Vehicle comprising a frame resiliently mounted on wheels. The present invention relates to a vehicle comprising a frame mounted elastically on wheels. This vehicle is charac terized in that it comprises two superimposed axles, one driving and the other carrying, the carrying axle being connected to the chassis by a suspension pot which oscillates around the stems of a cradle secured to the side members of the chassis and in which moves a piston supporting the axles, the transmission of the movement of the driving axle to each driving spindle being effected by two toothed rings housed in a side casing, one of which is connected to the shaft motor and the other attached to the driving rocket.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.

Fig. 5 is a vertical section, on a larger scale, of the combination device showing the air suspension, the spring suspension and the side impact damper; Fig. 6 is a vertical section in a plane perpendicular to that of FIG. 5; Fig. 7 is a transverse horizontal section along the line II-II of FIG. 5; Fig. 8 is a cross section along the line III-III of FIG. 5;
Fig, 9 is a cross section along the line IV-IV of fig. 5, showing the cradle containing the suspension; Fig. 10 shows, by way of example, a rudimentary device for longitudinal shock absorber which applies to the point of attachment of the rods forming a parallelogram; Fig. 11 is a variant showing a longitudinal shock absorber device interposed on the path of the coupling between the axle and the frame.
This perfected arrangement selects the forces, separating those relating to the thrust from those resulting from the reaction to the engine torque and it respects the allelic bet effect of the displacements sought for the axle.
All the figures show the mixed suspension device in the absence of compressed air, the black air suspension inflated consequently.
In fig. 1, 2, 3, 4, the cross members of the frame soht designated by 1 and the side members by 2. The latter are interrupted to receive the cradle 3, of square shape, on which the suspension pot 4 is articulated so as to be able to rotate around a transverse horizontal axis in journals 5 and 6.
This arrangement for mounting in a cradle, at the same time as it allows the necessary pivoting of the pot 4, facilitates the adaptation of the device to any chassis, the side members 2 whatever their spacing and height can always be fixed in the correct position. by brackets and bolts on the useful surfaces of the cradle 3, on faces which are intentionally left of dimensions largely sufficient to allow the use of the device on all frames. The lower part 7 of the suspension device integral with the plunger piston is articulated towards the ends of the carrying axle 8.
The latter is curved, as shown in 9, and is provided at its ends with symmetrical boxes, one of which is represented at 10, and containing the mechanism for transmitting movement to the drive rockets 11 mounted on the end. of axle 8. The movement is imparted to these rockets by gears 12 in engagement with a gear 13 keyed on the shaft 14 of the driving axle 15.
Thanks to this method of attacking the driving curls 11, by the shaft 14 of the driving axle, the necessary spacing can be obtained between the driving axle and the carrying axle to allow the suspension pot to be inserted. - sion 4 and also the necessary heightening of the driving axle. facilitating the rational operation of the cardan transmission.
The housing of the differential shown schematically at 16 is provided with a transnrettuur shaft 17 to which the irrtcrurdiary shaft of the universal joint 18 articulated at 19 to the motor shaft is coupled.
The driving axle 15 and the carrying axle 8 are made integral, by their ends, with the boxes 10 serving as a housing for the transmission gears. Each (these boxes is hitched to the frame by the interrn (@ - diary of the rods 20, 21, 22 and 23. The .biellettes 2Ï) and 23 respectively articulated by ball joints 24 at the upper part of the boxes 10 come to embrace the fies' 5 and '51 ball joints mounted on consoles 26 and 261 integral with side members 2 .
The connecting rods 21 and 22 articulated at 27 in the bottom of the casings 10 are fixed by their other ends to ball joints 28 and 281 carried by two cranks 30 and 301 joined together by a pallet rack 29 which can pivot on it. even. If the carrier axle moves vertically, the rods 21 and 22 pivot around the axis 29 and the rods 20 and 23 around (the. Axis joining the center of the supports 25 and 251, this forms a parallelogram. Speak clearly.
