thoroughly, diluted with more water while stirring, and stirred in the Turmix until it was finely granular , well-filterable form, filtered, washed and dried.
The result is a preparation which can be readily dispersed in a paper printing ink based on ethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose or polyvinyl acetal, has little inherent viscosity and gives clear prints.
If you use sec. Butanol isobutanol, n-butanol, ethyl acetoacetate, ethylglycol acetate, methyl ethyl ketJn, ethyl acetate or nitroethane, the result is similar good preparations.
With the dye of the formula
EMI3.1
the result is a similarly good preparation with orange prints.
If one uses copper phthalocyanine and proceeds as described above, the result is a preparation which gives equally good blue prints.
If, instead of Mowital, a polyvinyl acetal, which is commercially available under the name Rhovinal or Pioloform, is used, similarly good preparations result.
If, instead of 20 parts of Mowital B30H, a mixture of 10 parts of Mowital B30H and 10 parts of ethyl cellulose is used, the result is a similarly good preparation with a somewhat higher viscosity.
Example 2
30 parts of copper phthalocyanine are in 120 parts of cyclohexanone. which has been saturated with water, ground until the particle size is below 1 micron. After separating from the glass spheres, 20 parts of a polyethylene powder are stirred. which is commercially available under the name Mikrothen MU760, stirred while slowly diluting with water until a finely granular, easily filterable form is formed. soaks up, washes and dries. The preparation can. mixed with polyethylene powder, processed into blown films, with 1 '-fgc being added a strong, homodisperse blue coloration. Other polyethylene resins that can also be used are commercially available under the names Coathylen, AF wax and AC polyethylene.
The preparation described above can also be mixed with colorless polyethylene powder in a ratio of 1: 2, melted, extruded and cut into granules. The resulting chips or granules with 20% coloring matter can be mixed with colorless polyethylene granules and shaped into various objects.
If, instead of cyclohexanone, pentoxone, phenylglycol, ethylglycol acetate or ethyl acetoacetate are used. in this way one obtains similarly good preparations.
If, instead of polyethylene powder, one made of polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl acetate or magnesium abietate or a cellulose acetyl ester or a rosin ester is used, preparations of similar quality are obtained.
Example 3
100 parts of 1,4-diamino-2,3-dichloroanthraquinone are in the presence of 1 part of ethyl cellulose in 300 parts of water saturated sec. Butanol ground in a sand mill until the particle size is below 2 microns. The sand is separated off and a mixture of 8 parts of Mowital B30H and 24 parts of a phenolic resin, which is commercially available under the name Alresen, is stirred in, stirred well, diluted with water to 2000 parts, passed through a perforated disk mill, filtered, washes and dries the preparation obtained.
The preparation can be easily dispersed in an alcoholic printing ink based on ethyl cellulose and printed on paper. Using the transfer printing process, it delivers real purple tones on polyester fibers.
Use 33 parts of Mowital B20H instead of the above resin mixture and proceed as described above.
the result is a similarly good preparation with a slightly higher viscosity.
Similar good blue preparations result with the dyes 1,4-di-N-methylamino-anthraquinone and 1-amino-2cyano-4-phenylamino-anthraquinone. With 1-amino-2-phenoxy-4-oxy-anthraquinone, a good red preparation results.
If, instead of the above resin mixture, 5 parts of ethyl cellulose or 5 parts of ethyl cellulose and 25 parts of Alresen PA 120 are used, preparations are obtained which are somewhat less easy to disperse in a printing ink, but which also have little inherent viscosity.
Example 4
20 parts of the manganese complex of the azo dye composed of 2,4,5-chlorotoluidinesulfonic acid and betaoxynaphthoic acid are ground in 80 parts of water with the addition of 0.5 part of the condensation product of naphthalenesulfonic acid and formaldehyde in a glass ball mill. It is separated from the balls, 40 parts of a 1-rise solution of ethyl cellulose are added to the dispersion in sec. Butanol, stirs in 15 parts of polyvinyl acetal in powder form, homogenized by vigorous stirring with a toothed disk stirrer, diluted with less stirring with water until a granular, easily filterable form is formed, filtered. washes and dries.
The product disperses well in organic printing inks and can be printed on paper and other substrates.
A similarly good green preparation is obtained with the iron complex of alphanitroso-betanaphthol.
