Description
Es ist bekannt, Cycloolefine wie Cyclobuten, Cyclopenten
oder Cycloocten mit Katalysatoren aus Verbindungen von Nebengruppenmetallen der Gruppen IVb,
Vb und VIb und Organometall- oder Metallhydridverbindungen
von Metallen der Gruppen Ia, Ha, IHa und Alkylhydridverbindungen der Gruppe IVa des Periodensystems
der Elemente (Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 47. Auflage, 1966, Seiten B-3, Chemical Rubber
Cop-,p. Cleveland, Ohio, USA) unter Ringöffnung zu
linearen, ungesättigten Polymeren zu polymerisieren.
Weiterhin ist bekannt, Cycloolefine des obengenannten Typs mit Polymerisationsanregern aus Molybdän-
und Wolframsalzen und Aluminiumtrihalogeniden ringöffnend zu polymerisieren. Polymerisiert man in Masse
bis zu hohen Umsätzen, so erhält man technisch unbrauchbare, vernetzte Produkte. Bei der Polymerisation
in Lösung sind bisher die Ausbeuten und Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten ungenügend. Zwar ergeben
sauerstoff- oder schwefelhaltige Verbindungen als Cokatalysatoren bessere Ausbeuten, jedoch zeigen
diese Systeme für ein technisches Verfahren große Nachteile, weil es zu sehr langen Induktionszeiten und
unregelmäßigem Polymerisationsablauf kommt. Die Verwendung von Lösungsmitteln ist jedoch bei
technischen Polymerisationsverfahren notwendig, um Gelbildung zu vermeiden, die durch Belegung der
Reaktoroberfläche zu langwierigen Reinigungsoperationen führt, die Wärmeabführung behindert und die
Ströinungsverhältnisse unkontrollierbar gestaltet.
Aus der DE-AS 12 99 868 ist es bekannt, daß von den obenerwähnten Katalysatorsystemen solche aus Molybdänsal/en
und aluminiumorganischen Verbindungen cis-Polypentenamer und solche aus Wolfram-. Zirkon-
oder Titansalzen trans-Polypentaenamer ergeben.
In der DE-OS 19 19 046 wird ein Verfahren zur to
Herstellung von Cyclopentenpolymerisaten beschrieben,
bei dem ein Katalysator aus Wolffamhexachlorid,
einem Zinnalkyl» oder ^arylhydrid und einem Cokatalysator
verwendet wird. Die damit hergestellten Polypen* tenamere besitzen einen trans-Doppelbindungsgehalt
von 90% oder mehr.
Es Wurde nun überraschenderweise gefunden, daß mit Katalysatorsystemen, die geeignete zinnorganische
Verbindungen enthalten, Polyalkenamere erhalten werden, bei denen u. a. der eis- und trans-Doppelbindungsgehalt
durch Variation der Polymerisationstemperatur beliebig eingestellt werden kann.
Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Homopoiymerisation von ungesättigten
alicyclischen Verbindungen mit 4, 5, 7 oder mehr Ringkohlenstoffatomen und mindestens einer olefinischen
Doppelbindung im Ring in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels und eines Katalysatorsystems aus einem
Halogenid oder Oxihalogenid von Molybdän oder Wolfram und metallorganischen Zinnverbindungen,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als metallorganische Zinnverbindungen solche der allgemeinen Formel
XnSnR4.,,
wobei R einen Alkyl-, Aryl- oder Alkylarylrest bedeutet,
X Fluor, Chlor, Brom oder Jod ist und π 0, ,2 oder 3 bedeutet, mit gegebenenfalls Wasser, Diäthyläther,
Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxan, Bis-(2-chloräthyI)-äther, Thiophen, Tetramethyläthylendiamin oder Triphenylphosphin
als Cokatalysator eingesetzt werden.
Für die Polymerisation gemäß Erfindung sind als Monomere cyclische Olefine mit 4, 5 oder 7 oder mehr
Ringkohlenstoffatomen, z. B. Cyclobuten, Cyclopenten, Cyclohepten, Cycloocten oder Norbornen geeignet.
Als Wolfram oder Molybdänhalogenide oder -oxyhalogenide kommen insbesondere die Fluoride, Chloride,
Bromide und Jodide bzw. die entsprechenden Oxyverbindungen in Frage. Beispiele hierfür sind:
MoBr2, MoBr3, MoBr4, MoCl j, MoCI4,
M0CI5, MoF6, WBr2, WBr5, WBr6,
WCI2, WCI4, WCI5, WCI6, WF6, WJ2, VZJ4,
MoOCI4, MoOF4, WOBr4. WOCU, WOF4.
Besonders geeignet als Bestandteil a) des Katalysatorsystems ist ein Halogenid oder Oxyhalogenid von Wolfram bzw. Molybdän mit der Oxidationsstufe sechs (W6+) bzw. fünf (Mo5 + ).

