Reversible Propeller . The invention relates to reversible propellers of the type in which the angle of inclination of the propeller blades can be varied with respect to to the axis of the propeller shaft, from way to be able to reverse the. propulsion direction of the ship or other vehicle on which the propeller is mounted.
The object of the invention is to obtain a new arrangement of the means acting on the blades of the propeller, these means having to be powerful, efficient, very safe, and having to make it possible to turn the blades in any direction and to maintain them automatically in the desired position.
The invention comprises the combination of each propeller blade with -a gear engin ing, at two opposite points, with two pins mounted on a shaft to which they are connected by means of tabs which they carry and which penetrate into helical grooves, to right and to left, made on the shaft, so that a longitudinal movement (the latter prints angular movements opposed to the pinions that he carries and thus turns the blades of the angle, desired.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, given to by way of example, Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation, and FIG. 2, an end view of an embodiment of the object of the invention.
The same reference letters in both views indicating the same parts. In the example shown in the drawing, the propeller hub is made in three parts-, the p # trtie a is engaged on the hollow control shaft b, part c , which carries the d blades and their reversing mechanism, is screwed on the first part, and the third part is screwed in the second part. The outer shape of the propeller hub can be any.
A inside the hollow shaft b mentioned above is arranged a shaft f in which grooves are made g helical, right and left, intended for the passage of tabs. This central shaft passes to through the propeller hub and carries two bevel gears h and i fitted with tongues passing through the aforementioned grooves. On each blade d of the propeller is keyed a pinion which meshes, at two opposite points, with the two pinions h and i above.-indicated (, s. A rod f, connected < B> to tree f,
is used to make this last turn and to give it a back and forth motion.
With a construction and arrangement such as those described above, when printing to the central shaft f a longitudinal movement, the two gears It and i carried by this shaft are turned at an equal angle in opposite directions and the blades of the propeller also rotate. These blades can be turned to any position and allow any forward and reverse speed to be obtained. reverse. Due to the arrangement of the two pinions on the shaft f, the propeller blades are held automatically in any position and no torque is transmitted by them to this tree.
The propeller can be moved either by the hollow shaft and the central shaft together, or by one or the other. In the example shown in the drawing, the le part is connected to the machine's control tree or to its equivalent and the 'end of the shaft b is keyed in this part k. The, rod f' passes through through a disc w fixed to a collar n by means of rods o which pass through holes drilled in the disc m which they rotate as well as the rod f. A suitable fork, or any other equivalent part, moved by by hand or by any force, acts on the collar n and moves the shaft longitudinally f to modify the angular position of the propeller blades.
To increase the resistance of the propeller blades, each of them is journaled on each side of the pinion, as shown in the drawing. To put the blades in position, they are engaged in the hub and the conical pinions, the latter being pinned so to prevent unscrewing.
? P The propeller is easy to assemble and to handle to obtain the overturn or to control the speed; the blades are not subject to to be separated from the hub or to to be twisted during the operation. It can be used in fans and vacuum cleaners, as well as for other purposes.
Instead of operating the propeller from the side of the engine to reverse its blades, it is possible to operate it from the opposite side, in this case the propeller shaft b will be full.
