Abstract
Un método para concentrar mineral de laterita de níquel, que incluye las etapas de agregar cloruro de calcio (24) y un reductante (22) al mineral, calcinar (20) el mineral, estando presente el cloruro de calcio en una cantidad que es insuficiente para hacer la transferencia substancial de níquel a una fase de carbono, pero suficiente para promover la formación de níquel reducido en una forma magnética, recuperando el níquel reducido como una fracción magnética (30) por medio d separación magnética (28) y fundir la fracción magnética en un horno de arco eléctrico de CD (36) para producir un producto de ferroníquel (38).
