Als Beispiele solcher Lösungsmittel seien genannt: 3-Pentanol, 2-Methyl-heptan, 3,4-Dimethylhe- xan, Isovaleriansäuremethylester, n-Butanol, Cycloheptan, 4-Methylheptan, sek-Butyl-methylketon, 3-Athylhexan, Methylisobutylketon, 3-Acetyl-3-methylpentan, Amyläthyläther, 2-Pentanol, 4-Penten-2-ol-2-methyl, 2,3-Dimethylbutanol, sek.- Butyläther, 1,3-Dimethylcyclohexan, 3,3-Dimethylbutanol, 3-Penten-2-on, Propionsäure-propylester, 3-Methylheptan, Isobutyläther, 3-Methylpentanol, Octylen, Ameisensäureisoamylester, 2--i-Dimethylpentanon-3, 3-Hexanon, n-Octan, Butyl-methylketon, 2-Methyl-pentanol-3, 2-Methyl-butanol- 1, Triäthylphosphat, 5-Hexen-2-on, n-Hexanol, Cyclohexanon.

in Betracht.

The production of chromium complexes from metallizable dyes according to the processes customary up to now brings with it problems from the point of view of wastewater purification, the solution of which requires considerable effort. The following points in particular are unsatisfactory about the conventional chromating processes: Use of a sometimes considerable excess of chromium - Use of complexing agents such as salicylic acid for chromating in an alkaline environment, - Use of large amounts of common salt in isolating the complexes.
A special disadvantage is that the chromium complexes obtained and isolated by known processes always contain larger or smaller amounts of inorganic salts. This is particularly a hindrance in the production of liquid, concentrated dye preparations, since the salt reduces the solubility. A process has now been found which allows the production of chromium complexes from metallizable dyes, such as. B. Azomethine and azo dyes with the stoichiometric amount of chromium salts, or only a small excess of the same without wastewater and in the form of concentrated, low-salt or practically salt-free solutions, which can be used directly as dye preparations or converted into practically salt-free dye powder by evaporation.
Of course, the process will preferably be carried out with exactly the stoichiometric amount of chromium (III) compounds, but an excess of z. B. 10% generally does not adversely affect the course of the reaction.
The invention thus relates to a process for the production of chromium complexes from metallizable dyes in the form of low-salt, concentrated solutions, characterized in that a metallizable dye is reacted in a water immiscible or poorly miscible solvent with an at least stoichiometric amount of a chromium (III) compound Any water released is distilled off azeotropically and the solution of the 1: 1 or 1: 2 chromium complex or its salts is separated from inorganic salts by filtration
With this process, the 1: 1 chromium complexes are always obtained first when working in acidic solution.
As the acid, the dye used can function itself if it has acidic groups, e.g. B. sulfo groups, but the acid can also be replaced by the chromium (III) salt used, e.g. B. CrCl3 6H20 are supplied or the reaction mixture is an acid z. B. hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, acetic acid or formic acid
The 1: 1 chromium complex obtained, present in concentrated solution, can, for. B. - preferably after neutralization - isolated by evaporation or reacted further without intermediate isolation.
For example, after the solution has been made basic, it can be reacted with another mole of the same or a different complex-forming dye or with a colorless, complex-forming compound, such as salicylic acid, 1,2-dihydroxybenzene, 8-hydroxyquinoline, oxalic acid, 2- Hydroxyethylamine, etc. The base is used, for. B. an alkali or alkaline earth carbonate, hydrogen carbonate, acetate or hydroxide, in some cases also ammonia. Furthermore, the solutions of chromium complex salts obtained according to the process can be used without intermediate isolation for the production of ammonium salts suitable as solvent dyes (alcohol-soluble color salts).
Here, the chromium complex, which is in the form of its Na salt, for example, is converted into an ammonium salt by adding a suitable amine. B. guanidine, dicyclohexylamine, the aminoalkyl-polyalkylpolyhydrophenanthrenes, especially the compounds mentioned in British Patent No. 1120489 or the compounds of the formula described in Belgian Patent No. 787 351
EMI1.1
where R, R1 and R2 are alkyl radicals with a total of 10 to 24 carbon atoms.
Since the dye solutions obtained by the process according to the invention are low in water or practically anhydrous, any inorganic salts formed during the reaction can be separated off by filtration. The practically salt-free solutions of 1: 1 or 1: 2 chromium complexes obtained in this way are used directly as dye preparations or are slightly evaporated to give more concentrated solutions or are subjected to drying (spray drying or paddle dryer).
Suitable solvents for the chromation according to the invention are above all those whose boiling point is between 80 and 180 "C and preferably between 110 and 140" C, so that on the one hand the chromation can be carried out at the required temperature and if possible without pressure equipment and on the other hand the dye can be freed from the solvent again. Such solvents are e.g. B. monohydric alcohols with 4 to 6 carbon atoms, hydrocarbons with 7 to 10 carbon atoms, aliphatic ketones, alkyl esters of alkanoic acids with up to 5 carbon atoms, aliphatic ethers with 6 to 10 carbon atoms.
Examples of such solvents include: 3-pentanol, 2-methyl-heptane, 3,4-dimethylhexane, methyl isovalerate, n-butanol, cycloheptane, 4-methylheptane, sec-butyl-methyl ketone, 3-ethylhexane, methyl isobutyl ketone, 3 -Acetyl-3-methylpentane, amylethyl ether, 2-pentanol, 4-penten-2-ol-2-methyl, 2,3-dimethylbutanol, sec-butyl ether, 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane, 3,3-dimethylbutanol, 3- Penten-2-one, propionic acid propyl ester, 3-methylheptane, isobutyl ether, 3-methylpentanol, octylene, isoamyl formate, 2-i-dimethylpentanone-3, 3-hexanone, n-octane, butyl methyl ketone, 2-methylpentanol -3, 2-methyl-butanol-1, triethyl phosphate, 5-hexen-2-one, n-hexanol, cyclohexanone.
The chromizing takes place with the usual chromium compounds and at the usual temperatures and pH conditions. Salts or complexes of trivalent chromium are therefore suitable; however, chromium (III> chloride or fluoride and chromium (1II) oxide hydrate in the presence of hydrochloric or hydrofluoric acid are particularly advantageous.
As azo dyes such. B. the known o, o'-dihydroxy, o-hydroxy-o'-amino, o-carboxy-o'-hydroxy or o-carboxy-o'-aminoazo dyes in question, which can also be used by the usual methods for Production of chromium complexes can be used. Instead of an ortho hydroxy group, the azo dyes can also contain a methoxy group. You can sulfo; Wear sulfonamido or sulfone groups and, moreover, be substituted with the nonionic substituents customary in azo dyes, e.g. B. with fluorine, chlorine, vitro; low molecular weight alkyl or alkoxy groups, aryl; in particular phenyl and phenyl radicals substituted with chlorine, sulfo groups or low molecular weight alkyl, low molecular weight alkanoylamino, alkoxycarbonylamino or benzoylamino radicals and with carbalkoxy or cyano groups.
Low molecular weight here refers to residues with 1 to 4 carbon atoms