Besonders geeignet als Bestandteil a) des Katalysatorsystems ist ein Halogenid oder Oxyhalogenid von Wolfram bzw. Molybdän mit der Oxidationsstufe sechs (W6+) bzw. fünf (Mo5 + ).
Die metallorganischen Zinnverbindungen, die im erfindungsgemäßen Katalysatorsystem die Komponente
b) darstellen, leiten sich bevorzugt von der allgemeinen Formel

ab, in der R einen Alkyl- (vorzugsweise 1 —20 C-Atome), Aryl- oder Alkylarylrest und X ein Halogen (F, Cl, Br, J)
sein kann und η = 0,1,2,3 bedeutet.

Durch Zusatz einer Lewisbase wird im allgemeinen

Durch Zusatz einer Lewisbase wird im allgemeinen
die Aktivität des beschriebenen Katalysatorsystems aus
a) und b) noch Weiter gesteigert. Besonders geeignet als
Cokatalysatoren sind
Wasser, Diäthyläther,
Bis*(2'chloräthyl)'äther,
Tetrahydrofuran, 1,4'Dioxan, Thiophen,
Triphenylphosphin und
Tetramethyläthylendiamin.
Wasser, Diäthyläther,

Tetramethyläthylendiamin.
Für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren geeignete Lösungsmittel sind aliphatische oder cycloaliphatische
Kohlenwasserstoffe, mit 5 bis 12 C-Atomen wie z. B. Pentan, Heptan, Cyclohexan oder technische Benzinfraktionen
von 60 bis 2000C, aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe wie Benzol und Toluol sowie halogenierte
aliphatische oder aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie z, B. Chlorbenzol oder Gemische der genannten
Lösungsmittel.
Das Polymerisationsverfahren wird im allgemeinen so durchgeführt, daß man eine Lösung der Monomeren
in einem der oben genannten Lösungsmittel vorlegt und dieser Lösung die Katalysatorkomponenten zufügt Die
Konzentration der Monomeren in der Lösung liegt bei etwa 5 bis 40 Gew.-% pro 100 g Lösungsmittel,
vorzugsweise bei 15 bis 30 Gew.-°/o pro 100 g Lösungsmittel. Es kann jedoch auch bei höheren
Monomerkonzentrationen polymerisiert werden. Die Reihenfolge der Zugabe der Katalysatorkomponenten
ist für die Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens nicht wesentlich. Selbstverständlich kann
auch der Katalysator in Abwesenheit der Monomeren präformiert und das Monomer zuietzi der Katalyse torlösung
zugesetzt werden. Bevorzugt arbeitet man hierbei unter einer Schutzgasatmosphäre, um größere
Mengen Feuchtigkeit und Luftsauerstoff auszuschließen, beispielsweise unter Stickstoff oder Argon. Im
allgemeinen wendet man Atmosphärendruck an, es kann aber auch unter höherem oder niedrigerem Druck
als 1 atm gearbeitet werden. Die Polymerisation verläuft im allgemeinen bei Temperaturen zwischen
-90° C und +800U bevorzugt zwischen -400C und
+ 400C.
Im allgemeinen verwendet rran pro 100 g Monomer 0,01 bis 5 mMol der Molybdän- oder ".Volframverbindung,
bevorzugt 0,2 bis 0,8 mMol. Das Molverhältnis der Katalysatorkomponente a zu b liegt zwischen 1 :0,05
und 1 :10, bevorzugt I :0,2 bis 1 :4. Die Menge der Cokatalysatoren richtet sich nach der Art des
Cokatalysators. Das Molverhältnis a zu c ist im allgemeinen für H2O 1 :0,1 bis 1 :8, bei den übrigen
Cokatalysatoren 1 :0,1 bis 1 :20.
Nach beendeter Polymerisation kann der Katalysator, z. B. durch Zusatz von Alkoholen wie Methanol,
Äthanol, Isopropanol oder organischen Säuren wie Ameisensäure oder Stearinsäure desaktiviert werden.
Um zu verhindern, daß merkliche Mengen der Metalle des Katalysatorsystems im Polymermantel verbleiben,
empfiehlt es sich, Chelatbildner wie Äthanolamin, N-Methyläthanolamin, Äthylendiamin zuzugeben.
Durch Zusatz bekannter Antioxydantien wie
2,6-Di-tert.-butyl-4-methylphenoI,
2.2 -Dihydroxy^'-di-tert.-butyl-S.S'-dimethyl-
2,6-Di-tert.-butyl-4-methylphenoI,
2.2 -Dihydroxy^'-di-tert.-butyl-S.S'-dimethyl-
