Definitions
- This invention relates to a swivel mechanism for a spool and a winding machine with such a mechanism.
- the winder is particularly intended to be a machine for unwinding synthetic endless filaments, but the invention is not limited to this application.
- EP-A-73930 requires a relatively large amount of space in the axial direction of each coil mandrel. It is the object of this invention to reduce the space requirement in the axial direction.
- the winding machine in FIG. 1 contains a housing 16 and a roller 18 which extends forwards from the front of the housing 16 and is rotatably supported about its own longitudinal axis by a bracket 100 mounted on the housing 16.
- Roller 18 can be designed as a driving friction roller or as a simple contact (tacho) roller, the latter arrangement being particularly dealt with in our British patent application 8531151.
- the machine also contains an upper spool mandrel 24 and a lower spool mandrel 26.
- the mandrel 24 is rotatably supported about its own longitudinal (mandrel) axis by a pivot arm 28 and the lower mandrel 26 is supported by its own similar pivot arm 30 held.
- the pivot axes of the arms 28, 30, the mandrel axes and the longitudinal axis of the roller 18 are all parallel to one another.
- An advantageous alternative arrangement has been described in European Patent Application 161385 (US Patent 4609159).
- the supplied threads are wound on tubes 102 to form bobbins (packs).
- bobbins Packs
- two sleeves 102 per mandrel 24, 26 are shown;
- up to eight threads are wound up side by side to form spools on a mandrel.
- the following description refers to the unwinding of a single thread; however, this description applies to all threads supplied at the same time.
- the upper mandrel 24 has a rest position, in which a brake disk 192 rotatable with the mandrel bears against a brake shoe 198. There is a corresponding rest position for the lower mandrel 26, in which the brake disk of this mandrel rests on a brake shoe 200.
- the latter can be brought from its rest position by rotating the arm 28 counterclockwise (FIG. 1) into an ascending position, the sleeves 102 carried by the mandrel 24 coming into contact with the roller 18.
- the swivel arm 28 is mounted on a shaft 32, which itself is rotatably supported in two carrier plates 130, 132.
- a continuation (not visible in FIG. 1) of the shaft 32 beyond the plate 132 carries a connecting element 162, which is coupled to the rod 160 of a piston-and-cylinder unit 158 by an articulated connection.
- the cylinder of the unit 158 is connected to the base plate 128 of the machine by a further joint 210.
- the element 162 can be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the shaft 32, this rotary movement being transmitted from the element 162 to the swivel arm 28 by means of a connecting rod 168.
- This rod 168 is connected to the piston (not visible in FIG.
- a substantially identical pivot mechanism is provided for moving the lower mandrel 26, only the shaft 34 carried by the plates 130, 132 and the piston and cylinder unit 212 in FIG. 1 being clearly visible in FIG. 1.
- the cylinder of the unit 212 is articulated with an intermediate element 162 A. connected and the rod 160 A of the unit 212 is connected to the housing 16 by a joint 214.
- the space within the housing 16 can be divided into a front chamber between the plates 130, 132 and a rear chamber between the plate 132 and the rear wall of the housing 16.
- the front chamber contains the pivot arms 28, 30 and the corresponding parts of the mandrels 24, 26, while the rear chamber contains the units 158, 212 and the intermediate elements 162, 162 A.
- Each mandrel 24, 26 can continue from its pivot arm 28, 30 towards the rear chamber, but cannot extend very far into the rear chamber without coming into contact with the unit 158, which must be avoided in any case.
- the axial length of the machine could be reduced if the entire swivel mechanism could be housed in the front chamber.
- Each of the three figures 2 a), 2 b), 2 c) shows a schematic representation of a respective pivot mechanism 300 a), 300 b), 300 c) for the lower mandrel, which in these figures bears the reference number 26 again and in each Diagram is shown in its winding position on the roller 18.
- Each pivot mechanism 300 a), b), c) contains two parts which can be opened and closed, the first part 310 a), b), c) of which carries the spool mandrel 26 at one of its ends.
- the second part 320 a), b), c) is connected to the first part by a rotating device 330 and to the housing 16 by a force means 340.
- Each of the two parts is pivotable in the housing 16 stored, and the difference between the variants shown lies in the arrangement of the pivot axes for these parts, as described below.
- the part 310 a) has its own rotary connection 350 a) directly with the housing 16, and the part 320 a) also has its own rotary connection 360 a) with the housing.