Chromium complexes of azo dyes, for the production of which the process according to the invention is suitable, are also described in DAS No. 1 008 254 and English Patents No. 981 349, 1 001 717, 986 655, 1 001 840, 1 040 557, 964 800

into consideration. Here Ar and Ar2 each denote an aromatic ring, in particular a benzene or naphthalene ring, X1 and X2 are preferably OH groups, X, however, can also be a carboxy or a low molecular weight alkylsulfonamido or arylsulfonamido group. Aryl here means above all a residue of the benzene series.
Azomethine dyes from which chromium complexes can be prepared by the process according to the invention are, for. B. in French patents No. 1 203 570 and 1 098 839 and the Swiss patent No. 331 856.
Furthermore, chromium complexes of triazole dyes can also be produced by the process according to the invention, e.g. B. the compounds described in DOS No. 1 964 148. The process is also suitable for the chromating of dyes which contain a salicyl group, such as azo dyes, in which salicylic acid is present as a coupling component, or triphenylmethane dyes. The tricyclic chromium complexes described in DAS No. 1 061 922 can also be produced using the new process. The new process is characterized by the fact that it enables the production of 1: 1 or 1.2 chromium complexes without having to accept wastewater pollution. The solvents used can be regenerated and reused, and there is generally no need for excess chromium-supplying compounds.
Another advantage is that the dyes can be isolated without the use of salt and that the inorganic salts formed during production can be separated off in a simple manner, namely by filtration, thanks to the practically anhydrous procedure. The practically salt-free dyes obtained are distinguished by a surprisingly high solubility which, for. B. that of the conventionally prepared products in the presence of water. The dyes according to the invention are therefore particularly suitable for the production of concentrated solutions without the solubility having to be increased by means of coupages (for example dextrin).
In the examples below, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.

are dissolved in 400 parts of methyl isobutyl ketone. After adding 26.65 parts of CrCl3 6H2O, the mixture is stirred at 105-117 for 1 to 2 hours, the water formed being separated off azeotropically. The dye solution is now calc with 30 parts. Soda and 40.65 parts of the same monoazo dye are added and the mixture is stirred for a further 1 to 2 hours at 110-117. When the reaction has ended, the reaction mixture is clarified by filtration and the dye solution is evaporated.
A red-yellow powder is obtained which dissolves extremely well in water with an orange color and dyes wool from a weakly acidic bath in orange shades that are very wet or lightfast
If, after the reaction is complete, 1 equivalent of rosinamine D, dissolved in methyl isobutyl ketone, is added, the mixture is made weakly acidic with hydrochloric acid, the precipitated common salt is filtered off and the filtrate is evaporated, an orange lacquer dye of valuable color is obtained.
Example 5
33.9 parts of the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI3.4
are calc in a mixture of 250 parts by volume of n-hexanol, 30 parts. Soda and 13.3 parts of CrCl3 - 6H2O are heated to boiling, the resulting water being distilled off azeotropically. When the chromation has ended (1: 2 chromium complex), the reaction mixture is clarified by filtration and the filtrate is evaporated. A dark red powder is obtained which is applied as a finely ground preparation containing a dispersant. It gives nylon a dark red color with good fastness properties.
Example 6
39.4 parts of the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI3.5
are chromed according to Example 2, the water being separated off azeotropically. After adding 39.8 parts of the disazo dye of the formula
EMI4.1
and 30 parts of calc. Soda, the reaction mixture is stirred for 1 to 2 hours at 105-110. After the addition reaction and clear filtration to remove inorganic salts have ended, the reaction product is isolated by evaporation. This gives a black powder which dissolves in water with a gray-black color and dyes wool, nylon and leather in very genuine, flowery black tones.
