- the two types of cardboard machine according to the invention described have the advantage that even thick cardboard is transported properly, safely and without smearing due to the large diameter of the sheet-guiding cylinders or drums. Due to the use of pliers grippers, kinking of the front or rear edge of the box can be avoided. By using a storage drum with integrated format adjustment with rotary suction cups on the rear edge, a far higher quality standard can be achieved compared to the known turning devices. All in all, the multi-color printing machine shown offers the possibility of processing both paper and thick cardboard in a register-free and smudge-free manner in the entire format range even at high printing speeds. It is obvious that the lower part 5 of the printing unit could also be provided between the printing units 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. It is particularly advantageous that the side walls of the lower parts of the printing unit of the printing units 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be of absolutely identical design.
