Machine for the shaping of plates with using fluids under pressure. The present invention relates to a machine for shaping plates, (eg metal sheets, sheets of leather, fibrous materials, etc.) < B> to using pressurized fluid. This machine is of the type comprising an expandable bag into which the pressurized fluid is sent and which then acts on the plate to change its shape. It has been observed that with such a bag the continual internal stresses resulting from repeated expansion and contractions of the bag under great pressure cause it to wear out and break rapidly, particularly at certain points such as the sides of the bag.
This results in frequent renewals of the bags, which constitutes an expensive factor in the installation.
The machine according to the invention is characterized in that the bag has an opening in its wall, which is closed when the <bag is in operation, and which allows the bag to expand without the latter having to </ B > undergo excessive strain.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, an embodiment, intended for the shaping of the sheet metal corner panels of automobile frames, the upper block being in its raised position. This embodiment comprises an upper movable block forming a matrix and a fixed lower block serving as a support for the expandable bag.
Fig. 1 is a side view, partially in section; Fig. 2 is a plan of the lower block and the parts it supports ,, y including the expandable bag intended to receive the pressurized fluid - Fig. 3 is a larger scale to cross section of the expandable bag; Fig. 4 is an end view, partially in section, of FIG. 1, the top block being lowered and a sheet of metal being in position to be shaped.
The expandable sa * c is shown in the collapsed position; Fig. 5 is a cross section of the lower part of fig. 4, showing the inflatable bag inflated and the sheet forced into the forming chamber by the pressure of the fluid. The numbers 2 and 3 denote a fixed pulley and an idle pulley mounted on the a-bre4. The latter carries a bevel gear 6 which actuates a bevel gear 7 fixed on the shaft 8 of an endless screw.
The worm 9 is engaged with a helical toothed wheel 11 fixed on titi main shaft 12, which thus receives titi slow actuation and powerful. The shaft 12 rotates in bearings of the head pieces 13 which are supported by guides Il starting from a foundation 15. On the shaft 12 are wedged eccentrics 16 each of which is attached to the upper end of a connecting rod 17 which is capable of receiving easy adjustment to with step of screws 18 practiced to right and to left and of
19 holes for the rotation of these threads. The lower end of each connecting rod rotates on a pivot 21) carried by a frame 30 fixed to the upper shaping block '25 which is nieut along the guides 14 .
The lower surface 21 of the shaping block is curved longitudinally. It presents the shaping chamber 212, and carries a descending lip 23 surrounding the shaping chamber. This lip has the shape of the edge of the chamber and its straight section is square and has a lower sharp edge 24.
Below the shaping block is the lower block 26. This block rests on the 15 foundation and small, if desired, be able ble to move slightly either laterally or longitudinally to be able to be quickly brought into alignment with the upper block. The upper surface 27 said lower block is also curved lengthwise.
A outside the lower block is a tap 29 controlling the water inlet pipe 31 which communicates with a passage 32 leading in the center of the upper sui-face of the lower block.
A discharge pipe 33 also communicates with this passage, and it is provided with a Lin manometer 34 and a discharge valve 36 to empty the bag when the sheet metal has been shaped. The expandable 37 bag is made of strong rubber, canvas or other flexible ble or elastic material; it is closed on all sides and is provided at its bottom with Lin orifice 49 to receive titi ijutage 1) 9 water inlet, this nozzle is screwed to the lower block.
The 37 bag presents. a relatively large opening 50 ; this opening may be elliptical, circular or other in shape and crosses the wall of the bag perpendicularly as shown in fig. 3. The opening 50 is covered by an outer sheet 51 of rubber or other suitable flexible material resting on the top of the bag . This sheet is much larger than the opening 50, so that it covers the edges thereof for a certain distance.
Across this opening and inside the interior of the bag is a sheer sheet 52 of a suitable flexible strap. This sheet is also larger than the opening 50 and is apart similar to the top sheet, but smaller, so that it can easily be inserted into the bag. and cry be withdrawn. This inner sheet and this Top sheet Are petulated by a bridge 53 which passes freely through the opening 50 and is attached to the sheets to the 'help of # io, i, metallic afes 54.
The edges of the leaves are bevelled as seen in 60 to form a joint water Channel at all of these edges and to prevent formation wrinkles in the sheet when the pressure is produced in the the bag.
