Definitions

  • the present invention relates to fiduciary document markings, allowing authentication or identification of these documents under certain conditions: or solutions requiring authentication.
  • transduciary documents designates here and in the following security papers such as papers for banknotes, checks, stocks, securities, stamps, official documents, identity cards, passports, booklets, tickets, tickets, vouchers, newsletters, account books, and other similar papers which should provide a high level of security and allow for subsequent authentication.
  • identification is generally done by fairly simple technical means such as grazing lighting, Wood lamps, etc.
  • marking means which the counterfeiter, by examining the document cannot have knowledge, because firstly this marking is invisible, while the person responsible for authenticating or identifying will be able to make this marking appear visibly, because secondly this marking can be disabled after its disclosure by the person authorized to do so to do, and because thirdly the good reaction of revelation of the marking will be very difficult to discover because to choose among a very wide number of possibilities.
  • the present invention provides such a level of security by firstly adopting a two-stage marking process, and secondly by using the properties of the chelates.
  • the first stage of marking is a pre-marking which is done during the production of the document; the second step is the revelation of the marking which may be several months or several years after the first step.
  • This marking process uses the properties of chelates which have the advantage of being, under excitation of ultraviolet rays, fluorescent in a part of the spectrum ranging from ultraviolet to infra-red depending on the metal ions used .
  • one or more of one of the constituent elements of the chelate is deposited in or on the security paper, choosing these elements so that the chelate is not formed in this first stage.
  • the revelation is made by constituting the chelate in or on the paper, that is to say by depositing the missing element (s) there, which causes the synthesis of the chelate in this second step.
  • the chelate formation is thus carried out only at the time of identification.
  • the molar ratios between the ligand and the metal ion depend on the chelate to be formed, but in all cases the ligand must be in clear excess; with certain ligand / metal ion combinations it is possible to obtain a fluorescence of the second marking time with only traces of metal ions.
  • one or more of one of the constituent elements of the chelate are deposited in aqueous or alcoholic solution in or on the security paper, either at the head of the paper machine, or during coating, or in any other place. during its manufacture or its finishing.
  • the deposition of this or these constituent elements of the chelate does not modify the color of the paper and does not exhibit any fluorescence.
  • the missing element or elements are added to the paper by an aqueous or alcoholic deposit, by any means: printing, brush, stamp, ink reserve pencil, felt-tip pencil, or otherwise.
  • the chelate thus synthesized is an identification mark invisible in sunlight or artificial light, and visible by its fluorescent emission in UV, visible, or I.R., only under excitation of ultraviolet rays.
  • this marking already invisible in sunlight or artificial light, can also become invisible again under excitation of UV rays by deactivating the fluorescence of the chelate, deactivation obtained by depositing on the site authenticated by the fluorescent chelate an acid or alkaline solution with any of the means described and used for the second step.
  • the chelates to be formed can be formed with metals, metalloids, and chelates from Rare Earths are particularly advantageous.
  • the proof of counterfeiting will be easily applied either because, on the counterfeit document, the second step of the marking will not lead to the formation of a fluorescent chelate, the real combination not having been respected, or because the fluorescence of the chelate obtained in the second stage will not give the expected fluorescence spectrum, the real combination not having been observed there either.
  • Example 1 during the production of a security paper, an alcoholic coating solution was deposited containing 4 moles / liter of acetylacetone and 4 moles / liter of pyridine. This paper dried and cut in the format of a check showed no trace of this first time of marking,
  • Example 9 4 separate solutions of EuCl3, TbCl3, NdCl3, SmCl3 were deposited in the paper of a lottery ticket, by means of 4 ink rollers each containing one of these 4 solutions; the printing of the 4 rolls was horizontal and the 4 strip depots were each one centimeter apart,
  • Example 10 during the manufacture of a security paper, an aqueous coating solution containing 4 moles / liter of 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid, di-hydrate, was deposited and dried and then cut this paper in format d 'a check. To proceed with its authentication, the procedure was carried out as in Example 1 using a felt-tip pen filled with an aqueous solution of aluminum nitrate (0.0005 m / l) and obtained a chelate which fluoresced in green-yellow.
  • Example 11 in a reputed brand perfume, 8-hydroxyquinoline (0.004 mole) was dissolved to carry out the first step of the marking; to later distinguish it from an irritated perfume, the real perfume was authenticated and distinguished by incorporating magnesium chloride (0.0005 mole) in the alcoholic phase, thereby causing the synthesis of a fluoroscent chelate in green-yellow.
  • Example 12 the elements of example 11 were repeated but by applying them to heliographic ink for fiduciary use.