- the part 320 c) has its own direct rotary connection 360 c) with the housing 16.
- the part 310 c) has no direct connection with the housing, but only a rotary connection 350 c) which is fixed on the part 320 c) arranged and movable with this part about the pivot axis of the connection 360 c).
- FIG. 2 c) shows a further variant with dash-dotted lines, according to which the parts 310 c) and 320 c) extend in opposite directions from their respective rotary connections 350 c), 360 c). Furthermore, as indicated by dash-dotted lines, the force means 330 can be accommodated below instead of above the part 320 c).
- the rotating device 330 is able to determine the mutual angular position of the parts 310, 320 to be determined within given limits by a pivoting movement of the first part 310 independently of the second part 320, ie to fold the two parts on and off.
- a suitable means for this purpose will be described in detail below.
- the force means 340 is able to pivot the second part 320 from its starting position (indicated by dashed lines in each diagram) into an operating position (drawn by solid lines in each diagram).
- the entire rotary movement in order to bring the mandrel 26 out of its rest position (not shown) into its shown winding position is thus carried out in two stages, which was actually already the case in a machine according to European patent 73930.
- these two steps can now be carried out by moving separately movable swivel parts 310, 320, which is new compared to a machine according to European patent 73930.
- the second part 320 In the rest position of the mandrel 26, not shown, the second part 320 is in its initial position (indicated by dashed lines).
- the device 330 is actuated in such a way that the first part 310 is closed toward the second part 320, so that the angle between these parts is approximately zero (state not shown in FIG. 2).
- the device 330 is actuated to open the parts 310, 320 apart, the second part 320 remaining in its rest position. This first stage is completed when a predetermined maximum opening angle between the two parts is reached.
- the mandrel 26 can be accelerated to its operating speed by a motor, not shown, which serves as preparation for the takeover of the threads during the second stage.
- the force means 340 is actuated to move the second part 320 from its initial position into its operating position (solid lines), while the first part 310 is in its unfolded position by the device 330 in relation to that second part 320 is held.
- the mandrel 26 is brought from its intermediate or acceleration position into the winding position shown on the roller 18.
- the mandrel 26 must move back from its shown winding position against its rest position (the winding travel) in order to enable the build-up of the spool between the sleeves 102 and the roller 18.
- the angular position of the parts 310, 320 relative to one another remains unchanged during the winding travel.
- the actuation of the force means 340 is continuously adapted during the winding travel, for example as already described with reference to FIGS. 16 and 17 of the European patent 73930, in order to exert a controlled contact pressure between the coil and the roller 18.
- the mandrel is in the rest position (by closing the parts 310, 320 and moving the part 320 back to its initial position) brought back, the threads are taken from the upper mandrel 24 ( Figure 1) for winding.
- Figure 2 shows only the lower mandrel 26 and the corresponding pivot mechanism 300. However, it will be clear that the upper mandrel 24 ( Figure 1) can be carried and moved by a similar but mirror-inverted pivot mechanism.
- Figures 3 to 7 represent a practical embodiment, only elements have been greatly simplified and have therefore only been shown schematically, since certain details (e.g. the exact shape of castings) are irrelevant to the invention. In the following description, the function is emphasized rather than the detail construction.
- Figures 3 to 5 show a pivot mechanism for the lower mandrel, while Figure 6 shows the upper mechanism. Since the parts are identical in their functions, they will be identified with the same reference numerals for the upper and lower mechanisms.
- the reference numeral 350 indicates a supporting shaft which, similar to the shaft 34 in FIG. 1, runs between two carrier plates (not shown in FIGS. 3 to 5) and is rotatably mounted in each plate.
- two different parts are rotatably mounted independently of one another, namely an arm 310 and a lever 320.
- the arm 310 has a gripping device 312, with which it does not engage the lower mandrel 26 (FIG. 1, in FIGS. 3 to 5) shown) against movement in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel axis.
- a storage device in the mandrel itself allows that Rotation of the sleeve-bearing part of the mandrel around the mandrel axis during the spool assembly.
- the lever 320 is mounted on the shaft 350 by two lugs 322, 324 (FIG. 6).
- the arm 310 is mounted on the shaft 350 between these two lugs 322, 324 in a manner which is explained in more detail below with reference to FIG. 6.
- the description focuses on the pivoting movements of the parts 310, 320 according to FIGS. 3, 4 and 5, each part rotating about the longitudinal axis of the shaft 350.