The leaves and the bridge 53, constructed as just indicated, constitute for the opening 50 a flexible closure and the part of the bag which surrounds this opening can be move freely in the annular space formed between the upper sheet and the lower sheet, so that when pressure is produced in the bag, this part of the small bag will slide outward between the two sheets. This enlarges the opening 50 and allows the bag to expand without undue effort into the material from which it is formed.
A collar 55 directed upwards, with a conical surface 56. This collar can also be formed around the fluid inlet hole 49 at the bottom of the bag. be made in one piece with the bag or attached to it and, as a result of its conical surface, it presses against the nozzle 39 for faith-mer a liquid-tight seal around the nozzle when pressurized water is admitted to the bag.
The elastic bag rests on a protective sheet 41 of rubber, fabric or other material which itself rests on the upper surface of the lower block and which has its edges curved upwards along the sides of the bag to prevent those - these are damaged. A hole is formed in the middle of this sheet for the wise passage of the 39 nozzle ending in the bag.
On the upper face of the lower block is a pad or cushion 41 made of rubber or another flexible material. The inner edge 43 of this cushion is the same as the edge of the chamber of the upper block and surrounds the elas bag - # * On this cushion rests a metal frame 46 on which the sheet 45 is placed to </ B> treat. The top surface or gripping surface 40 of this frame is shaped like the curvature of the surface 21. The inner edge of this frame is provided with a sharp edge 47 which exactly matches at the ridge 24 of the chamber of the upper block under which this ridge is arranged. The frame 46 is hand held in position by tabs 48.
We can see that the cushion 44 forms an elastic seat for the frame 46, which allows the latter to yield slightly downwards and allow the metal 45 to slide towards the interior between the ironing frame and the upper block when the hydraulic pressure is applied.
If desired, the ironing frame and pad 44 shown can be omitted, and a like result is obtained by placing a pad of rubber or the like on top of the upper block 25 </ B > (for example between this block and the frame 30) or between the lower block 26 and the base 15. This allows Lin certain elastic movement between the opposing sliding surfaces formed by the upper block and the lower block, so that the sheet can slide inward between the blocks when pressure is applied.
- During operation, the sheet is first greased or lubricated and it is then placed at the top of the bag 37 and between the two blocks 25, 26, the upper block, in which the shaping chamber 22 is formed, then being lowered onto the sheet metal, the edge of which is gripped between the two blocks. The eccentrics are then at their lower dead center and the block Upper is thus prevented from moving - towards up when pressurized fluid is admitted.
By adjusting the length of the connecting rods with the devices provided, it is possible to adjust the intensity of the clamping on the sheet 45 and take into account the different thicknesses of the sheets; water or another pressurized fluid is then admitted into the bag 37, which forces it to to expand and push back the sheet in the top block shaping cavity 22. A As the pressure increases in the bag, the portion of the bag surrounding the opening 50 slides outward between the inner sheet and the outer sheet,
which enlarges the opening and allows the bag to expand freely without excessive stress occurring in the material of which the bag is formed. The pressure increase inside the interior of the bag also automatically forms a tight seal around the opening 50 by the fact that the outer surface of the sheet inner surface is pressed against the inner surface of the bag and the inner surface of the outer sheet is pressed against the outer face of the bag.
A relatively small amount of water can escape from the bag through this opening, but this is not a problem for the shaping operation. The opening 49 is also clamped around the nozzle 39 by the pressure of the fluid against the conical surface 56, as indicated above. The pressurized water is thus retained inside the interior of the bag until there pressure is interrupted by the closing of the valve 29, < / B> the water then escapes through the pipe 32 and the discharge pipe 33 and through the opening 50 of the bag which returns to its normal state.
The upper block is then lifted and the sheet metal is removed; the edge of the sheet folded outwards can then be detached from the shaped part, with using suitable tools.
It has been noticed that for the shaping of small articles such as household plates, etc., it is sometimes possible to eliminate the elastic closure constituted by the parts 51, 52 and 53, </ B > the edge of the opening 50 being forced outwards against the sheet by the pressure of the fluid in such a way that the escape of water through this opening in a large gap is prevented.
With the arrangement of the present invention, the forces undergone by the bag as a result of repeated contractions and dilations are greatly reduced and the life of the bag is thus greatly increased.
