Method and apparatus for the recovery of suspended solids from waste water from paper mills and other similar industries. The recovery of suspended matter from the waste water of paper mills and other similar industries, has hitherto been carried out according to two distinct processes: 11, the settling process and the capture process based on the application of the machine. known in papermaking under the name, round machine "comprising a permeable rotating drum through which the treatment water flows while the materials picked up by the drum are rectieillie by a roller or felt in contact with the drum.
The settling process requires, as is well known, particularly bulky apparatus; furthermore, since settling takes place under satisfactory conditions only at absolute rest, the efficiency of the apparatus is very minimal.
The process acting by capture has the drawback of giving products in a semi-solid form, products which are stored for subsequent reuse and deteriorate by contamination and fermentation to the point of not being able to be reused in the manufacture of fine papers. ; in addition, the devices used are subjected to strong wear, the pick-up roller or felt rubbing continuously and with pressure on the fabric of the rotating drum.
The present invention relates to a process allowing the immediate and continuous recovery, in the fresh state and in liquid form, of the products in suspension in the residual water.
According to this process, the stream of water to is divided into a main stream and a secondary stream, separating the matter in suspension in the main stream, and continuously returning them to the stream. secondary, which brings them to the place of reclamation.
In the practical realization of this process, the accumulation by sieving of the suspended matter is carried out preferably as in the collection process mentioned above by means of a permeable rotating drum but with this essential difference that the material accumulated on it. the drum is continually detached from it by the action of jets of pressurized fluid (water, air, fear etc.), action which determines the re-entry of the material into the secondary current or recovery current.
To carry out this process, we can use an apparatus which holds at both the decanter and the round machine, and includes a bottom container. in hopper, provided with an adjustable passage exhaust duct for the secondary current charged with the recovered material accumulated in the apparatus, and titi rotary screening drum through which escapes the main water flow - barred products in suspension.
The rotating screening drum takes care of these materials, which accumulate on its permeable periphery and thus in some way form an additional filtering layer: these materials, however, are continuously detached from the surface of the filter. drum by 11 the ac- tion of auxiliary jets of a pressurized fluid, water for example, which brings them back to the secondary current which escapes through the pipe connected to the bottom of the apparatus.
The attached drawing shows to by way of example, one embodiment of this apparatus.
Fig. 1 gives a transverse section ci] elevation of the apparatus and fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken by line A-B in FIG. 1 ; fig. 3 is a quick shot.
The apparatus shown comprises ni) resi- pient 1 of rectangular faith for example, the bottom of which is formed by inclined walls 2 forming a hopper connected to a 3 pipe fitted with a flow control valve. In this container rotates a perforated drum 4, formed for example of a wire mesh.
This drum is closed on one side by a solid wall 5 supported by a end of axis 6 rotating in a support on the outside the container. A the other end, this perforated drum 4 forms a collar 7 of large diameter resting on rolling rollers 8. This collar 7 opens above a channel for the drainage of water.
The tain- bour 4 is rotated by ii ii helical gear 10 mounted on the shaft end 6 and controlled by a worm 11 < / B> mounted on a shaft, 12 on which is fixed an eccentric 13 controlled by a fork 14, titi lever 15 attacking by < B> 16, by a buttonhole 17 bare pin 18 fixed on bare rod 19 forming the extension of the sliding tube 20 in titi support 21 carried by the tank 1. This pipe is held, at its other end,
by titi bracket 292, sliding in titi sup port 23 also carried by the tank 1. This bracket 22 < / B> door to its turn Lit) pipe 24 extending longitudinally to end of perforated drum 4.
The eccentric lever 15 swivels in a fixed support '25 so to take, under the action of </ B > Eccentric 13, successive inclinations before the bridge - effect of communicating a back and forth movement to the pipes '-) 0 and 24, in the longitudinal direction of the drum 4. The liquid to treat is introduced into the tank 1, in a channel 26 formed by a partition 27. On the opposite side to this partition 27, the tank 1 contains a second partition 2.8 forming a titi duct 29 s 'extending to the bottom of the bottom 2.
The vertical wall 28 carries to its upper part a wall 30, articulated in 31 and connected by titi arm fixed 32 to titi float 33 floating in the liquid contained in the tank. This is also provided with an overflow duct 34.
The apparatus works in the following way: The water to to be treated, constantly arriving through the channel 26, which has a bridge of break the current, passes into the main chamber 35 formed by the tank 1. In this chamber, the current is divided into two parts; one, forming the main stream, passes through the metal mesh or the perforations of the drum 4 and flows through the cylindrical extension, formed by the collar 7, into the channel 9; the other part, forming the secondary stream, escapes through the pipe 3 in an amount regulated by the valve placed in this pipe.
If we assume the chamber 35 filled with water to to be treated, the part constituting the excess water to < / B> remove by passing through the perforated drum 4. deposit the excess material that it contains on this drum. This drum ô so rotated by the screw Il and the gear 10 is covered over its entire periphery with a layer of solid products , which after having circulated with the drum in the direction indicated by the arrow 36, presents itself under the water jets 37 and 38 which escape through the orifices of the pipes 20 and 24 to the outside and to the inside of the perforated drum 4 over the entire length of this one.
These water jets detach this layer of material from the wire mesh of the drum 4 and this detached material passes over the inclined partition 30 in the duct 29 to join the secondary stream of the recovered water which escapes through the pipe 3. This stream of water is consequently loaded with the recovered materials which are returned to the stream for papermaking.
During operation, the materials which stick to the fabric of the drum 4, form an obstacle to the passage of new elements contained in the water so that this obstacle increases the sifting power of the drum, forming automatically on its canvas, an additional filter layer. The sifting power of the drum is thus enhanced. The detachment action produced by the jets 87 and 38, is favored by the axial movement of the pipes 20 and 24, obtained by the command the eccentric 13 and the lever 15.
The sloping wall 30 does not have to be used. This partition is intended to prevent, when the water is loaded with material in too high a proportion, that the material detached from the drum by the action of the jets 37 and 38, < / B> are picked up immediately by the drum and do not instantly fill the canvas which has just been cleaned, to the point of making it too little permeable. In practice, the action of this inclined wall 80 is automatically adjustable thanks to to its cooperation with the float 33.
To this end, the partition 30 rests in its most inclined position, on cleats 39 placed on the end walls of the tank 1 < / B> so to prevent it from rubbing on the drum pad. As the float 33 follows the variations in the level of the water being treated, this float gives to the wall 30 variable inclinations according to the action efficiency of the sieve drum 4. If this sieve drum is too clogged with material and no longer allows sufficient water to pass to filter from the main stream, the level rises in the tank 1. As the float rises, since it is rigidly connected to the partition 30, tilts this partition and brings it closer to the.
drum 4 thus ensuring the evacuation through the channel 29 of all the material detached from the drum. On the other hand, if the water to to be treated contains relatively little suspended matter -. And the efficiency of the screening drum 4 is thereby reduced, the level of the liquid in the tank 1 remains relatively low so that the partition 30 tends to to straighten up under the action of the float 33 and to stand in line with the vertical partition 28. In this case, the material released by the jets 37 and 38 goes directly into the main stream and at least partially clogs up, the cleaned fabric thus increasing the filtering action of this fabric.
In the event that, for whatever reason, the water level to exceeds the maximum allowed level, the water, in small excess, will escape through the overflow 34.
The liquid or fluid, used for cleaning. the surface of the sieve drum 4 need not necessarily be water. This liquid can also be replaced by any other pressurized fluid, for example, by steam or air.
