- this packaging consisted of a series of wooden crosspieces arranged parallel to the axis of the spool and the ends of which rested on the two flanges, on the periphery of which flanges they were nailed, which however constituted quite a long job to do.

- a method of packaging a coil with metal strip profiled transversely so that its edges are brought into a plane both parallel to the plane of its median part and located projecting on the external face of said median part of the profiled strip which process is notably characterized in that, while the strip is still only profiled transversely, first of all it is kept tangent to the bandage of the flanges then in that elastically deforming it, gradually it is rolled up by fixing the edges on the said bandage of the flanges as and when they are rolled up, whereby the middle part is inflicted constraints likely to bulge it outwards. It also relates to the coil and the strip specially designed to implement this process as well as the coil thus packaged.

- the flanges which have their practically flat inner face 8, on the other hand have their ribs 6 which have a thickness which, like the stresses which they undergo, decreases as they move away from the center of the reel of so that the face generated by rotation of their vertex 9 is substantially conical
- a coil is produced, the bandage 7 of which projects, in the form of a cylindrical skirt, towards the outside of the face generated by the rotation of the top 9 of the ribs, by a distance "D" which, in order not to modify the size of the coil, is at most equal to the difference in thickness of the ribs between their foot 10 located near the center of the coil and their head 11 located under the tire 7.

- the shrinkage "R” will preferably be between fifteen and twenty five millimeters and for example twenty millimeters.
