Description
La présente invention concerne, d'une manière générale, les dispositifs de protection de l'ouïe à tampons auriculaires, et plus particulièrement à tampons auriculaires en mousse thermoplastique plastifiée.
Les tampons auriculaires en mousse thermoplastique plastifiée sont connus et sont notamment décrits dans le brevet britannique N° 733542 de Gustav Hultgren, et dans le brevet des EUA (Reissue) N° 29487 de Gardner Jr.G. Hultgren propose des tampons auriculaires en une matière spongieuse souple, de préférence en un polymère ou un copolymère de chlorure de vinyle plastifié. Les effets d'absorption sonore de ces tampons dépendent de leur densité et de la taille des pores de la mousse. Dans le brevet Gardner Jr, les tampons auriculaires sont en une mousse souple de polymère plastifié, par exemple de chlorure de polyvinyle ou de polyuréthanne. Cette mousse est additionnée d'une proportion suffisante de plastifiant organique pour avoir certaines propriétés de récupération et d'équilibre de pression qui permet de comprimer le tampon pour faciliter sa mise en place dans le conduit auditif où il tend à reprendre sa forme en assurant une bonne étanchéité et une excellente absorption des ondes sonores.
Dans certaines applications, il est souhaitable que les tampons soient attachés pour qu'on ne puisse pas les perdre s'ils tombent de l'oreille pour une raison quelconque. C'est notamment le cas dans les industries alimentaires où il faut à tout prix éviter que des objets étrangers ne tombent dans les matières traitées. Des tampons auriculaires imperdables sont également nécessaires dans certaines industries où les hommes travaillent à de grandes hauteurs, comme dans la sidérurgie.
Un modèle de protège-ouïe connu comprend deux tampons auriculaires reliés par une cordelette à fixer aux vêtements ou à une partie du corps de l'utilisateur. Cependant, pour des raisons de fabrication, les tampons auriculaires de ce type ne peuvent être en mousse de polymère ou d'élastomère. Il n'ont donc pas la même efficacité que les tampons en mousse de polymère plastifié du type décrit dans le brevet de Gardner Jr. Par ailleurs, il a été proposé de relier deux tampons en matière thermoplastique par une cordelette thermoplastique souple sondée thermiquement. Pour des raisons pratiques, cette opération n'a jamais pu être appliquée à l'échelle industrielle. Il est généralement reconnu que le chlorure de polyvinyle plastifié ne se prête pas à un soudage ultrasonique. On lit par exemple, p. 1345 du volume 3 de l'«Encyclopédie du PVC» éditée par Leonard I. Nass, Marcel Dekker, Inc., New York 1977: «Le soudage ultrasonique n'est pas utilisable pour les PVC souples ou plastifiés, car les vibrations sonores à haute fréquence ne sont pas capables de dégager suffisamment de chaleur dans les substances molles.» Il semble également que les mousses de polymères thermoplastiques ont tendance à s'effondrer rapidement sous l'effet de la chaleur de soudage. Les conséquences en sont des déformations excessives des tampons et une soudure de résistance médiocre entre la cordelette et les tampons.
La présente invention a donc pour objet un dispositif de protection de l'ouïe tel qu'il est défini par la revendication 1.
L'invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication du dispositif de protection de l'ouïe. Ce procédé est défini par la revendication 7.
Les dessins annexés représentent à titre d'exemples non limitatifs deux modes de réalisation de l'objet de l'invention.
La fig. 1 est une vue en perspective schématique d'une première forme de l'objet de l'invention.
La fig. 2 est une vue en perspective schématique d'une seconde forme de l'objet de l'invention, qui comporte deux cordelettes de liaison permettant de le porter en collier.
La fig. 3 illustre la manière de porter le dispositif de protection de la fig. 2.