diphenylmethan oder
Phenyl-0-naphthylamin
Phenyl-0-naphthylamin
können die Polymeren gegen Sauerstoffangriff stabilisiert werden.
Die Polymerisate können aus ihren Lösungen nach den üblichen Methoden durch Zugabe von Nichtlösungsmitteln
wie niedere Alkohole, z. B. Methanol oder Äthanol, gefällt werden. Technisch bevorzugt ist die
Isolierung der Polymerisate durch Eintragen dar desaktivierten und stabilisierten Polymerlösung in
heißes Wasser. Dabei destilliert das Lösungsmittel-Wa.'i'
ser-Azeotrop ab. Das Polymerisat fällt in Krümelforrn an. Die wasserfeuchten Kautschukkrüfriel werden z. U.
im Trockenschrank, auf einem Bandtrockner oder mit Hilfe einer Schneckenmaschine getrocknet.
Die erhaltenen Polymeren haben je nach den Reaktionsbedingungen einen hohen eis- oder trans-Doppelbindungsgehalt,
der aus den IR-Spektren ermittelt wird.
Die Polymeren können mit bekannten Vulkanisationsmitteln vernetzt und zu den üblichen Kautschukprodukten
verarbeitet werden.
Die vorliegende Erfindung gibt somit ein einfaches Verfahren zur Polymerisation von cyclischen Olefinen
zu offenkettigen, ungesättigten Polymeren an, wobei im Gegensatz zu den bekannten Verfahren auch in Lösung
mit sehr guten Ausbeuten polymerisiert wird. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, daß das Katalysatorsystem gegenüber
polymerisationshemmenden Substanzen wie z. B.
Wasser eine relativ große Unempfindlichkeit aufweist
1 echnische alicyclische_ Olefine enthalten im Regelfall
geringe Mengen an Äthern, Cyclopentadien und offenkettigen Diolefinen, die nur mit sehr großem
technischen Aufwand und hohen Monomerverlusten abgetrennt werden können. Diese Substanzen sind für
die bisher bekannten Katalysatoren starke Katalysatorgifte, die die Polymerausbeuten stark erniedrigen bzw.
die Polymerisation vollständig verhindern. Beim erfindungsgemäßen Katalysatorsystem wirken diese Verbindüngen
jedoch als aktive Cokatalysatoren oder Comonomere.
Im Gegensatz zu Katalysatoren, die Aluminiumalkyl-Verbindungen
enthalten, ist das Katalysatorsystem nicht selbstendzündlich. Dadurch ist das Polymerisationsverfahren
leichter durchzuführen und sicherer als bekannte Arbeitsweisen. Weiterhin bietet das erfindungsgemäße
Polymerisationsverfahren den Vorteil, in Abhängigkeit von der Katalysatorzusammensetzung
und den Reaktionsbedingungen die Mikrostrukturen und Produkteigenschaften der Polymeren in weiteren
Grenzen gezielt variieren zu können. Zum Beispiel wird durch Verwendung von Lösungsmittel bei der Polymerisation
der Gelgehalt selbst bei hohen Polymerisationsumsätzen auf 0% gehalten und unter anderem durch
Veränderung der Polymerisationstemperatur ein beliebiger eis- oder trans-Doppelbindungsgchalt eingestellt.
Polymerisiert man zwischen -90 und -200C, so enthalten die Polymeren hauptsächlich cis-Doppelbindungen
und zwischen 100C und 400C überwiegend
trans-Doppelbindungen.
Beispiel 1
Der Versuch wurde in einer 500-ml-Druckflasche mit
Kronenverschluß durchgeführt, die gut getrocknet und mit Orfreiem N? gefüllt war. Zu einer Lösung von 50 ml
technischem Cyclopenten in 150 ml trockenem sauerstofffreiem Toluol wurden in der Flasche 0,25 mMol
WC1(, und 0,5 mMol Sn(CjH^ zugegeben. Durch
Außenkühlung wurde die Temperatur auf 0°C gehalten. Nach 4 Stunden wurde die Polymerisation durch
Zugabe von 3 ml einer 10%igen Lösung von Tributylamin
in "T"o|uol beendet und nach Zugabe von 0,3 g
2,2'- Dihydroxy-SJ'-di-tert.-butyl-S.S'-dimethyl-diphenylmethan
das Polymerisat in der Sfaehen Menge Methanol ausgefällt. Nach dem Trocknen im Vakuum'
schrank bei 50°C betrüg die Ausbeute 53,4% der Theorie.

