- a bituminous sheet 1 is used, shown in FIG. 1, in view from below, comprising a screen 2 covering the entire surface of the sheet with the exception of a narrow zone 3 extending along a longitudinal edge of the sheet 1.
- This sheet 1 also has perforations 4 located along from the edge opposite the screen-less zone and which pass right through the bituminous sheet and the screen 2. These perforations 4 are regularly spaced on two lines parallel to the edge of the sheet, their position on these two parallel lines being alternate. Any conventional reinforcement possibly present in sheet 1 has not been shown for the purpose of simplification.
- the perforations can also be placed randomly if desired, but the efficiency of the system may be reduced.
- the shape, size and distribution of the perforations will be adapted to the width provided for the overlaps, to the thickness of the sheets, to the viscosity of the bituminous composition of the sheet, to the pouring temperature of the asphalt.

- the lower sheet 10 has a screen 14 and a longitudinal edge 15 in the vicinity of which there are perforations 16 as described above, which pass through the bituminous sheet and the screen.
- the upper sheet 11 has an end zone 17 without screen which is placed on the upper face of the sheet 10, which establishes a contact between the bituminous masses of the two sheets. This contact is discontinuous due to the relative stiffness of the bituminous sheets and thus leaves pockets of air between them.
- a layer of molten asphalt 18 or similar hot-pourable product is then poured, which raises the temperature of the bituminous parts of the sheets 10 and 11 in contact and produces a heat seal in the overlap areas.
- the air included in the air pockets existing between the two sheets in the overlap zone is evacuated through the perforations 16 and passes between the upper face 12 of the support 13 and the screens of the adjacent sheets.
- the weight of the upper layer 18 makes the pockets disappear and the upper face of the coating is flat and regular.