La fig. 1 représente un dispositif de protection de l'ouïe qui comprend deux tampons auriculaires 5 en mousse de polymère thermoplastique plastifié, et au moins une cordelette de liaison 7 également en polymère thermoplastique plastifié. Les extrémités 9 de la cordelette 7 sont soudés par ultrasons aux tampons 5. D'une manière générale, les tampons 5 peuvent être en une mousse thermoplastique plastifiée de caractéristiques appropriées obtenue à partir d'un polymère d'éthylène, de propylène, de chlorure de vinyle, d'acétate de vinyle, de diisocyanate, d'acétate de cellulose ou d'isobutylène. Les meilleurs résultats sont généralement obtenus avec des homopolymères de chlorure de vinyle ou des copolymères composés d'au moins 85% en poids de chlorure de vinyle et d'au plus 15% d'autres monomères, tels que le chlorure de vinylidène; les esters de vinyle et d'un acide carboxylique, comme l'acétate, le propionate, le butyrate et le benzoate de vinyle; les esters d'acides insaturés, notamment des acrylates d'alkyles comme l'acrylate de méthyle, éthyle, propyle, butyle ou allyle, ainsi que les esters correspondants de l'acide métacrylique; des composés aromatiques du vinyle, notamment le stryrène, l'ortho- et le parachlorostyrène, le 2,5-dichlorostyrène, le 2,4-dichlorostyrèneparaéthylstyrène, le vinyl-naphtalène et l'a-méthylstyrène; des diènes comme le butadiène et le s

chlorobutadiène; des amides insaturés comme l'amide de l'acide acrylique et l'anilide de l'acide acrylique; des nitriles insaturês comme le nitrile de l'acide acrylique; des esters des acides carboxyli-ques a,ß-insatures, notamment les esters de méthyle, éthyle, propyle, butyle, amyle, hexyle, heptyle, octyle, allyle, méthallyle et phényle avec les acides maléique, crotonique, fumarique, etc. Il est en outre souhaitable que la mousse thermoplastique employée pour les tampons contienne une quantité suffisante d'un plastifiant organique, comme décrit dans le brevet des EUA N° (Reissue) 29487 précédemment mentionné. Le lecteur pourra s'y reporter pour obtenir des détails complémentaires sur la composition de la mousse thermoplastique et les techniques de fabrication des tampons auriculaires.
La cordelette 7 peut être en n'importe quelle matière thermoplastique plastifiée de souplesse convenable. Il est cependant préférable d'utiliser un polymère thermoplastique plastifié non moussant et contenant peu ou pas de vacuoles. Il est en outre généralement préférable que la cordelette 7 soit un filament unique et non un cordon tressé ou toronné. Pour faciliter le soudage, il est souhaitable que la cordelette 7 soit en une matière thermoplastique chimiquement semblable à celle des tampons 5. Par exemple, si les tampons 5 sont en un polymère, un copolymère ou un mélange contenant principalement du monomère de chlorure de vinyle, il est normalement souhaitable que la cordelette soit en un polymère de chlorure de vinyle pur ou mélangé. Par ailleurs, il est souhaitable que la cordelette soit souple et sans raideur excessive pour épouser la forme du corps et pour éviter de transmettre des sons aux tampons auriculaires. Cette condition peut être réalisée en incorporant une proportion suffisante de plastifiant dans la composition utilisée. Il faut enfin que la cordelette soit suffisamment solide pour ne pas se rompre en service normal, mais pas trop solide pour ne pas constituer un danger si elle venait à se prendre dans une partie mobile d'une machine. Il va de soi que la résistance idéale de la cordelette 7 peut être obtenue en jouant sur la composition de la matière thermoplastique utilisée et sur la section du filament. La longueur de la cordelette peut varier dans des limites étendues entre un minimum qui correspond à l'écartement des oreilles et un maximum qui permet, par exemple, de l'épingler à un vêtement ou de la fixer à un casque. Par ailleurs, la longueur de la cordelette ne doit pas constituer un danger ou une gêne dans les activités de l'utilisateur.
Quand l'utilisateur porte un casque de protection, il est commode d'y fixer la cordelette par une agrafe ou un dispositif similaire. En l'absence d'un tel casque, la cordelette peut être épinglée ou fixée de toute autre manière sur la veste de l'utilisateur. Les fig. 2 et 3

illustrent une variante plus commode à porter, car elle est pratiquement imperdable. On voit sur la fig. 3 que les tampons auriculaires 10 sont introduits dans les conduits auditifs et que les deux cordelettes 13,15 sont respectivement passées derrière et devant le cou de l'utilisateur. Ainsi, si les tampons se détachent accidentellement, ils restent quand même attachés au cou comme un collier.
