Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a safety barrier intended more particularly to ensure the road safety of motor vehicles on difficult or secondary routes of mountainous sites and sensitive areas, and to prevent them from exiting the road.
  • the wheel guard if it fits well on the site, is however very expensive, while the metal slide, of a more advantageous price, is more fragile because more easily damaged and is therefore expensive to maintain.
  • the metal slide is, moreover, less aesthetic and does not integrate well with the landscape, in particular on the small mountain roads, and is of a cost price which is increased by approximately 30% when it is posed in curved section .
  • US Patent No. 1,824,454 partially remedies the aforementioned drawbacks. It discloses a safety barrier formed by a horizontal rail made up of wooden heald elements and wooden posts each supporting two adjacent heald elements. Each heald element is provided, at each of its ends, with a metal frame allowing its connection to the adjacent end of a neighboring heald element.
  • the metal frame is constituted by a metal plate fixed on the inner face of the heald elements by means of bolts. This brings an unsightly character to the slide.
  • the purpose of the present invention is to provide a wooden slide ensuring good protection against exiting roads on winding routes and / or subject to snow and ice, which is, at the same time, more economical both purchase than maintenance, which fits well into the landscape, and which is robust.
  • the safety barrier according to the invention is formed by a horizontal heald made up of wooden heald elements and by wooden posts each supporting two adjacent heald elements each heald element being provided with each of its ends of a metal frame allowing its connection to the adjacent end of a neighboring heald element in which each armature is formed by a metal plate which is pressed into an associated slot formed at each end of each heald element and which is fixed thereto by means of at least one bolt passing through the heald member in a direction perpendicular to that of this slot.
  • the two heald members thus joined end to end can then be fixed on the post by their junction zone directly by a part of their junction plate pressed into a suitable housing formed at the upper end of the post, and fixed in it. this by means of at least one bolt passing through the post.
  • a heald element can also be fixed by its end directly to the post by means of a bolt passing through both this heald element and the post, while the other adjacent heald element is made integral only with the post by the through the junction plate.
  • FIG 1 shows a crash barrier (1) according to the invention laid along a winding road (2) such as a mountain road.
  • This safety barrier (1) is formed by a horizontal rail (3), consisting of cylindrical wooden elements (4) placed end to end, and posts (5) also made of wood supporting the rail (3).
  • the elements forming each stringer (3) are two to three meters long and are interconnected by a metal connecting plate (6) on which they are fixed.
  • the diameter of each boom element (4) can vary from 200 to 250 mm depending on the importance of the risk to be guaranteed and is a function of the maximum speed that can be reached on the road equipped with such a safety barrier.
  • Each element (smooth, post) of the slide is made of treated wood, such as pine, fir, spruce, larch.
  • FIGS 2 to 5 show a first embodiment of the safety barrier (1) according to the invention.
  • Each heald element (4) is provided at each of its ends with a slot (7) extending vertically and formed along its longitudinal axis (14) and is pierced with two holes (8) extending transversely to its longitudinal axis (14) and adapted to receive fixing bolts (9).
  • the T-shaped metal plate (6) is introduced into the slots (7) of the adjacent ends of two heald elements (4) by each of its wings and is fixed there by means of bolts (9) passing through the holes (8) in each heald element and in holes (6a) in this metal plate.
  • This T-shaped metal plate (6) is, moreover, pressed in by the lower part of this T at the upper end of a post (5), this post (5) being provided at this end with a slot (10) vertical able to receive a metal plate (6).
  • This is, as previously, fixed to each post (5) by its lower end by means of a bolt (11) passed through a hole (6b) of this plate and a hole (13) of the post (5 ) and therefore crossing the post (5) and the plate (6) right through.
  • the holes (8) and (13) formed respectively in each heald element (4) and each post (5) have the shape of a rectangular window extending horizontally for the holes (9) and vertically for the holes (8 ). These windows make it possible to adjust the heald elements (4) horizontally and vertically during their installation and therefore to obtain perfect alignment of these relative to one another.
  • each heald element (4) is therefore connected both to the support posts (5) and to the adjacent heald elements.
  • each heald element (4) is hollowed out at (17) over a length corresponding substantially to the radius of each post (5) to allow the support of each element (4) on the upper end of each post ( 5) associated.
  • Each support post (5) is also provided at its upper end with a metal ring (12) preventing the wood from bursting when the post is planted.
