Device for brewing coffee. The present invention relates to a device for the preparation of coffee infusion.
This device comprises a casing in which there is a boiler provided with a neck which is integral with it and in which are arranged at least two filters between which the load of coffee powder is placed, the casing being carried by a support of so as to be in unstable equilibrium when the boiler is full of liquid with its neck up, a retaining device being provided to keep it in this position until the moment when the water contained in the boiler is boiling, this saying positive being established so that the pressure of the steam then acts on it so as to release the casing and allow it to tip over,
so that the opening of the neck containing the load of coffee powder comes to be placed above a receptacle intended to receive the infusion, the water contained in the boiler then being expelled by the pressure of the steam through this load, this positive dis further comprising means for heating the water contained in the boiler. The appended drawing represents by way of example an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical section thereof; Fig. 2 is a front view; Figs. 3 to 8 are construction detail views, FIG. 6 being a section through A-B, fig. 1, and fig. 7, a section through E-F of fig. 6; Fig. 9 is a vertical section through the upper part of the neck placed on the boiler.
The device shown comprises a boiler 1 to which is fixed a neck 2 which is retained by its upper end to a casing 14 which surrounds the neck and the boiler. At its lower end, this neck contains a filter 3 placed immediately on the boiler 1. In its upper part, this neck is slightly widened and has a screw thread in which is screwed a member 4 consisting of a cylindrical tube which holds in place. places on the rim 8 a disc 9 having in its median part an opening 10. Under this opening is fixed a disc ring 12 perforated with small or lateral vertures and to which is fixed a titi say that smaller 11.
The thread is constituted on the upper part of the neck 2 by a winding of metal wire 5 whose turns are slightly spaced from each other and which is welded to this part. On the member 4 the screw thread is made up of 1a, in the same way by a winding of metal wire 7.
The casing 14 containing the boiler 1 and the neck 2, is articulated by its lower part to a support 27 so as to be normally in unstable equilibrium, by means of two pivots 21, which constitute contacts for an electric current. These pivots are fixed to the casing by means of a nut 26 and the part of each pivot which passes through the casing is surrounded by a washer 24 of insulating material.
On each side of the opening made in the casing to allow the pivots to pass, there is a metal plate 22 and 25, these plates being isolated from the latter by sheets of insulating material such as for example mica. Each pivot is provided on its unthreaded part with a longitudinal slot in which is housed a member of insulating material 28 projecting on the irr of the sides of the pivot and which is held in place by a metal sleeve 29 fixed to the pivot to using ring 30 (fig. 3 and 4). These two pivots rest on members of the support 27.
These members consist of a metal casing 31 (fig. 6 and 7) which is for example welded to the support 27 and which contains on its surface and) in contact with the support, an insulating sheet 33 and on its opposite face the same sheet. 32 between which there is a body of insulating material 34, of U-shaped cross section. In the empty space of this body is a metal block 35 having in its upper part an opening 36 which serves as a housing for the pivot 21. This metal block is connected at 35n to a conductive wire and transmits the current to the pivot 21 which is connected by a wire 21, to an electrical resistor 13 arranged around the boiler.
The device is maintained in its normal position by a plug 15 which engages in the opening of the neck 2. This plug is provided with a rod 19 which passes through the upper part of the support 27 and which is under the influence of the coil spring 20 which continually tends to remove the plug from the neck 2. The plug 15 is retained on this rod 19 by two discs, one upper 17 and the other lower 18, the first having on its lower part titi annular body 50 which engages in a corresponding annular groove of the stopper 15.
In order for the casing to tilt as soon as the plug is removed from the neck, there is a slight excess weight on one side of the pivot axis.
To avoid oscillations after the rocking movement of the casing, the latter has a pin 40 which abuts against a stop 41 fixed to the support 27. This stop is rigid and has an opening (FIG. 8) in which s 'engages the pin 40. This opening has in cross section an inclined portion 411, behind which is a recess 42 located on the bottom 43 of the opening.
The support 27 is fixed on a base plate 44 which has an electrical resistance 45 for heating the container intended to receive the infusion of coffee.
The operation is as follows: the boiler 1 is filled with a quantity of water corresponding to the quantity of infusion that it is desired to obtain. The coffee powder charge is introduced into the neck 2 and onto the filter 3, at the hub of a small funnel 37 and a coffee press 38 (fig. 5). Then the organ 4 is screwed in place with the filter 9 and the plug 15 is pushed into the opening of the neck.
The water in the boiler 1 is then heated by means of the resistor 13 which receives the edge passing through the members of the support on which the pivots 21 rest and by the latter which are connected to the resistor by a conductive wire. When the water in the boiler 1 begins to boil, the steam pressure drives the plug 15 from the opening of the neck 2 and the device rocks around the pivots 21. The protruding part 28 of insulating material of each pivot then rests on the conductive body 35 of the support members and the current is automatically interrupted.
The rod 40 abuts against the stop 41, slides on the inclined part 41a of its opening; which slightly lifts the casing 14 of the device, and then falls back into the recess 42 so as to immobile rete nir the opening of the neck 2 above the container intended to receive the infusion.
The boiler being overturned and the pressure of the steam acting on the water it contains, this water is expelled under pressure through the load of coffee contained in the neck 2.
On each side of the support 27 is placed a stop 43, these stops are placed in the opposite direction with respect to each other, which allows to place indifferently in one direction or the other the envelope 14 in the support. When you do not want to put the full charge of coffee powder in the neck 2, a conical body 39 is introduced into the latter, the filter 3 in order to reduce the space in which the coffee powder is located.
In order to conserve heat around the boiler, the latter may for example be surrounded, at least partially, by a metal which is a good conductor of heat, such as, for example, copper which still remains hot after the source of heat. heat is no longer active, in order to keep the water in the boiler boiling.
The arrangement of the electric resistance on the side walls of the boiler and not on the bottom of it, makes that the water which is on this bottom is less hot than that which is in contact with the side walls which are hot so that while the jacket tilts, this less hot water, by mixing with the hotter water, temporarily lowers the temperature of the latter and therefore decreases the pressure in the boiler for a moment so that the infusion is not projected outside until the envelope is completely overturned.
The boiler can be heated by a hub other than by electric current. It is possible to place on the opening of the receptacle intended to receive the infusion, a filter which is intended to retain parts of the coffee which could come out of the neck through the openings of the disc 9.
