Cet axe i est relié par un joint universel j à une tige k, reliée elle-même par un joint universel1 à l'arbre de ,la dynamo a. La distance de l'axe d à l'aie de l'essieu b est, lors du montage, légèrement inférieure à la somme des rayons des cercles primitifs des deux roues dentées c et f ;
Transmission between an axle of a vehicle running on a railroad track and a machine to be operated by the rotation of said axle. The invention relates to a transmission to be interposed between an axle of a vehicle running on a railroad track and a machine, for example a dynamo, to be actuated by the rotation of said axle.
Its purpose is to enable transmissions of the type in question to be established in such a way that, while being very simple, they can operate efficiently, despite the lateral displacements of the axle due to the yaw movement and the lateral play left to the bearings, and despite the vertical displacements of said axle due to the wear of its bearing.
According to the invention, the transmission has two straight toothed wheels meshing together and one of which is fixed on the axle and the other journaled on the grease box of said axle, the normal distance of the axes of said wheels being preferably chosen from such that it is slightly less than the sum of the radii of the pitch circles of these two toothed wheels. The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment.
Fig. 1. schematically shows a plan view; Fig. 2 shows an elevational view, FIG. 3 is an explanatory diagram.
On the end of the axle b is fixed a toothed wheel with straight teeth c.
A toothed wheel f, mounted idly on an axis ci in supports integral with the cover e of the grease box of said axle, meshes with the wheel c. Said wheel f has a sufficient width so that it remains in engagement with the wheel c whatever the lateral displacements of the axle: A conical toothed wheel g is integral with said wheel f.
Said -wheel g meshes with a bevel pinion 7t carried by an axis i journalled in a support fixed to the cover of the grease box.
This axis i is connected by a universal joint j to a rod k, itself connected by a universal joint 1 to the shaft of the dynamo a. The distance from the axis d to the center of the axle b is, during assembly, slightly less than the sum of the radii of the pitch circles of the two toothed wheels c and f;
it follows that, when, owing to the wear of its bearing, the axle moves along the vertical m, fig: 3, the meshing of the two toothed wheels which were too engaged one in the other does not become normal only when the axle has reached the point m 'oii the circumference, having for radius the sum of the radii of the pitch circumferences of the wheels c and f and for center the axis d, meets vertical in. As a result, axle b can move a relatively large amount vertically without affecting the transmission.
As goes without saying, the invention is in no way limited to. that of its embodiments which has been more especially indicated; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
