Speedometer device. The present invention relates to an indicator apparatus intended to measure the number of revolutions executed by a rotating shaft, during a determined time chosen as a unit, that is to say the speed of rotation of this shaft.
The device in question has a positive device. a continuous connection between a driving member, constantly actuated by the shaft whose speed of rotation is to be measured, and a receiving member which, during the period of time chosen as a unit, first moves at a speed weight proportional to that to be measured, then stops at the end of the said period, to finally return to its original position, and then recommence movements similar to the preceding ones during the following period. Due to the presence of the aforementioned device, any loss of time for establishing the connection between the motor unit and the receiver unit is. avoided.
The receiving member actuates, without any intermediary, an indicator member which, after each of the periodic displacements effected by the receiving member, comes to occupy a position determined by the stop position of this member, a position which corresponds precisely to the speed that it is (. measure it.
The apparatus which is the subject of the pre, # unte invention is furthermore established as will be explained below, with a view to ensuring the continuity of the functions, that is to say the practically perfect accuracy. from the beginning.
and <I> Cie </I> the end of each of the periods during which the receiving organ is driven by the motor organ, as well as the stopping of the receiving organ and the indicating organ in the exact positions which they must occupy, respectively, at the beginning and at the end of each period.
The device. can be actuated, for example, by the wheel of a vehicle, and, by indicating the position of a needle on a dial suitably graduated, the speed in lciloinfres to. time. It comprises: i A movable member, which always rotates at a speed proportional to that in question. to measure and continuously remains in engagement with- titi receiving member with reciprocating movement, intended to determine the angular position which the indicator needle will occupy, this continuous grip being.
performed by mechanical combination urn l.; erme # ttant, following. operation needs, either to force the reciprocating receiving organ to follow the movement (the moving part. or to release it.
without ceasing the grip, to allow the receiving gold to return to its original position. We 1-had, for example, to achieve this hold by means of a satellite and an accessory wheel, which, depending on it. fi_ & clans space or crazy, gives or refuses a fulcrum for the satellite. and consequently pro dufl, either the entrainment of the receiving organ tiar the mobile organ, or the liberation of these two organs.
N "Brakes, acting. On said organs, curry must be either momentarily fixed in space at determined positions, or momentarily, abandoned to the action of their. Return organs or to the action of their organs. The action of these brakes is controlled by cams rotating at constant speed.
To facilitate understanding of the description, reference is made to the appended drawing, -, which represents, by way of example: Figz. 1, a se-haematic ledge in elevation runs lonitudinal of an embodiment of the speedometer being the object. of the. present -invention, i-. w, a view of one of the brakes, used as shown above.
The apparatus shown comprises a wheel 1, mounted on a fixed axis X, and receiving a rotational movement the speed of which is proportional to that of the member whose number of revolutions is to be measured in the unit of time. .
A satellite "remains constantly engaged with the teeth 3 of the wheel 1, and with the teeth 4 of a wheel 5: the axis 6 of this satellite is integral with a wheel 7, from the inside. - medial cl'unc bushing S, loose on the axle and integral with the wheel%, the wheel) is mounted loose on this socket 5.
The wheel 7 carries a pin or a spout 9, able to drive a wheel 10 mounted loose on the X axis, this drive being effected by the spout 11. of the latter wheel ctui carries the indicator needle f? which moves in front of a frame not shown in the drawing.
Wheels 5,% and 10 present. circular grooves ry ff and fi "', clans which are placed the brake blades f (fig. 2_-. The crne of the ends of each of these blades is attached to a fixed point 1-3 and.
the other end is attached to a lever L pivoting around trrl axis 14. Each brake lever corresponds to a return spring R. whose action is combined with that of a cam C, to make alternately pass 1 ,, brake blade f through periods of tension and relaxation.
By construction, the wheels 7 and 10 cannot make more than one revolution. At the origin of the movement, the beak 9 of the wheel 7 is pressed against a fixed stop. not shown in the drawing, by the action called spring. of ra.p.- pel 1.5 (fig. 1; fixed, on the one hand, to the. wheel itself, and., on the other hand, to the X axis which is fixed in the space.
