Description

A method of making a black dye. The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a black dye having the qualities of the ordinary black dye to dinitrophenol but with better resistance to chlorine. According to this process, sodium sulphide is allowed to act on nitrisocresol. then after reaction, dinitrophenol is introduced and after condensation, sodium sulphide is added to which water is added, a further reduction is carried out by heating the mixture to 85 ", then sulfur is added and brought to the boil until complete formation of the black dye.

This process can be implemented, for example, as follows.

35 to 70 kg of crystallized sodium sulphide, added to their weight of water, are made to act on 35 kg of nitrisocresol.

After reaction, 45 kg of dinitrophenol are introduced and then after condensation, 140 kg of sodium sulphide plus their weight of water. A further reduction is carried out by heating the mixture to 85 "centigrade, then 70 kg of sulfur is added and the mixture is brought to the boil until complete black formation is carried out by refluxing the vaporized water after condensation in the tank. apparatus by means of a suitable device.

The operation lasts 18 to 24 hours. The dye formed is then precipitated by addition of acid or by a current of air or of gaseous chlorine. The product thus obtained is filtered off and dried in order to be thus used for dyeing after dissolution in an alkali sulphide.