On the other hand, if one of the housings 10, for example, lowers while the sy metric housing rises for some reason, the link 21 is moved rearward for example, causing the lifter 29 to pivot. on itself and printing a forward movement to the rod 22 and to.
casing sv ux # - crankcase Pï to which the other end of the driving axle is attached, a movement which is precisely equal to that which is necessary so that no overvoltage can be produced in the various components and whatever or the differences in deflection of the suspensions 4.
The transmission by means of the cardan shaft 18 is therefore much easier due to this is the case when the ordinary coupling device is used due to the almost constant parallelism which the shafts 17 and 19 retain during the oscillations.
The amplitude of the deflections of the carrier axle 8 can often be considerable, the driving axle 15 will be mounted upwards, so that the cardan shaft 18 takes the inclined position from bottom to top shown in the figure. 2 when the vehicle, in the absence of compressed air supplying the pneumatic system, rests only: on the Belleville spring, which causes it to occupy an approximately horizontal position when the car is in motion and the suspension is operating completely.
A thus reduces the average steering angle of the cardan intermediate shaft 18, since the latter oscillates on either side, from a horizontal position.
The fia. 5 shows the detail of an axial vertical section through the suspension pot 4. The latter is articulated by journals and 6 to the cradle 3 provided with bearings with ball bearings. This cradle has dimensions and arrangements such that it is possible to attach it to the side members of all cars, whatever the width and height of the car in question.
The pneumatic suspension shown is of the powered type provided with a regulating leak and a damping chamber occluded at a determined moment of the stroke of the plunger. Communication with the damping chamber (not shown) is established by a pipe 31 opening into an annular ring 32 surrounding the plunger 33.
In the thickness of the wall of the piston 33 is formed a hole 34 terminating, on the one hand, by a screw 35 axially pierced with a hole, on the other hand, by an orifice 36 constituting the regulating leak. . The end of the suspension pot 4 is provided with a crimped leather trim 37 (or equivalent), the tension of which can be adjusted by means of a ring 38 which can be tightened with fingers and another ring 39 engaging on a threaded portion of the suspension pot 4 which can be tightened more or less by rotation on itself.
When the orifice 36, due to the displacement of the plunger, exceeds the level of the crimp 37, the chamber above the piston is placed in communication with the atmosphere, which allows the compressed air6 to escape to the outside, the spring suspension device is interposed between the plunger piston g3 key to the pneumatic suspension and a part 40 sliding inside this piston.
This arrangement has the effect of ensuring the full operation of the pneumatic device even at the highest frequencies, regardless of the importance of the mass of the plunger in movement and, consequently, to provide the positive device with the maximum sensitivity. in all field circumstances. The elastic spring device consists of a stack of partially shown Belleville washers 41 resting, on the one hand, against the base of part 40 and resting, on the other hand, against the top of part 33.
The use of Belleville washers in this particular case has very important advantages. El n effect, their very small volume allows them to be housed concentrically inside the pneumatic system and, in the event of damage to one of them, the others never cease to function as springs and; to bear the load.
The guiding of the Belleville washers in the center of the part , 33 will be improved by means of the sleeve 1 42 serving, at the same time, as a slide for a piston 43 mounted on a rod 44 integral with the base of the part 40 and. intended to limit the relaxation of the Belleville spring. Lubrication is carried out by means of oil contained in the annular chambers 45, with compressed air, by turning the piston.
The piston is therefore constantly immersed in an oil bath which makes the sliding evening very smooth and prevents any jamming. In order to prevent the penetration of oil into the channel 34 through the orifice 36, when this orifice passes through the oil bath, use is made of a spherical valve 46 constantly forced back against the orifice of the oil bath. screw 35 by a spring 47; the compressed air contained in the tube 34 is therefore trapped and prevents the oil from entering, the exhaust of air at the atmosphere being free as soon as the orifice 'exceeds' the level of the crimped leather 37. The articulation of the lower part of the piston 40 with the carrier axle 8 takes place by means of binoculars 48, 49 and 50 (fig. 5, 6, 7 and 8) housed in a mortise 51 of the axle 8.