- the means 330 (FIG. 3) for determining the mutual angular position of the parts 310, 320 comprises a pneumatic cylinder 332, a connection 334 between the cylinder 332 and the lever 320, a connecting rod 336 which is connected to the piston (not shown) of the cylinder 332 is connected and a connection 338 between the rod 336 and a projection 314 on the gripping device 312 of the arm 310.
- the connections 334, 338 are described in more detail below in connection with FIG. 6. For the time being, it suffices to say that each of these connections allows the cylinder 332 to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise with respect to FIGS. 3 to 5.
- the means 340 (FIG. 3) for determining the position of the lever 320 relative to the rest position and the winding position of the mandrel comprises a piston rod 342, a rotary connection 344 between the piston rod 342 and an end piece 326 at the free end of the lever 320, a cylinder (not shown ) for actuating the rod 342 and a joint (not shown) between this cylinder and the housing 16.
- This last-mentioned cylinder largely corresponds to the cylinder 212 from FIG. 1, but is now no longer housed in the rear but in the front in the housing 16, as are the other parts shown in FIGS. 3 to 6.
- FIG. 3 shows the positions of the parts when the mandrel 26 is in its rest position, this rest position being identical to that of the mandrel 26 in FIG. 1.
- the cylinder of the means 340 is not under pressure, so that the connection 344 lies on the lower limit of its predetermined path, the lever 320 extending horizontally from its connection to the shaft 350.
- the cylinder 332 is also vented so that the rod 336 is in its retracted position with respect to the cylinder 332.
- the arm 310 is therefore folded toward the lever 320, the gripping device 312 lying on a trough-shaped surface 328 (FIGS. 4 and 5) of the lever 320.
- FIG. 4 shows the mutual position of the parts 310, 320 when the mandrel held by the gripping device 312 lies in an intermediate position between its rest position and the winding position.
- This intermediate position is achieved by supplying the cylinder 332 with compressed air from a suitable source (not shown) in order to eject the rod 336 from the cylinder.
- the rod 336 does not run parallel to the arm 310, but encloses an acute angle with it, so that the pressurization of the cylinder 332 generates a torque on the arm 310, which rotates the arm clockwise around the axis of the shaft 350.
- the arm 310 is freely rotatably mounted on the shaft 350, so that the mentioned rotational movement can continue until the rod 336 is fully ejected from the cylinder 332.
- Another variant, which temporarily limits this rotary movement for a specific purpose, will be described below with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7.
- the cylinder of the means 340 remains without pressure.
- the lever 320 thus remains in its horizontal position, while the arm 310 is opened by actuating the means 330 relative to the lever 320.
- the mandrel 26 can be accelerated to its operating speed or higher, so that it is ready to take over the threads to be wound up as soon as the winding of the threads on the upper mandrel 24 (FIG. 1) is stopped.
- the mandrel 26 In order to take over the threads, the mandrel 26 must then be moved against its aforementioned upwind position, which is carried out by actuating the means 340, as can be seen from FIG.
- the desired rotational movement of the mandrel 26 from its rest position against its winding position is thus effected by actuating the means 330, 340 in a predetermined order.
- a machine of the type shown in FIG. 1 also requires an axial movement of the mandrel, ie along its own mandrel axis, during the rotary movement from the rest position to the winding position. The implementation of this additional axial movement will now be described with reference to FIG. 6.
- the pivot mechanism partially shown in FIG. 6 is not that of the lower mandrel 26, but that of the upper mandrel 24 (FIG. 1).
- the upper pivot mechanism is mirrored to the lower mechanism, which means that the cylinder of means 340 (Fig. 3) for the upper mechanism does not correspond to cylinder 212 in Fig. 1 but to cylinder 158, i.e. it is not connected to the cover of the housing 16, but to the base plate 128 (FIG. 1). Accordingly, the two stages of the course of movement of the upper mechanism are not caused by the elevation but by the lowering of the parts.
- the shape of the upper lever 320 must be slightly different from the shape of the lower lever, so that the cylinders for operating these levers can be arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel.
- everyone Lever thus has two wings 321, 323, each of which carries an extension 322, 324.
- the length of these vanes in the longitudinal direction of the shaft axis 352 are of different sizes for the upper and lower mechanisms. This difference is irrelevant for the function of each individual mechanism.
- FIG. 6 shows the front side of the upper swivel mechanism resting on the carrier plate 130 in a position which corresponds to the intermediate position of the mandrel 24.
