Device for filtering and purifying liquid fuels, mainly for automobiles. The invention relates to a device for filtering and purifying liquid fuels, mainly for automobiles, making it possible to initially obtain a flow of fuel filtered and purged of water, the separation being effected only by the play of densities. .
According to the invention, the device comprises a receptacle removably connected to a reservoir containing the liquid fuel and communicating with the receptacle by a relatively large diameter or opening, a screen being interposed between the reservoir and the receptacle to retain solid impurities. . In addition, the receptacle is provided with two valves, one of which communicates with the bottom of the receptacle and serves to draw the water deposited in the receptacle and to empty the reservoir, while the other, which controls a central tube arranged inside the receptacle and extending to the vicinity of the ta set and having in its upper part orifices for the passage of the purified fuel, serves for the distribution of the latter.
In the accompanying drawing, two embodiments of the object of the invention have been shown by way of example.
Fig. 1 shows the first embodiment in vertical section; Fig. 2 is an elevation, following a right-hand drawdown of 900; Figs. 3 to 5 show different detail parts; Fig. G represents a view of the second embodiment, partially in vertical section; Fig. 7 is a plan view, with some parts removed; Fig. 8 shows a detail along line b-b.
Referring to fig. 1-5 of the drawing, the device comprises a container 1 in the form of a bowl and adapted directly to the lower part of a tank R. This container 1 is provided with two taps 2 and 3. The net tap 2 serves as a distributor filtered and water purged gasoline; valve 3 is used to purge the appliance of the water contained therein, also to draw gasoline for all needs other than supplying the carburetor and allow the complete emptying of the tank R. This valve 3 communicates directly with the part la lower of container 1; water heavier than gasoline is always at the bottom.
The other so-called distribution valve 2 is in direct communication with a small vertical tube 4 passing through the center of the container and rising to the upper level thereof and a little below the bottom of the tank, this tube 4 is provided with upper orifices 4 ', through which only light gasoline free (the water, since this by its weight, descends to the bottom of the container and consequently well below the level of flow of this tube.
When the filtering of gold dirt, foreign bodies, it is done through a filter oh sieve 5 placed at the upper part of the device, just above the central tube 4 of supply or flow of gasoline. The receptacle 1 is attached directly to the reservoir, see R by means of a ring (threaded at its outer part, and the interior of which is the diameter of the receptacle to provide a large opening for communication with the reservoir R.
This ring 6 is fixed in any way to the reservoir and receives the receptacle itself by means of a nut 7, all of which is said to be the so-called “3-piece connection” which makes disassembly easy.
This is obtained without the aid of a key, the assembly nut 7 being provided with journals 8 which form projections and which allow tightening by hand. In addition, these journals being drilled with holes, the small tightening be obtained by using any pin, nail or rod.
The device described is more efficient and much superior to all other so-called devices: filters, feeders, etc., placed between the tank and the carburetor. These are intended to filter the gasoline and prevent water from reaching the carburetor, but if there is any dirt in the gasoline, see even a grain of weld or metal in the tank. which comes to be placed in the small starting orifice, the pipe is blocked and gasoline does not arrive, which determines the failure and the obligation to dismantle the pipe.
With the device described, apart from the certainty of having gasoline well filtered and purged of water, the gasoline can be poured directly into the tank without special precautions or filtered with an ordinary funnel; any dirt is caught by and retained on the screen filter 5 of the apparatus, which having a large surface area, retains the dirt while allowing gasoline to pass through.
According to fig. 6 to 8 shows a device allowing, in addition to the advantages which have just been described, to effectively close the reservoir so that the container can be dismantled in the event of a necessary visit. This sealing is obtained by a valve 9 finding its seat on a lapping 10 of the ring 6 welded to the tank R.
To determine the opening of the valve 9 for the flow of fuel, or the closure of the orifice in question, the following device has been devised: The valve 9 carries in its center a ball 11 engaged in the horizontal branch 12 of a bracket articulated at 13 on a boss 14 provided inside the ring 6.
This square, as shown in fig. 8, offers in its vertical branch 1: ï a yoke 16, fig. 8, in which engages a ball 17 forming the end of a screw 18 screwing into the actual body of the ring 6 and having a sealing cone 19 when the screw is locked.
As the ring 6, carrying the mechanism which has just been described, is fixed to the reservoir R, it will be possible at any time to disassemble the receptacle 1 without any loss of fuel or emptying the reservoir.
The valve 9 is shown in the open state in FIG. 6 and the screw 18 fully screwed on its boss to ensure the sealing in this place by its cone 19. When removing the filter, the same screw 18 is unscrewed, the square moves on its articulation and the valve 9 sticks to its seat 10 intercepting any flow of fuel contained in the tank.
In addition, the receptacle 1 forms a small reserve of gasoline and avoids the interruption of the supply, when the tank is almost empty and the inclination of the road returns the gasoline to the other end of the tank.
