Abstract

Un actuador flotante (10) que se usa en un aparato (11) diseñado para captar la energía de las olas del mar y para convertir la energía captada en agua de mar a alta presión. El actuador flotante (10) está formado por un cuerpo (21) que define un compartimiento (23) que dispone de un recubrimiento externo flexible (27). El compartimiento (23) está diseñado para contener materia, y se puede modificar selectivamente una propiedad hidrodinámica del cuerpo (12) modificando la materia contenida dentro del compartimiento (23). La modificación de la propiedad hidrodinámica puede consistir en una modificación de la flotabilidad (ya sea positiva o negativamente) o una modificación en el área de respuesta (tal como una modificación del volumen o de la forma) del cuerpo (21), así como una combinación de las mismas. La modificación de la materia puede consistir en añadir materia o extraer materia del compartimiento (23). La materia puede consistir en un sólido, un líquido o un gas, así como cualquier combinación de dichos elementos. En la configuración que se muestra, la materia consiste en esferas de poliestireno (53). El recubrimiento externo (27) asume una condición tensa y estirada debido a la presión que las esferas de poliestireno (53) ejercen desde adentro hacia fuera, haciendo que el actuador asuma la forma concebida de su diseño. El volumen ocupado por las esferas de poliestireno (53) es, en total, aún menor que el volumen total interno del compartimiento (23) y existen regiones intersticiales (55) alrededor de cada esfera de poliestireno (53). Las regiones intersticiales (55) pueden llenarse con fluido para ajustar la flotabilidad.
