Abstract

In a known isothermal dyeing process, the alkali required for fixing the dye is added linearly or progressively to the neutral dyebath under program control. In this process, the amount of alkali added per unit time is initially small and increases progressively in accordance with a preprogrammed profile. This involves passing through a certain (uncontrollable) initial phase until fixation of the dye starts on the cellulose. Subsequently, the rate of fixation attains a maximum and then gradually ceases, to arrive at the final state of the dyeing. To shorten the initial phase (delay time) of dye fixation and in order to slow down the rate of fixation during the steepest part of the curve, it has been found to be advantageous to add the alkali according to a parabolic program.