- lever 320 and arm 310 are both partially cut away to show shaft 350, and cutout Y is omitted from cylinder 332 for the same purpose.
- the cutout X shows that the arm 310 is mounted on the shaft 350 by a sleeve 316, a ball bearing 318 allowing the arm 310 to move freely in the longitudinal direction of the shaft 350.
- the arm 310 During the rotational movement of the entire mechanism to move the mandrel from its intermediate position against the roller 18, the arm 310 remains in its retracted position shown in Fig. 6 until the threads to be wound have been taken over by the mandrel. But then the arm 310 moves forward until the clearance S disappears, that is, until the front end face of the cuff 316 abuts the shoulder 324.
- This forward movement of the arm 310 is effected by a piston and cylinder unit, not shown, corresponding to the unit 172 in Fig. 1, the cylinder of this unit with the neck 322 (Fig. 3 to 5) and the rod of the unit with the Arm 310 is connected.
- the mandrel is not immediately moved to its ascending position by actuating means 340 (Fig. 3), i.e. brought into contact with the roller 18. It is namely advantageous to rotate the mandrel about its own mandrel axis at a certain "overspeed" when the threads are taken over. This means that the tangential speed on the circumference of the sleeves 102 is slightly higher than the tangential speed on the circumference of the roller 18 during takeover. In order to achieve this without difficulty, at the time of the takeover there should be a tiny gap between the roller 18 and those carried by the mandrel Sleeves 102 are released.
- the parts 310, 320 are interconnected by a flexible element, for example a short one Chain, connected.
- This element is schematically indicated in FIG. 4 and also in FIG. 7 by line 370.
- the element 370 is anchored to the arm 310 at one end by an articulated connection 372 (FIG. 7) and at the other end to the lever 320 by a similar connection 374.
- the arrangement is such that when the arm 310 is in its forward position, ie the sleeve 316 (FIG. 6) touches the shoulder 324, the element 370 extends perpendicularly between the lever 320 and the arm 310, which is shown in FIG Fig. 7 is indicated with a dashed line.
- the element 370 moves from its vertical position into an oblique position, which is indicated in FIG. 7 by solid lines.
- the element 370 In its vertical position, the element 370 allows a distance A between the joint 372 carried by the arm 310 and the joint 374 carried by the lever 320. When the element 370 is inclined, the possible distance is reduced to L (FIG. 7).
- the element 370 therefore forms a limiting means which blocks the outward movement of the rod 336 from the cylinder 332 before it has reached the end of the stroke and accordingly limits the angular position of the parts 310, 320.
- the parts 310, 320 are not fully opened when the mandrel is in the intermediate position, since the arm 310 is withdrawn at this time (FIG. 6) and the opening movement is limited by the element 370 is.
- the parts 310, 320 remain in this partially opened angular position until the threads are taken over. If but then the arm 310 is moved forward and the element 370 is returned to its vertical position, the cylinder 332 pushes the rod 336 further outwards, the sleeves 102 being brought into contact with the roller 18.
- the mandrel During the build up of the spool, the mandrel must be slowly rotated back to its rest position from this first winding position in order to allow the packing radius between each sleeve 102 and the roller 18 to increase with continuous contact of the package with the roller.
- this "winding cycle” the state of the means 330 and therefore the angular position of the parts 310, 320 remain unchanged.
- the state of the means 340 is continuously adapted to the changed winding conditions - not only in relation to the position of the lever 320 in relation to the roller, but also in relation to the contact forces between the package and the roller 18.
- the lever 320 After completion of the spools, the lever 320 is initially moved back into its starting position, after which the parts 310, 320 are closed by venting the cylinder 332 in order to bring the mandrel back into its rest position.
- a suitable means (not shown) can be provided to cleanly supply the flexible element 370 when the parts 310, 320 are closed.
- a resilient means can bias the element 370 so that it lies between the closed parts 310, 320 in a predetermined folded state.
- An intermediate plate (in FIG. The carrier plate 132) inside the housing 16 is no longer necessary.
- the mandrels can now extend much further back from the pivot arms 310 into the housing 16, which allows the use of a much larger drive motor at the rear end of each mandrel.
- the new construction is therefore particularly useful for a winding machine with a so-called spindle drive, according to which the driving forces are to be generated at least mainly by the mandrel motors and not by the roller 18.
