Abstract

La invención se refiere a un sistema de ablación de placas guiadas por imágenes que tiene aplicaciones para la ablación o reducción de la placa vascular no invasivamente, que comprende varios dispositivos interconectados técnicamente, así como a un dispositivo controlador para su uso y a un método para su utilización. El método, que hace uso de todas las características técnicas y ventajas del sistema o aparato comprende las etapas de obtener una imagen de por lo menos una parte de un cuerpo de mamífero para producir una imagen; determinar la localización de por lo menos una placa vascular en dicha imágen; identificar la localización de la base de dicha placa vascular, siendo dicha localización de la base la localización diana; determinar con exactitud la posición relativa de dicha localización diana con respecto al ritmo cardíaco en el cuerpo; administrar un haz de ondas energéticas de ultrasonidos a partir de una fuente a una posición relativa con el fin de elevar la temperatura de dicha localización diana de una manera predeterminada; realizar el seguimiento de la temperatura de la localización diana; e interrumpir la administración de ondas energéticas de ultrasonidos al alcanzar dicha localización diana una temperatura determinada prefijada.
