Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for intermingling several bundles of thread material, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the swirling or twisting of bundles of yarn with the aim of compressing and joining the bundle of yarn in such a way that it is difficult to pull out individual threads during winding, knitting, weaving, etc. has been practiced for a long time.
- the twisting has also already been carried out for the purpose of removing the parallel arrangement in a carbon fiber bundle in order to increase the suitability of the bundle for impregnation with a matrix-forming resin.
- An interlacing device already used in practice which is described in U.S. Patent 3,727,274, consists of a block with a cylindrical bore for the passage of a bundle of thread material.
- a narrow pull slot on one side of the block communicates with the hole and is used to insert the thread material into the block.
- Three fluid openings are also connected to the bore, two of which run parallel to one another and tangential to the bore and the third is arranged radially to the bore.
- the block is constructed in the form of two segments which are clamped or screwed together, the dividing line between the segments and the longitudinal axis of the bore being arranged in a common plane.
- a plurality of nozzles of the type described above mounted on a common base can process a number of yarns fed simultaneously.
- the two blocks are preferably provided with a plurality of grooves parallel to one another, so that a plurality of yarn passages are available when the pair of blocks is closed.
- the yarn swirling device 10 (FIGS. 1 and 2) consists of a pair of blocks 12, 14 which are arranged one on top of the other.
- the upper block 12 is fastened with screws 15 to the ends of two pivot arms 16 which are pivotally connected to a frame 18 by means of pivot pins 20.
- the lower block 14 is fastened to a lower end of the frame 18 by means of screws 22.
- the upper block 12 can be lifted from the lower block 14 and lowered back onto it by actuating a motor, preferably a liquid cylinder 24, which is pivotally arranged between the frame 18 and a rod 26 which connects the pivot arms 16 to one another .
- a motor preferably a liquid cylinder 24, which is pivotally arranged between the frame 18 and a rod 26 which connects the pivot arms 16 to one another .
- Other engines e.g. B. an electric motor can also be used.
- the upper block can also be arranged so that it performs a vertical upward linear movement instead of a pivoting movement.
- the blocks 12, 14 are completely the same; each has a plurality of parallel, semi-cylindrical grooves 30U, 30L (Fig. 5).
- the semi-cylindrical grooves form parallel, cylindrical yarn passages 32 through which the filament yarns pass. Any number of yarn passages can be formed in this way.
- Each block includes a head portion 12A, 14A that is secured to a base portion 12B, 14B.
- the top and bottom block headers 12A, 14A are identical; the same applies to the base parts 12B, 14B. This equality is not absolutely necessary, but is advantageous in the sense of simplified production and less risk of confusion during assembly.
- the head portion of the lower block 14 has a fitting flange 25 (Fig. 1) at one end which fits into a correspondingly shaped recess in the base portion 14B.
- the base part 14B has on one side a flange 27 (FIG. 4) against which one side of the head part 14A is supported. This makes it possible to fit the head part 14A in a predetermined position on the base part 14B with a precise fit.
- the head part and base part are held together with screws 29 (FIG. 3).
- Fluid channels are connected to the grooves 30U, 30L, through which a pressurized fluid, preferably water, is guided into the yarn passages.
- a pressurized fluid preferably water
- the fluid channels have radially arranged fluid openings 34U in the upper head part and 34L in the lower head part which are connected to alternately arranged grooves, and paired tangential fluid openings 36U in the upper head part and 36L in the lower head part which communicate with the other alternating grooves stand.
- the radial openings 34U, 34L are arranged in the head part 12A, 14A, essentially radially to the associated yarn passage 32.
- the tangential openings 36U and 36L are likewise located in the head parts and run essentially tangentially to the associated yarn passage 32.
- Each thread passage 32 receives 32 thus fluid from two tangential openings 36U, 36L, which are located on one side of the parting plane 40 between the blocks, and from a radial opening 34U, 34L, which is located on the other side of the parting plane.
- the fluid flows from the tangential openings 36U, 36L enter on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the respective yarn passage 32, so that they flow against each other in the yarn passage.
- each block there are openings 34U, 36U; 34L, 36L a fluid distribution channel 42U, 42L in connection.
- This distribution channel is located in the head part and is in turn connected to two feed channels 43 in the base part.
- Each of the feed channels is connected to a fluid source, e.g. a pressurized water supply, via a line 46U, 46L in connection, which is screwed into a connection 48U, 48L in the base part of the block in question.
- a fluid source e.g. a pressurized water supply
- the distribution channel 42U, 42L has end sections 49 which have a smaller cross section than the central part of the distribution channel.
- the end sections can be drilled in the head part and closed by plugs 45 (FIG. 5).
- the feed channels 43 are drilled in the base part and then closed with plugs 50 (FIG. 4).
- An elongated O-ring 47 (FIG. 4) is inserted in a groove in the base part, which provides a fluid-tight seal around the distribution duct 42U, 42L and the feed ducts 43 when the head part and base part are assembled together.
- the end portions 49 of the distribution channel 42U, 42L have a smaller diameter than the remaining (middle) part 51 of the channel, so that the O-rings 47 can encompass the channels 42U, 42L.
- the blocks 12 and 14 are of completely the same construction.
- the above-described assignment of the fluid openings to the individual yarn passages is achieved by taking two identical blocks and rotating one of them through 180 ° , so that the tangential openings of each block are assigned to the radial openings of the other block, as can be seen in FIG. 5.
- the overall manufacturing costs are reduced somewhat, since only blocks of a single configuration need to be manufactured. If one wishes to adapt the blocks to a work step in which a different number of yarns are to be treated, one need only replace the head part 12A, 14A of each block with a new head part which has the desired number of yarn openings.
- the upper block 12 is lowered onto the lower block 14, so that the yarn passages 32 are formed in their entire form and enclose the yarns (see FIG. 6).
- water is passed under pressure through the openings 34U, 36U, 34L, 36L.
- the resulting turbulence flow to which the yarns within the yarn passages are exposed creates the desired degree of entanglement of the filaments.
- the water supply is turned off and the upper block 12 is raised while the yarns continue to be supplied.
- any contaminants that have accumulated at the entrance of the yarn passages are drawn through the yarn passages by the continuing yarn.
- these impurities are on the incoming yarn; however, they cannot pass through the yarn passages because the pressurized water flows out of them. If the contaminants are not removed, they can collect and clog the entrance of the yarn passage so that the filaments tear off.
- this problem is avoided, however, since the blocks can be separated easily, so that the contaminants can be pulled through the game passages. This step can be carried out quickly.
- the device according to the invention does not have any pulling-in slots which frequently clog.
- yarns which have been intermingled according to the invention have a significantly lower proportion of lint. This is at least partly due to the avoidance of a pull-in slot. As discussed above, these are slots that communicate with the yarn passages and are used to insert the yarns into the passages. Where the slot intersects the game passage in question, sharp edges are formed. Some filaments break when the yarn is thrown against these corners by the turbulence flow, so that the amount of lint increases. In the nozzle according to the invention, such corners are avoided since a smooth surface completely surrounding the yarn is formed in the yarn passage. Games treated according to the invention therefore have lower lint contents.
- the inlets and outlets of the water openings can be cleaned relatively easily and quickly after removing the replaceable head parts. In addition, it is only necessary to mount other head parts if it should be necessary to change the size or number of yarn openings in order to treat a different size or number of yarns.
- the 46U, 46L water hoses do not need to be removed.