Le procédé de soudage ultrasonique de la ou des cordelettes de matière thermoplastique plastifiée aux tampons de mousse thermoplastique plastifiée est un aspect important de l'invention. Pour fabriquer le dispositif de protection de la fig. 1, chaque tampon 5 est monté dans un support rigide qui enserre une partie de sa paroi cylindrique 8. L'extrémité 9 de la cordelette 7 est placée contre la face radiale du tampon 5 et un transducteur ultrasonique, ou sonotrode, est appliqué contre l'extrémité 9 pour la faire pénétrer dans la mousse du tampon. Il est souhaitable que les surfaces de contact du support et éventuellement de la sonotrode soient moletées ou texturées de toute autre manière pour mieux maintenir les parties en présence pendant le soudage. La sonotrode est excitée avec une puissance et pendant une durée suffisantes pour provoquer la fusion et le soudage mutuel de l'extrémité 9 de la cordelette et de la mousse du tampon 5. On peut utiliser une fréquence de 20 kHz, ou plus, avec une puissance mécanique d'environ 380 W. Le temps de soudage est généralement très court, de l'ordre de 0,3 s. A la fin de l'opération, l'assemblage est maintenu immobile pendant une période de refroidissement de la soudure. En général, cette période est relativement courte et dépend des conditions ambiantes.
Les soudures obtenues par le procédé de fabrication décrit présentent une bonne solidité attribuée au fait que la fusion de la mousse thermoplastique n'est pas totale pendant l'application de l'énergie ultrasonique. Cette particularité est importante, car elle signifie qu'il n'y a pas de véritable frontière entre la soudure et le reste de la mousse, ce qui assure une bonne répartition des efforts, évitant un arrachement de la cordelette sous l'effet d'une traction brusque.
La technique de soudage ultrasonique décrite permet de fixer des tampons auriculaires en mousse de chlorure de polyvinyle contenant des quantités appréciables de plastifiants organiques à une ou plusieurs cordelettes en chlorure de polyvinyle fortement plastifié. La cordelette est de préférence un monofilament extrudé d'environ 1,5 mm de diamètre. Les soudures réalisées par le procédé de l'invention présentent une résistance à l'arrachement comprise entre environ 0,9 et 1,2 kgf, ce qui est tout à fait satisfaisant pour un dispositif de protection de l'ouïe.

Claims (8)
- 629 9552REVENDICATIONS1. Dispositif de protection de l'ouïe, comprenant deux tampons auriculaires en mousse de polymère thermoplastique plastifié reliés par au moins une cordelette souple en matière thermoplastique plastifiée, ledit dispositif étant caractérisé en ce que les extrémités de la cordelette sont fixées dans la mousse des tampons auriculaires.
- 2. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend deux cordelettes séparées fixées à leurs extrémités aux deux tampons auriculaires, destiné à se porter autour du cou comme un collier.
- 3. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que la mousse de polymère thermoplastique utilisée pour les tampons auriculaires contient une quantité de plastifiants organiques suffisamment élevée pour que son temps de récupération d'une compression initiale de 60% à une compression de 40% soit compris entre 1 et 60 s, et pour que sa pression d'équilibre sous une compression de 40% soit comprise entre 14 et 90 g/cm2.
- 4. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que les tampons auriculaires sont en une mousse d'homopolymère de chlorure de vinyle ou de copolymère contenant au moins 85% en poids de chlorure de vinyle.
- 5. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que la cordelette de liaison est un monofilament.
- 6. Dispositif selon la revendication 4, caractérisé en ce que la cordelette de liaison est en un homopolymère ou un copolymère de chlorure de vinyle.
- 7. Procédé de fabrication du dispositif de protection de l'ouïe selon la revendication 1, comprenant les étapes suivantes:— supporter rigidement la partie de la pièce de mousse qui est concernée par une soudure,— amener l'extrémité de la cordelette en contact avec la partie supportée de la mousse,— appliquer un transducteur ultrasonique contre l'extrémité de la cordelette à une certaine distance fixe du support de manière que l'extrémité de la cordelette soit pressée contre la partie supportée de la mousse,— exciter le transducteur ultrasonique avec une puissance et pendant une durée suffisantes pour fondre les zones en contact de l'extrémité de la cordelette et de la partie supportée de la mousse,— laisser refroidir la soudure en dessous de la température de fusion de la matière thermoplastique en maintenant la même distance entre le transducteur et le support rigide.
- 8. Procédé selon la revendication 7, caractérisé en ce que la cordelette de liaison est rendue flasque par l'emploi d'une matière thermoplastique suffisamment plastifiée.
