Pendulum device to mark the hours. The object of the present invention is a device for marking the hours, in which the electrical energy is used. to maintain the oscillation movement of a pendulum suspended from a member acting by torsion.
In the accompanying drawing, which shows an embodiment of the invention given by way of example: Fig. 1 shows schematically this device in elevation; Fig. 2 is a diagram of the electrical connections.
On a base a are mounted two net colonists b and c linked together by bridges d and e. A balance h, is suspended by means of a screw g1 at the lower end of a flat res out f whose upper end is fixed by a screw J to the bridge d. The balance, to which, as will be seen below, one communicates by hand, when the device is started up, an os cillation movement around a vertical axis passing through the spring f, is constituted by a balanced flywheel and its oscillations are symmetrical with respect to its equilibrium position.
The Class 7 2 a motor system is made up of the solenoid i inside which can move a mobile armature k, which can, when the positive device is working, push a small metal blade 1, made of nickel for example, integral with the spring f. The latter, which, under the action of the oscillations of the balance h, receives a torsional movement, drives in its movement the blade 1 which comes into contact, towards the end of each of the complete oscillations of the balance h, against the end of the armature k, making contact, the effect of which will be seen below.
The electric current (lighting, batteries, etc.) arrives from a socket o via a wire in to a terminal n provided on the device, then from there to the solenoid i in the armature k from which it passes. The armature k is formed of two parts, one of which k1, around which, in order to obtain better contact, the wire is wound, is made of iron and the other k2 of nickel.
The current then passes through the metal strip 1 at the moment when the oscillations of the ba lance la bring it into contact with the armature k, passes through the spring f, a wire ml and arrives at a coil p, in the wire of which it passes, then returns by the wire ni; a terminal n ', at the socket o of the electric current source.
The coil p is provided with an armature s which carries a pawl cq, dragging, when it is in operation, a ratchet wheel r which the pawl advances by one tooth at each impulse and whose shaft carries a pinion u which transmits its movement to a gear train, shown schematically only in fig. 2, which operates in the usual manner, which it is not necessary to describe here, the needles x and y of the device.
The movable armature k of the solenoid i and the movable armature also of the coil p are both held by devices which are not shown in the appended drawing, in the rest position, when the current is not flowing through the solenoid i and the coil p, that is to say in a position which is not symmetrical with respect to these in bearings.
These reinforcements, during the passage of the current in the windings i and p respectively, are returned to the working position in these windings by moving respectively in the direction marked by the arrows in FIG. 2 and communicate, the first, an impulse to the blade 1 of the res out f of the balance h, while maintaining the oscillations of the latter, the second, an impulse to the pawl q, which advances the ratchet r-, consequently the needles of the device.
The operation of the device is as follows: An oscillating movement is transmitted by hand to the balance h around a vertical axis passing through the spring f. The blade 1, </ I> solidaire of the spring f carrying the balance h, driven by the movement of the latter, abuts against the armature 1c of the solenoid i. The oscillations of the balance h, being sy-metric with respect to its free equilibrium position, the blade 1 will come into contact with the armature k at regular intervals.
The current which comes from the socket o passes through the wire in in the solenoid i, by its armature, the blade 1, the spring f, the wire înl, the coil p and returns to the socket by the thread în. At the moment when the current passes through the solenoid i its arma- tune lc is brought back from its rest position to its working position, movement during which it exerts a thrust against the blade 1, which has the effect of maintaining the movement. rotation of the balance le, and the armature is returned from its rest position to its working position, by causing in its movement the pawl q which rotates the ratchet r whose pinion u, carried by the shaft of said ratchet,
drives the gear train, shown schematically in fig. 2, and will operate the x and y hands of the device. As soon as the blade l pushed by the 7c armature loses contact with it, the current is interrupted, the armatures k and s return to the rest position and will not work. until the blade 1, brought back by the balance h, has resumed contact with the armature k.
The devices maintaining the frames k and s in the rest position can be antagonistic springs. The current used may be direct or alternating and a single balance la may control one or more coils, so that several pairs of needles can be operated with a single distributor balance.