  • each heald element (4) is fixed to each support post (5) slightly in front of it so as to project from it about 5 to 10 cm, so in the event of a departure from the road, the impact of the vehicle occurs on the arm (3) itself and not on the posts (5), this offset being obtained by shifting the slot (10) forward relative to the longitudinal axis of the post (5).
  • Each support post (5) can, moreover, be weakened in its lower part by means of notches (18), as shown in Figures 2 and 3, so that it breaks, to prevent a wheel from vehicle abuts on the support (5), in case the entire slide is lying down.
  • Figure 4 shows the realization of a curve by means of the slide (1) according to the invention.
  • slots (19) similar to the slots (7) are provided in each end of each heald member (4) but at an angle (a) relative to the longitudinal axis (14) of the smooth element and they therefore no longer extend coaxially therefrom.
  • This angle (a) is a function of the radius of the curve to be produced.
  • the ends of each heald element (4) are also cut at an angle, perpendicular to the axis of the slot (19), and therefore at the same angle (a) so that there is no interference between the two. adjacent ends of the heald elements (4).
  • Figure 5 shows the embodiment of the end of a safety barrier according to the invention, the latter being buried in the ground for safety reasons.
  • the connecting plate (15) always has substantially the shape of a T but one of the branches (15a) of which is slightly inclined.
  • This branch (15a) is able to be introduced into the slot (7) of the end element or about (16) of the slide and serves to fix it at a determined angle relative to the rest of the heddle, this angle being a function of the height of the arm (4) relative to the ground and the length of the end piece (16).
  • the end piece (16) is buried in the ground as shown in FIG. 1.
  • each butt (16) is fixed only on the neighboring heald element (4) and this neighboring heald element (4) rests on the upper end of the post (5), and since the metal plate (15) has larger dimensions than a plate (6), it is fixed by means of four bolts (9) on this neighboring heald element (4).
  • the end of the end piece (16) which is fixed to the plate (15) is furthermore cut at an angle as shown in FIG. 5.
  • the heads of all the bolts (9,11) are embedded in countersinks (25) formed in each rail element (4) on the side of these located on the side of the road (see Figure 3).
  • FIGs 6 to 9 show a second embodiment of the heddle according to the invention.
  • each heald element (4) is fixed laterally on each support post (5) and not on it as in the previous embodiment.
  • the heddle (3) is then separated from the support (5) by a spacer (20) so as to extend far beyond it.
  • the spacer (20) will be dimensioned so that the generator, located on the side of the road, of the boom is about 30 cm from the support (5) so as to prevent it from being struck by the wheel of a vehicle in the event of an impact.
  • the connection of the heald elements (4) is carried out in the same way as previously using a metal plate (21).
  • This metal plate (21) has, in this case, not the shape of a T, but a rectangular shape since it only ensures the connection of the two adjacent heald elements (4). As before, it penetrates into vertical slots (22, 23) formed in the ends of the heald elements (4).
  • the slot (22) of a heald element (4) is larger than that (23) of the adjacent heald element so that the plate (21) penetrates more deeply, (by about 28 cm), into this heald element, which will be fixed directly to the support (5) while it penetrates only 12 cm into the other heald element presenting the slot (23).
  • Each plate (21) is fixed to each end of a heald element in the same way as previously, by means of bolts (9) and the heald element in which this plate (21) is inserted most deeply is itself fixed directly to the post (5) by means of a bolt (11) passing through both the heald element (4), the spacer (20) and the post (5).
  • each metal connection plate (21) no longer crosses the support posts (5), it is sufficient to bend it at the desired angle to obtain the desired curvature and there is no need to achieve , as before, slots (19) different from those (22) or (23) and making an angle ⁇ determined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the heald element (4).
  • Figure 9 shows the embodiment of the end of a safety barrier according to the second embodiment.
  • This end is produced in substantially the same way as shown in FIG. 5 using a connection plate (26) having a slightly inclined part (26a) capable of being fixed to the end piece (16) by means of bolts (9) after having been introduced into a slot (7) formed at the end thereof.
  • the connecting plate (26) is also fixed by means of bolts (9) on the end of the adjacent heald element (4) and this element (4) is itself fixed. on a post (5) by means of a bolt (11).
  • connection plates reinforcing the end of each heald member the slide according to the invention is sufficiently resistant and is suitable for being used for retaining vehicles traveling on winding or difficult roads or tracks.
  • the present invention is in particular not limited to safety rails with a single rail, but obviously also applies to safety rails with several horizontal rails.
  • safety barrier formed of heald elements reinforced at their ends by metal plates and connected end to end by means of these metal plates.