Die in Beispiel 1 beschriebene Methode wurde angewandt Zur Lösung von Cyclopenten in Toluol
wurde zunächst die Wolframverbindung, dann gegebenenfalls die Donatorverbindung und zuletzt das
Sn(C2H5J4 (Zinnalkyl) zugesetzt. Nach Ablauf der
Polymerisation wurde wie in Beispiel 1 aufgearbeitet Die Katalysatorkomponenten, vi-.e Verhältnisse der
Komponenten, das Lösungsmittel und die Temperatur wurden variiert
Im einzelnen gehen die Versuchsbedingurgen und Ergebnisse aus der Tabelle 1 hervor.

Nach der im Beispiei 1 beschriebenen Arbeitsweise wurde mit einem aus 0,2 mMol MoCl5 und 0,6 mMol

3 Stunden polymerisiert.
Ausbeute: 61 % der Theorie
trans-Doppelbindungen: 91,4%

Beispiele 24—30
Die in Beispiel 1 beschriebene Methode wurde angewendet. Zur Lösung von Cyclopenten in Toluol
wurde zunächst die Molybdiinverbindung, dann die Donatorverbiiidung und zule'.zt das Sn(C2H5J4 (Zinnalkyl)
zugesetzt. Nach Ablauf der Polymerisation wurde wie in Beispiel 1 aufgearbeitet.
Im einzelnen gehen die Versuchsbedingungen und
Ergebnisse aus der Tabelle 2 heirvor.
Die Arbeitsweise des Beispiels 1 wurde angewandt, jedoch wurden 10 ml Cycloocten in 100 ml Toluol 2
Stunden bei -3O0C polymerisiert. Der Katalysator wurde aus 0,175 mMol WCl6, 0,35 mMol Diäthyiäther
und 0,35 mMol Sn(C2Hs)4 gebildet Es entstand
Polyoctenamer in einer Ausbeute von 26% der Theorie mit vorwiegend cis-Doppelbindungen.
Nach der Arbeitsweise des Beispiels I wurden 10 ml Cyclohepten in 100 ml Toluol 2 Stunden bei +2O0C
polymerisiert. Der Katalysator wurde aus 0,175 inMol WCl6, 0,35 mMol 0(C2Hs)2 und 0,35 tnMol Sn(C2Hs)4
gebildet.
Es entstand 50% der Theorie an Polyheptenattier mit vorwiegend trans-Doppelbindungen.

Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verfahren zur Homopoiymerisation von ungesättigten alicyclischen Verbindungen mit 4, 5, 7 oder mehr Ringkohlenstoffatomen und mindestens einer olefinischen Doppelbindung im Ring in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels und eines Katalysatorsystems aus einem Halogenid oder Oxihalogenid von Molybdän oder Wolfram und metallorganischen Zinnverbindungen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als metallorganische Zinnverbindungen solche der allgemeinen FormelXnSnR4-,15wobei R einen Alkyl-, Aryl- oder Alkylarylrest bedeutet, X Fluor, Chlor, Brom oder Jod ist und η 0, I1 2 oder 3 bedeutet, mit gegebenenfalls Wasser, Diäthyläther, Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxan, Bis-(2-chIoräthyl)-äther, Thiophen, Tetramethyläthylendiamin oder Triphenylphosphin als Cokatalysator eingesetzt werden.
