Cette dernière est taillée en rampe héli coïdale v à celle de ses extrémités qui est opposée au fond v' et s'appuie par cette ex trémité sur une pièce iv, assujettie à un guide cylindrique x sur lequel la douille v peut tourner-et qui est fixé au tableau z du véhi cule à proximité de la main du conducteur;
Fuel saver for explosion engines. The object of the invention is a fuel saver for automotive vehicle explosion engines.
It comprises, like the previous embodiments of the economizer described in the disclosure of the invention of the main Swiss patent no 95275, two organs controlling in a manner entirely independent from one another at least one light. in communi cation, on the one hand, with the atmosphere, on the other hand, with a supply line of the engine in explosive mixture, these two parts being actuated one by hand, the other at the foot by the driver of the motor vehicle so that he can vary in two ways the admissions of atmospheric air by this light, one of them also constantly tending to cut off the communication between the atmosphere and driving under the action a spring,
but can be prevented by the driver acting on a pedal.
But it differs from it in that the pedal is arranged in the immediate vicinity of a second pedal, which controls a clutch device connecting the engine of the vehicle to the engine parts of the latter and which must be pressed to disengage the clutch, so that the foot goes directly from one of the pedals to the other, both when engaging and when disengaging.
From this arrangement of the pedals results the following advantage: When the driver of a road vehicle is in full normal gear, and uses the economizer continuously by acting on the pedal of the second control member, he can being called upon to abruptly disengage the driving components, the wheels, the engine. As the first control member of its economizer is then in a position such that it more or less completely releases the port (s) and that a significant air intake takes place through them, the explosive mixture supplied to the disengaged motor would be too rich in air and this one could stop turning.
However, in order to be able to apply pressure on the pedal of the clutch device for the purpose of disengaging, the driver is obliged to use the foot with which he previously weighed on the pedal of the second control member; this, immediately and automatically, allows this second control member to come to the position where it cuts off the communication between the atmosphere and the pipe, so that the admission of atmospheric air ceases immediately by the lights , whatever the position of the first control member, that the explosive mixture does not become too rich in air and that the engine continues to run without incident, ready to be coupled again to the engine components.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the economiser, applied to a road motor vehicle.
Fig. 1 is an overall section of this embodiment; Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the vehicle table.
On the pipe (not shown) connecting the carburetor to the engine is fixed a flange r integral with an annular chamber s provided with a pipe e serving for the admission of atmospheric air into it. In the neck connecting the flange r to the chamber s is screwed a threaded bulb F of a cylinder 7c having two lights Z @; these comprise. each from right to left a rectangular part of small surface, as well as a circular part of large surface and are located inside the chamber s, so that they can be put in relation with the atmosphere through the tubing if.
The first control member is constituted by a slide t slide on the cylinder dre 7c and constantly tending to hide the two lights l 'under the action of a spring ii, bearing on a cover kg of the cylinder k. It can nevertheless be brought to discover more or less the lights l 'by a Bowden transmission comprising a flexible tractor wire i and a flexible sheath h , but not very compressible axially. The wire i is fixed, on the one hand, to an ear t 'of t, on the other hand, to the knurled bottom v' of a cylindrical sleeve v.
The latter is cut in a helical ramp coidal v to that of its ends which is opposite to the bottom v 'and is supported by this end on a part iv, subject to a cylindrical guide x on which the sleeve v can turn - and which is attached to the vehicle's z panel near the driver's hand;
by acting on the sleeve v, the latter therefore axially moves the drawer t. The. part w presents a spout w 'which can engage in a cutout of a series of cutouts v3 of the ramp v2 and thus maintain the sleeve v in the corresponding position despite the opposing force of the spring? r. The sheath takes it ap pui at one of its ends on the cover 7c3 by means of a nut g, at the other directly in the bottom of a cavity x 'of the guide x.
When the second control member, it is closed by a piston 1 eylindro-conical, moving inside the cylinder k. It tends to be pushed to the right by a res out 2 to both mask the ports l 'and to be applied on a frustoconical seat 7c4 formed at the junction of the cylinder le and the pipe k'; it then cuts the communication between the atmosphere and the pipe in two straight lines.
It can, however, be moved away from this closed position by the tracer wire 3 belonging to a Bowden 3-4 transmission, the second end of which is attached to a pivoting arm 5 integral with the pedal 6, pivoted on the floor 7. found at the bottom of table z. The sheath 4 of the transmission is supported, on the one hand, by means of a nut 8 on the bottom 7c3, on the other hand, directly on a guide support 9 fixed to the floor 7.
As seen in fig. 4, the pedal 6 is placed immediately to the left of the pedal 10 controlling the device for engaging the driving wheels with the engine and having to be pressed by the left foot of the driver for the disengagement; to the right of the pedal 10 is immediately placed the tube 11 of the steering device, so that when the left foot abandons this pedal 10, it places itself naturally and directly on the pedal 6 and vice versa.
The operation of this form of execution is as follows: When starting the engine, the driver can have his left foot on pedal 10; the result is that the piston 1 cuts off all communication between the atmosphere and the pipe and that an explosive mixture which is relatively poor in air is supplied to said motor. When the latter is well started and it is necessary to engage the driving wheels, the driver gives up pedal 10 and. fitting naturally on pedal 6 immediately on the left. In doing so, he pulls the piston 1 to the left which completely releases the ports 11.
This same driver is therefore free to admit, during normal engine operation, a greater or lesser quantity of atmospheric air in the pipe by operating the knurled bottom v 'and maintaining it in the chosen position by means of the nozzle w '. In this way the desired economy is obtained in the consumption of liquid fuel during normal operation.
If the driver is called upon to disengage the engine, abruptly or not, for a road accident, for a flexible change of speed, it is necessary for him to give up pedal 6, so that the lights are completely blocked. piston 1 and cessation of the admission of atmospheric air into the pipe, to press pedal 10 with the same foot. The engine then receives a fuel-rich mixture and is not at risk of stopping running, contrary to what could arise if it continued to be supplied with a relatively lean fuel mixture while disengaged.
The spring 2 and the pedal 6 are established so that the sole weight of the left foot on the second maintains the piston I in the open position; the foot therefore does not have to do much for this purpose and does not get tired. so that the embodiment shown can be used even when driving around town.
This pedal 6 can moreover be actuated so as to complete the adjustment of the additional air intake obtained by means of the knurled bottom v 'and the precise positions given to it; we look for the largest opening of the lights that can be obtained from the drawer t for an economical operation at high speed of the vehicle, then we leave this drawer in the given position and we proceed to the small variations of this required opening by the route followed by pressing more or less strongly on the pedal 6.
The economizer can be used to brake the engine engaged on the drive wheels on descents by allowing admission into. this atmospheric air motor which is partially compressed therein, then expelled.
The position of the pedal 6 relative to the pedal 10 may vary depending on where the driver of the vehicle naturally puts his foot when he leaves this pedal 10..
