Description

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation de certains dérivés d'acides phénoxybenzoïques à groupe Sulfonamide ayant des propriétés herbicides.
Des dérivés herbicides d'acides phénoxybenzoïques à groupe 60 Sulfonamide sont connus dans les demandes de brevets européens N°s 3416 et 23392.

Selon les procédés connus, les produits de formule I peuvent être préparés par réaction entre 25 et 140° C d'un halogénure d'acide intermédiaire de formule:

où R3 a la signification déjà indiquée, en présence d'un accepteur d'acide, notamment une amine tertiaire telle que la N,N-diméthyl-aniline ou la pyridine, ou un carbonate de métal alcalin tel que le carbonate de potassium anhydre, ou un fluorure de métal alcalin tel que le fluorure de césium.
Les composés de formule I dans laquelle R4 est l'atome d'hydrogène peuvent être alkylés de manière connue, par exemple par réaction d'un diazoalcane de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone, de manière à fournir les produits correspondants dans lesquels R4 est un groupe alkyle de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone.
Ce procédé de condensation des produits de formules II et III a de nombreux inconvénients: les rendements sont médiocres (par exemple on peut calculer un rendement de 27% pour l'exemple 14 de la demande de brevet européen N° 23392 et 9,5% pour l'exemple 34), On pense que c'est la présence d'accepteur d'acide qui abaisse le rendement par le fait qu'il favorise la réaction de diacyla-tion. De plus, l'utilisation d'un accepteur d'acide rend l'isolement et la purification des produits finals plus difficiles et plus coûteux.
Un but de l'invention est de remédier à ces inconvénients.
Le procédé selon l'invention comprend la réaction d'un halogénure d'acide (de préférence un chlorure, un bromure ou un iodure) avec un Sulfonamide de formule III en l'absence d'accepteur d'acide et à une température à laquelle l'acide halohydrique (HCl, HBr, HI) est éliminé sous forme gazeuse du milieu réactionnel au fur et à mesure de sa formation mais sans décomposition appréciable du produit de réaction de formule I.
Grâce au procédé selon l'invention, des rendements notablement plus élevés en dérivés Sulfonamides d'acides phénoxybenzoïques peuvent être obtenus, par exemple des rendements d'au moins environ 30% et fréquemment d'au moins environ 50% et avec un mode de récupération et de purification du produit final beaucoup plus simple que ceux des procédés connus.
Comme halogénure d'acide mis en oeuvre dans l'invention, on utilise en pratique un halogénure d'acide de formule II; de préférence on utilise un halogénure dans la formule duquel A est le groupe N02 ou un atome de fluor, de chlore, de brome ou d'iode; B est un atome d'halogène; C, E et F sont l'atome d'hydrogène; D est le groupe CF3. On préfère également mettre en œuvre des Sulfonamides de formule III dans laquelle R3 est un groupe alkyle, spécialement CH3, ou un groupe CF3.
La température à laquelle le procédé de l'invention peut être mis en œuvre dépend notamment de ce que l'halogénure d'acide de formule II ou le Sulfonamide de formule III sont l'un ou l'autre en large excès ou de ce que l'on utilise, ou non, un solvant ayant des propriétés catalytiques.
Ainsi, lorsque l'halogénure d'acide II est en large excès, c'est-à-dire que le rapport molaire II/III est compris entre environ 1,5 et 5, l'halogénure d'acide II peut servir de solvant pour la réaction et la température de réaction peut être comprise entre 80 et 200° C, mais elle est alors de préférence comprise entre 90 et 160° C.
L'halogénure d'acide II n'ayant pas réagi peut être récupéré du milieu réactionnel par lavage avec un solvant inerte tel qu'un hydrocarbure, notamment le pentane, l'hexane, l'heptane, le cyclopentane, le cyclohexane, le cycloheptane, le benzène, le toluène, le xylène, un hydrocarbure halogéné, notamment les chlorobenzènes, CS2, le tétrahydrofuranne, le dioxanne et d'autres.
Quand on utilise un excès de Sulfonamide, c'est-à-dire quand le rapport molaire des composés III/II est compris entre 1,5 et 5, la température réactionnelle est alors généralement comprise entre 90 et 200° C et de préférence comprise entre 140 et 160° C. En tout état de cause, elle doit être au moins suffisante pour faire fondre le milieu réactionnel. L'excès de Sulfonamide III peut être récupéré du milieu réactionnel par lavage à l'eau ou un autre solvant inerte de ce réactif III.
Les réactifs peuvent aussi être dissous dans un solvant inerte ayant un point d'ébullition supérieur à la température de réaction, par exemple un hydrocarbure liquide, chloré ou non, tel que le benzène, le toluène, les xylènes, les mélanges de xylènes, le eumène, auquel cas la température maximale de réaction est avantageusement légèrement inférieure au point d'ébullition du solvant. Ainsi dans le cas du eumène qui bout à environ 153° C, la réaction est mise en œuvre de préférence entre 130 et 150° C. L'usage d'un solvant inerte a l'avantage pratique de permettre un meilleur transfert de chaleur dans un procédé à l'échelle industrielle; il permet aussi d'éviter les surchauffes locales du milieu réactionnel.
Selon une autre variante de l'invention, on utilise un solvant ayant une action catalytique à l'égard de la réaction entre l'halogénure d'acide II et le Sulfonamide III pour fournir le phénoxybenzoyl-sulfonamide I. Le diméthylformamide (=DMF; qui bout à environ 154° C) et le diméthylacétamide (=DMAC; qui bout à environ 164° C) sont particulièrement avantageux à cet égard et leur usage permet la mise en œuvre de températures relativement basses, par

