Abstract

Sole plate of an iron made of steel sheet is coated with a protective layer or heat-resistant plastics matl. e.g. PTFE by applying to the sole plate first a corrosion-resistant layer of Cu, then a Ni-Cr layer. Before coating with the temp.-resistant plastics matl., the surface of the Ni-Cr layer is sand blasted so that it is hammered into the Cu layer underneath over its whole surface area. The recesses which are thus formed in the Cu and Ni-Cr layers are subsequently filled with the plastics matl. so that, when the plastics coating wears away, the plastics matl. is still present in the recesses, which improves the sliding props. of the sole plate.