Similarly, at the origin of its movement, the beak 11 of the wheel 10 is pressed against the beak 9 (the wheel?. By means of the return spring 16, the beak 9 itself being pressed against the fixed stop. not shown, indicated above.
The device works as follows: Given that, measure a speed or a number of revolutions. it comes down to showing me the distance traveled during the unit of time, let us first remember that the wheel 1 does. in the unit of time, a number of revolutions proportional to the speed to be measured.
Time zero. In the beginning. of operation. at the time that we will call time zero, the cam corresponding to wheel 5 lets the corresponding lever escape to this wheel, which is then blocked by the corresponding brake.
The satellite 2 then finding resistance on the toothing 'i immediately forces the axis (i to rotate around the axis X, causing the sleeve 8 and, consequently, the wheel' 7. The beak 9 reddens beak 11 of wheel 10 by driving the latter and the needle 12.
It must be observed that the brakes made as specified above act, especially: when the sers (the rotation is. That of the arrow l '', while (kills the rotation remains possible in the direction (the arrow F "= .
By construction, after time zero. the wheels 7 and 10 move in the direction F -. .1 at time zero, wheel 7 is released from the action of its brake by a previous function which has blocked wheel <B> 10. </B> Time 7 ''. The cams acting. on the respective levers L give the following functions: The wheel '7 is blocked. The: wheel 5, released (the action of its brake, goes crazy on bushing 8 and turns, pulled by satellite 2.
The wheel 10 is released from the brake evening action.
Time 7 '=. The cams have the following functions: Wheel 10 is blocked.
The wheel 7, released from the action of its brake, returns to the origin (the sound movement, that is to say to its starting point under the action of its return spring I5.
A phase is thus completed, and the same functions go. to be repeated in the same order in the new times.
New time zero. Wheel 5 is blocked.
Wheel 7, previously released. obeys the action of satellite 2.
Wheel 10, blocked. indicates by its position the previous speed.
Three cases, A 13 and C, are then to be considered.
<I> A. The </I> -new <I> speed is greater than the previous </I> <I>. </I> The nozzle 9 will push the wheel 10 further than before and, consequently, the needle 12 will advance more far in front of its dial. 13. <I> The </I> new speed is equal to <I> the </I> previous one.
1.e, nozzle 1) will stop at the precise moment when it will come into contact with nozzle 11 of wheel 10 and the needle will not advance.
<B>C</B> <I>. </I> The r n.ozrcelle city <I> is </I> lower <I> it </I> the previous one. The nozzle!) Will stop before meeting the nozzle 1l of the wheel 10.
The next time will explain to us what is going to happen.
New time 7 ''. Wheel 5 is released. wheel 7 is blocked, wheel 1.0 is. released. I: rrvi @ a ,, eall the three cases:: 1 and <I> 73. </I> 1, the needle, lih @ rée while it is in contact with the pusher ales nozzles 9 and. 1.1 are. (, he contacts !, laughs not moving.
C. Under the action of the return spring 16, the wheel i0 comes 1-: a1 evening nozzle it abuts against the nozzle 9, thus stopping the needle i in front of the, graduation of. corresponding dial. at the new speed.
New time T '. Wheel 5 remains crazy. The, wheel 10 is. blocked. spinning. so guille him to his new position.
1. a. wheel 7, released. returns to its origin. starting point.
<B> El </B> and so on. In other words: During the period from zero to T1 (unit of i.ernps !, 1111 pusher 7 describes an angle proportional to the speed to be measured.
For the duration of 7 <B> "</B> to the next zero, if the speed is increasing, and for a period (begins shortly after 7 '', if the speed is decreasing. The needle occupies a position indicator of the speed - measured during the duration of zero il T ', duration which is the unit of time.
The components which actuate the cams C have not <B> been </B> described. These are known organs, common to a large number of devices, and essentially. constituted by a regulator (exhaust or other device), which forces the cams to rotate at a constant speed, thus ensuring the exact periodicity of the phases in operation.
