L'un des pôles de la source d'électricité alimentant la bougie est à la masse du moteur et est relié par suite au culot a., tandis que l'autre, isolé, est relié à la partie fa de l'électrode centrale q-h. Lors du fonctionnement, une première étin celle directe jaillit entre les extrémités en regard des deux parties g h. qui ne se tou chent pas, dans la chambreiii qui sert de chambre d'éclatement;
Spark plug for engines with. explosions. The object of the invention is an ignition spark plug for explosion engines.
It comprises an insulating body placed in a base and subdivided transversely into three parts in the longitudinal axis of which is housed a central electrode divided into two parts which are not in contact and whose opposite ends are located in a chamber of the insulating body. , in which direct sparks are produced giving rise to high voltage sparks between the central electrode and the base.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the spark plug and a variant of this embodiment.
Figs. 1 and 2 are a longitudinal section and an elevation of said embodiment; Figs. 3 and 4 are a longitudinal section and an elevation of the variant. According to fig. 1 and 2, the base a of the spark plug, intended to be screwed into the wall of the engine cylinder, is provided with cooling fins which will be located outside this wall.
In it is mounted the insulating body bcd, having the shape of a body of revolution, divided transversely into three superimposed pieces bcd, and pressed on a lining ît by a sheath metal which is screwed into the base, and whose loosening is prevented by two knurled ferrules ff 'screwed on it; this sheath serves at the same time to apply a lining o on the insulating body.
The upper d and lower b parts can be made of any suitable insulating material; quartz, mica, porcelain for example, while the middle part c is made of a transparent insulating material, preferably quartz. Windows r are provided in the duct e at the height of this room c and allow to see what is happening inside it.
The insulating body bcd is axially pierced with a passage where it is housed (central electrode gh. The latter comprises two parts. The lower part g consists of a cylindrical section of average diameter, placed inside part b, a base j of a slightly larger diameter, held in place, and all part g with it,
by two linings p q in a chamber of b. of an upper cylindrical section of small diameter entering a chamber m of the fold-ce c at the height of the windows r, of a lower cylindrical section of small diameter, protruding outside the part b, finally of a truncated #ection being at the bottom of the last cylindrical section and at the height of the lower end of the cu lot. The other part of the electrode, h,
has a base 7 housed in the chamber m and provided with a point facing the inner part h, as well as a cylindrical section of smaller diameter, passing through the part d and threaded; on the thread are arranged two nuts used to hold it in place by resting on d. The gaskets ît o wq can be, for example, in asbestos aluminum, copper and asbestos.
One of the poles of the source of electricity supplying the spark plug is at the engine ground and is consequently connected to the base a., While the other, isolated, is connected to the part fa of the central electrode qh . During operation, a first direct spark springs between the opposite ends of the two parts g h. that do not touch each other, in the iii chamber which serves as the burst chamber;
the high fr @ q @ uence current thus created gives rise to one or more sparks spurting out between the lower ends of the part g and the base, in the explosion chamber of the motor, even in the event that there is fouling due to the high voltage obtained.
You can see how well it is working at any time by looking through the windows to see what is going on in the room.
The expansion of the lower part g of the electrode y - h has no influence on the upper part h which remains tightly sealed in the part d, unlike what happens in candles where the central elec trode is in one piece.
As results from Figs. 1 and 2, the embodiment described is completely removable.
In the variant shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 and which is intended to be housed in an automobile engine valve cover cap, the base a rises to the upper end of the sheath e. Opposite the windows r of the latter, it presents t windows allowing you to see what is happening in the room. Holes u are drilled in a flange that has the sheath e and through which the latter is screwed into the base a.
The windows t and the holes u allowing the establishment of an air circulation contributing to the cooling of the candle; the second can also be used for the face and for blocking the sheath e during assembly.
The drawing shows four windows r in the sheath and four windows t in the base a-, but it is evident that the number of windows may differ from four.