These binoculars respectively embrace pins 52, 53 and 54 supported on either side of the mortise in the axle and pins 55, 56 and 57 fixed in a part of the suspension 58 having a recess 59 and which is stuck between two lateral jaws 60 and 61 and as an extension of the piston 40. The pin 56 is arranged so as to operate by bolts at its ends the side jaws 60 and 61. Normally, the binocular 49 alone supports the weight of the vehicle , the recesses 62 and 63 receiving the axes 52 and 54 of the binoculars 48 and 50 extending slightly more upwards than the recess 64 of the binocular 49.
However, if the vehicle tends to tilt sideways to one side or the other, that is, if it is subject to roll, the suspension attached to the chassis tilts to the right or to the left. and its axis is no longer perpendicular to the axle 8. The binocular 49 then ceases to carry the load and it is the neighboring binocular 50 and its axis 54, for example, which replaces it, the plunger 40 of the suspension no longer rests on the axis 56, but on the axis 57, the elastic reaction of the suspension is no longer axial and tends to bring the frame back to its normal position.
This coupling arrangement by transverse binoculars from the axle to the suspensions, in addition to allowing the movements and deformations necessary for the independence of the play of the suspensions during their unequal bending, constitutes, under the control of gravity , a real dirty transverse suspension absorbing the side impacts to which the wheels are subjected while the car is in motion.
In fig. 9, at 65, is shown the adduction orifice for the compressed air feeder for the suspension, at 66 the automatic feed mechanism, at 67 the screw plug serving for the introduction of the suspension. lubricating oil. In section, in FIG. 10, one sees at 20 one of the articulation ball joints of the rods. This ball joint is trapped between two grains 68 with a concave footprint matching the spherical shape of the ball joint and applied by the springs 69 clamped in the tubular connecting rod 70 by the screw cap 71. The ball joint 20 pivots in the connecting rod by an oval window 72 in which it can play the necessary amount by compressing the res spells 69, under the action of the forces acting on the rods.
The longitudinal shocks result in displacements of the ball joint 20 in the window 72. This arrangement is moreover analogous to the arrangement commonly used for the steering heads in motor cars, however, the ball joints do not need to be play from such an important angle as in this application and the springs are much more powerful. A similar damper is disposed at one end of each link.
This realization does not allow a high damping efficiency. longitudinal impact, in fact, and depending on the direction of the forces, it happens that each of the rods is sometimes subjected to the sum, sometimes to the difference in pressures resulting from both the thrust and the reaction of the engine torque.
The variation in the forces applied to the springs is therefore considerable and the latter, being able to withstand the maximum pressure, lack the necessary elasticity when the pressure is reduced to the minimum. On the other hand, the damping stroke must be very small, otherwise, this would result in significant disturbances in the desired parallel movements, on the other hand, for the axle.
The device of FIG. It does not have these drawbacks. In this figure at 20, 21 and 22 are shown the rods such as the same ones in FIG. 2, the lower ones fitted with their compensating beam. The ball joints 25 and 28 are fixed to a star 73 carrying two pins 74 and 75. Two other pins 76 and 77 are fixed to the side member 2 of the chassis, the pins 74 and 76 and 75 and 77 are connected two by two by auxiliary links. liaires 78 and 79 forming an articulated parallelogram.
Finally, a ball joint 80 in the center of the star. is secured to the frame by the connecting rod 81 ending in a damper 82; analogous to that previously described in fig. 10 and fixed to the frame on a console 83.
The operation is as follows: Under the effect of the engine torque and the dif ferences in the pressures exerted by the connecting rods 21 and 20 which result from it, the star tends to rotate around the center 80, it is caught by the connecting rods 78 and 79 which thus transmit the torque reaction directly to the chassis. As for the thrust, whether positive or negative, "it results in a pressure or a tension on the connecting rod 81.
The assembly can therefore move parallel to itself, by acting on the absorber 82 and rotating around the centers 76 and 77, by any quantity necessary without the conditions of parallelism being modified; moreover, the power to be given to the springs of the shock absorber 82 happens to be exactly that required by the thrust.