exemple comprises entre 80 et 120° C, de préférence entre 90 et 110° C ou encore des températures plus élevées, légèrement inférieures aux points d'ébullition de ces solvants; la vitesse de réaction est alors plus rapide.
Les exemples suivants donnés à titre non limitatif illustrent l'invention et montrent comment elle peut être mise en œuvre.
Exemple 1:
On mélange 2 g (0,021 mol) de méthanesulfonamide avec 3,8 g (0,01 mol) de chlorure de l'acide 5-2'-chloro-4'-(trifluorométhyl)-phénoxy-2-nitrobenzoïque. On chauffe le mélange 20 min à 150° C. L'acide chlorhydrique se dégage du milieu réactionnel au fur et à mesure de sa formation. On refroidit; on a une huile noire qu'on dissout dans de la soude aqueuse; on filtre, acidifie le filtrat à l'aide d'HCl dilué, ce qui précipite le produit de formule IV. On a ainsi obtenu, avec un rendement de 71%, 3,1 g de produit fondant à 195-197° C et ayant une bande d'absorption infrarouge à 1692 cm-1 (groupe C=0). Ce produit a pour formule:

Exemple 2:
On reproduit l'exemple 1 mais en utilisant 250 g de chlorure io d'acide et 130 g de méthanesulfonamide. Le produit de réaction est isolé directement après refroidissement du mélange par recristallisation dans l'isopropanol. On a un rendement de 64% (185 g) en produit de formule IV. La structure de ce produit est confirmée par infrarouge (bande d'absorption à 1692 cm ~ ') et par résonance mais gnêtique nucléaire (singulet à 3,5 ppm; multiplet à 8,07 ppm).
En appliquant le procédé de l'exemple de la demande de brevet européen N° 23392 en utilisant la pyridine comme accepteur d'acide, le rendement n'a été que de 25%.

    R est un groupe —C0N(R4)S02R3 dans lequel R4 est l'hydrogène ou un groupe alkyle de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone;
    R3 est un groupe phényle, pyridyle ou thiényle éventuellement m substitué par un ou plusieurs atomes d'halogène, ou groupes alkyle, ou groupes nitro, ou un radical alkényle ou alkynyle ayant 2 à 4 atomes de carbone ou un radical alkyle de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone éventuellement substitué par un ou plusieurs atomes de fluor, chlore, brome ou iode, ou par un ou plusieurs des substituants suivants : 45 carboxyle, alkoxycarbonyle de 2 à 5 atomes de carbone, alkylcarbonyle de 2 à 5 atomes de carbone, mono- ou dialkylcarbamoyle dans lequel les groupes aîkyle ont de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyle, alkylsulfonyle, chacun ayant de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone, alkylcarbortyfoxyle de 2 à 5 atomes de carbone, alkyl- 50 carbonylamino de 2 à 5 atomes de carbone, ou cyano, ledit procédé consistant à faire réagir un halogénure d'acide de formule sa formation, cette température étant inférieure à la température de décomposition du produit de formule (I).
  2. 2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'on opère en présence d'un excès d'halogénure d'acide de formule (II).
  3. 3. Procédé selon la revendication 2, caractérisé en ce que le rapport molaire halogénure d'acide de formule (II)/sulfonamide de formule (III) est compris entre 1,5 et 5.
  4. 4. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 2 ou 3, caractérisé en ce que la température réactionnelle est comprise entre 80 et 200° C, de préférence entre 90 et 160° C.
  5. 5. Procédé selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'on opère en présence d'un excès de Sulfonamide.
  6. 6. Procédé selon la revendication 5, caractérisé en ce que le rapport molaire Sulfonamide de formule (III)/halogénure d'acide de formule (II) est compris entre 1,5 et 5.
  7. 7. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 5 ou 6, caractérisé en ce que la température réactionnelle est comprise entre 90 et 200° C, de préférence entre 140 et 160° C.
  8. 8. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 1 à 7, caractérisé en ce que l'on opère en présence d'un solvant ayant un point d'ébullïtion supérieur à la température réactionnelle.
  9. 9. Procédé selon la revendication 8, caractérisé en ce que le solvant est un hydrocarbure.
  10. 10. Procédé selon la revendication % caractérisé en ce que le solvant est le eumène et que lai température est comprise entre 130 et 150° C.
  11. 11. Procédé selon Fune des revendications 1 à ST caractérisé en ce qttTon opère en présence d'un solvant ayant des propriétés catalytï-ques à l'égard de la réaction.
  12. 12. Procédé selon la revendication 1 i, caractérisé en ce que le solvant est le dimétfoylformamrds ou. le dmêtfrylkcêtainjMe et que la température est comprise entre 80' C et la température d'ébullition du solvant.
  13. 13. Pfocédé selon la revendication 12r caractérisé' en ce que la température est supérieure à 90° C.
  14. 14. Procédé selon Fune des revendications I à 13, caractérisé en ce que,, dans les forniufes. (I) et (II), B et X sont l'atome de chlore, Ä est l'atome de chlore ou N02, C, E, F sont l'atome d'hydrogène, D est CFj.
  15. 15. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 6 ou 7, caractérisé en ce que le Sulfonamide est tel que R3 est un groupe alkyle ou CF3, de préférence méthyle.
  16. 16. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 1 à 15, caractérisé en ce que l'on effectue la réaction entre

    CO-NH-SO--CH n i- o etCH,—SO,—NH,

    dans laquelle X est un atome de chlore, de brome ou d'iode et A, B, C, D, E, F ont les significations indiquées dans la formule (I), avec un Sulfonamide de formule