- the rear part of the chamber between the carrier plates 130, 132 can also be kept essentially free of other components. If the roller 18 is driven by a shaft (not shown) extending into the housing 16, this shaft can be supported in the two plates 130, 132 and the drive motor can be attached to the rear of the rear plate 132.
- the braking devices 198, 200 (Fig. 1) are poorly suited for cooperation with the new swivel mechanism.
- An alternative solution, which provides for the relocation of the brakes to the gripper 312, will now be described with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9.
- the front part of the gripper 312, as can be seen in FIG. 6, contains gripping jaws (not shown) which enclose and hold a non-rotatable part of the mandrel.
- the rear part of the gripper has a flange 313 (FIGS. 3 to 5), on which a housing 380 (FIGS. 8 and 9) for the braking device is fastened.
- a rotating part 25 of the mandrel protrudes through the gripper 312 and carries a brake disc 382, which stands within the brake housing 380.
- the housing 380 has an opening 384 (FIG. 9) through which a drive shaft (not shown) can extend to the rotating part of the mandrel.
- the drive motor acceleration motor or main drive motor
- the housing 380 can be mounted on the housing 380 (not shown).
- the housing 380 is provided with a short, ring-shaped, inwardly projecting projection 386.
- the braking device 390 is mounted on this projection by a bearing 388 in such a way that the entire device 390 can carry out a limited rotational movement about the mandrel axis 20. The purpose of this movement is clear from the following description.
- the device 390 in turn contains a carrier ring 392 which is rotatably supported by the projection 386 via bearings 388.
- a bolt 394 is screwed into the ring 392, but extends in the axial direction against the gripper 312.
- Two brake pads 396, 398 are rotatably suspended on the free-standing part of the bolt 394, each brake pad being essentially semicircular and extending around the brake disk 382.
- On its inside, each brake pad 396, 398 has a lining 400 which can be brought into contact with the disk 382 by rotating the respective brake pad about the longitudinal axis of the pin 394. In this sense, the brake pads are prestressed by a spring 402 (FIG. 8).
- each brake pad 396, 398 has a pin 404 with a roller 406 rotatably mounted thereon when the brake pads 400 are on of the disc 382, the rollers 406 are close together at a predetermined distance (FIG. 8).
- the ring 390 also carries a cantilever 408 that extends substantially parallel to the arm 310 against the shaft 350 (FIGS. 3-5).
- the boom 408 includes a radially extending cavity 410 that is open radially inward against the rollers 406.
- a piston 412 runs in this cavity 410 with a conical end part 414.
- the tip of the cone part 414 projects between the rollers 406 without the rollers touch.
- the cavity 410 is supplied with compressed air from its outer end, the conical part 414 pushes radially inwards between the rollers 406. The forces exerted by the compressed air are sufficient to overcome the prestressing of the springs 402, so that the brake pads are released rotate around pin 394, releasing brake disc 382.
- the outer end portion of the boom 408 includes a chamber 416 that extends across the boom 408 and mandrel axis 20 and includes a piston 418.
- Chamber 416 is open at one end (to the right in Figure 8) and the piston extends beyond the open end of the chamber.
- the free end of the piston 418 is in contact with a member 420 of a U-shaped stop which can be carried by the housing 380 or by the arm 310 (not shown).
- the stop is definitely not rotatable about the mandrel axis 20.
- a spring is disposed between the boom 408 and the other link 421 of the stop 420 and presses the boom 408 against the link 420.
- the chamber 416 is connected to the cavity 410 by an opening 415, so that both are supplied or vented with compressed air at the same time.
- boom 408 rotates clockwise (as shown in FIG. 8) against the bias exerted by spring 419.
- a sensor 417 reacts to this rotary movement and blocks a control valve which regulates the supply of compressed air from a suitable source (not shown) to a sleeve clamping system (not shown) present in the mandrel.
- Powering valve 411 prevents the release of the tensioning system.
- the invention is not restricted to the details of the example shown.
- the axial movement of the mandrel is not an essential feature of the invention. But if this movement does not take place, must Additional thread guides are provided to transfer the threads cleanly from one mandrel to the other during the takeover phase.
- the new swivel mechanism can also be used when only one mandrel has to be moved, in which case, of course, the continuous winding of the thread is no longer possible.
- the described sequence of operations does not have to be followed exactly. If, for example, the mandrel can already be accelerated to the operating speed in its rest position, no intermediate position has to be switched on.
- the means 330, 340 can then be operated simultaneously, and one or the other or both could be used to generate the contact forces.
