Hearth for steam generator, in particular for locomotives. The object of the present invention is a hearth for steam generators suitable for burning pulverized fuel, that is to say pulverized solid or liquid fuel, in particular for steam generators for locomotives. Experience has shown that the usual type of locomotive boiler does not lend itself well to the combustion of pulverized or liquid fuel. To economically use these fuels, it is preferable to provide a firebox of large volume, relative to the water-cooled surface, as is the case in ordinary types of locomotive boilers burning solid fuel. on grids.
It is also preferable, when it is desired to burn a pulverized or liquid fuel in a boiler locomotive; to provide space for the use of the long flames produced during combustion.
The object of the present invention is a home in which these conditions are obtained. It comprises: a boiler body 'having a firebox surrounded by a water chamber; a cylindrical-shaped combustion chamber made of refractory material housed in the lower part of said boiler body; a cylindrical extension extending towards the rear of said body from a brick vault of the firebox and terminating in a tube plate! finally. devices for the introduction of pulverized fuel and air. in the firebox.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example only, three embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a first exemplary embodiment; Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof; Fig. 3 is, on a larger scale than that of the preceding figures, a longitudinal section of a second embodiment of the object of the invention applied to the case where a liquid fuel is used.
Fig. 4 is, also on a larger scale than that of Figures 1 and 2, a partial longitudinal section of a third embodiment.
The fireplace according to fig. 1 and 2 com carries a firebox 1 of a locomotive boiler. The firebox is arranged inside the boiler body 2 and main-. held by means of spacers 3, so that the water chamber 4 completely surrounds the firebox. In the present embodiment, the bottom of the firebox 1 and that of the boiler body 2 are semi-cylindrical so as to better withstand the internal pressure. Water tubes 26 are arranged below the brick vault 27.
The tube plate 5 of the firebox is placed very forward in the boiler and is carried by a cylindrical extension of the corrugated-walled firebox 6, the rear end of which is in communication with the interior of the firebox. fire.
In the bottom of the firebox is provided a member 7 which constitutes an air-cooled slag box, member whose lower end is closed by a door 8 and is of sufficient dimensions to allow a man to enter it. pass to enter the home for examination or repair. This member makes it possible to eliminate the usual throat and the door of the hearth which are replaced by a manhole 9.
The pulverized fuel and the primary air are brought through a tube 10 into a mixing chamber 11, and the additional air enters the chamber 11 through the conduits 12 and 13. The inner end of this mixing chamber 11 communicates with the interior of a combustion chamber 18 which is made of refractory material, cylindrical in shape, and provided with slots 14, establishing communication between said chamber and several ventilation channels 15. These said channels are formed by hollow bricks 16 of refractory material, usually used for this type of construction.
The ventilation channels 15 are in communication at their front ends with an annular chamber 17 surrounding the aforementioned mixing chamber 11, which annular chamber is in communication with the auxiliary air duct 12. The auxiliary air ducts 12 and 13 are controlled by adjustable registers in the usual manner and the air admitted through these ducts mixes with the atomized fuel and the primary air in the combustion chamber 18, as has been indicated above.
The hearth can also be adapted for the combustion of liquid fuel, in which case the bottom of the firebox is preferably provided with grate bars 19, on which pieces of a refractory material are spread which are sprinkled with liquid fuel, as shown in fig. 3, the solid fuel burner being replaced by a liquid fuel burner 20 which can be operated either with compressed air or with steam; that is to say that a certain quantity of steam or air passing through the tube 21 can be used to effect the introduction of the liquid fuel through the tube 22 and its projection through the orifice 23 of the burner, a valve 24 being provided for controlling the device.
If you want, you can still bring in a certain amount of additional air; by means of a fan, to a chamber 25, as shown in FIG. 4.
The axial pipe for the supply of solid fuel can be removable, so that it can be replaced by a pipe for the supply of liquid fuel, so that the fireplace can be supplied either with solid fuel or with liquid fuel. .
When the hearth is suitable for the combustion of oil to be burnt, the member 7 is employed for the introduction of air to the grid. The solid fuel feed tube and the liquid fuel feed tube can both be fitted at the same time, so that either solid fuel, or liquid fuel, or both fuels can be used simultaneously. , and the term pulverized fuel should be extended also for a mixture of solid fuel and pulverized liquid fuel.
