Definitions
- the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising in particular drive means and one or more visible indicator members movable in rotation and designed so as to cooperate with said drive means.
- Timepieces are already known, in which the indicator members are superimposed discs and the drive means are located at the periphery of the timepiece and cooperate with the indicator members by their outer edges.
- Timepieces of this kind are known in particular from the Swiss patents CH 307,045 and CH 625,663. The purpose of these achievements was to create timepieces having a particular appearance by the fact that their center is clear at least at the level of the indicator members, which allows either an original aesthetic, or an arrangement allowing the timepiece to be used also for purposes other than the simple purpose of time indication.
- the purpose of the present invention is to achieve a new development in the presentation of timepieces of this kind, while achieving a space-saving and precise drive means, capable of being put in direct engagement with a movable member of large dimensions, this member can also be circular or linear and move in rotation or in translation.
- the present invention relates to a timepiece of the kind mentioned above, characterized in that the drive means comprise an electro-mechanical transducer for each indicator member in direct engagement with the latter through the said peripheral zone.
- the object of the invention also relates to a mobile indicator member, characterized in that it comprises at its periphery a magnetic toothing with low remanence and in that it is movable step by step in one direction by means of 'a group of electromagnets spaced from each other by an integer number of steps of said toothing, plus a fraction of step equal to the inverse of the number of electromagnets in the group.
- the object of the invention can be realized in any room size of horology going from the wristwatch to the wall clock or to the advertising clock.
- the watch shown in fig. 1 and 2 has the advantage that its center is entirely free, so that the case can contain a visible object, such as a precious stone or a souvenir object.
- the case of the timepiece is in this case combined with the movement support. It comprises an oblong box body 1, with a circular area on which are fixed a glass 2 and a removable rear plate 3, of annular shape, so that a central area of the housing, separated from a peripheral annular area by a wall 4, forms a housing 5 closed towards the rear by a removable bottom 6.
- the glass 2 has a lens appearance, so as to constitute a magnifying glass.
- the timepiece is designed to constitute what was once called a "mysterious watch".
- the hour turn is engraved or inscribed on a flange 7 which is placed directly under the glass and which is supported by a notch in the body of the case 1.
- three indicator members 8, 9 and 10 which are also annular shape, which are transparent, which each carry a reference 8a, 9a, 10a, and which cooperate with drive means placed in housings of the body 1.
- the battery and the control electronics (not shown) will be mounted on the annular plate 3.
- a window 11 reveals a panel 12, for example a liquid crystal display panel, also controlled by the electronic control of the timepiece, indicating for example the day of the week, date and month.
- Figs. 3 and 4 show in an alternative embodiment of the timepiece of FIGS. 1 and 2, the arrangement of the indicator members and their drive means.
- the watch case includes a middle part 13, a glass 14 and a base 15. Inside this case is housed a movement support 16 with a central veil 16a, the function of which will be defined below.
- the peripheral part of the movement support 16 carries along its inner periphery an indicator member support 17 with an L-profile guiding and supporting the three superimposed indicator members, 8 9 and 10 which are thin discs of transparent plastic material having bosses 8b, 9b and 10b ensuring their positioning and their sliding.
- the members are held in place between the flange 7 and the support 17 and cooperate with drive means which are constituted by nine electromagnets mounted on the support 16 and shown in a more readable manner in FIG. 4.
- These electromagnets 18 are divided into three groups.
- the group 18a comprises three electromagnets distributed so as to drive the indicator member 8, while the group 18b also comprises three electromagnets distributed on the support 16 so as to actuate the indicator member 9 and the group 18c and positioned so as to drive the indicator member 10.
- Each of these electromagnets comprises (FIG. 3) a core 19, a coil 20, and two pole pieces 21 which are designated in FIGS.
- the cores 19 and the coils 20 need not be described in detail. They are standard construction.
- pole pieces 21A, B and C are visible in FIGS. 3, 5 and 6. These parts are fixed to the end pieces of the cores 19 by driving them on low-profile tenons with the steel elements with low remanence which constitute the cores with their end pieces.
- each of the groups 18a, 18b, 18c cooperate and drive step by step one of the indicator members 8, 9 or 10, and this by means of a magnetic toothing 22 which each of these members has indicators.
- An embodiment of the magnetic toothing 22 is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4.
- this magnetic toothing consists of a ring of ferro-magnetic metal with low remanence, a ring whose peripheral zone is cut out so as to have a rectangular toothing with 60 teeth distributed over the periphery of the ring.
- the ring 22 will for example bevel along its inner edge, as seen in FIG. 3, and will be embedded inside the transparent plastic of the indicator member of which it is a part.
- this magnetic toothing could also be produced by successive metallized zones formed on the periphery of each of the discs 8, 9 or 10, the metal of these metallized zones being a ferro-magnetic metal with low remanence capable of cooperating with the pole pieces. 21 of the electromagnets 18, as does the teeth of the rings 22.
- the various electromagnets of each group 18a, 18b or 18c have a length corresponding to an integer number of steps of the magnetic teeth of the rings 22, so that the two pole pieces 21 of the same electromagnet are simultaneously opposite two teeth of the teeth of the ring 22, as seen for example for the electromagnet 18a shown in the lower part of FIG. 4.
- the electromagnet which will then come into action is shifted in the direction of advance of the indicator member by an integer number of steps of the teeth, plus a fraction of equal steps in the present case to a third party, since the number of electromagnets in each group is three.
- the electromagnet 18a shown in the upper left part of FIG. 4 is offset by a third of the pitch of the toothing relative to that shown in the lower part.
- the third electromagnet of the group, shown at the upper right of fig. 4 is offset by two thirds of a step.
- the pole pieces 21 belonging to the electromagnets of group 18a have the appearance of the pole piece 21a shown in FIG.
- pole piece 21 is at the level of the indicator member 8 and extends through one of the slots 23 of the piece 17, slots which are provided to facilitate the positioning of the electromagnets.
- the pole pieces of the electromagnets of groups 18b and 18c have the appearance given in FIGS. 5 and 6 respectively. For the entire timepiece two different machining operations are therefore sufficient to produce all of the pole pieces.
- the ends of the different pole pieces 21 are placed so as to cooperate with the teeth of the different toothing 22.
- the movement support 16 will carry the control electronics necessary to form and control power pulses which will be directed to the different electromagnets .
- the elements 24 and 25 thus represent components, for example a battery and a correction device fixed to the reverse of the web 16a of the support 16.
- the program distribution of the implusions on the different electromagnets 18 could have the effect that one of the indicator members 8 functions as a seconds indicator disc, the indicator member 9 as the minutes indicator member, and the indicator member 10 as the indicator members of the hours for example, although other functions may just as well be provided.
- the device for correcting and resetting the time or, if necessary, for changing functions 25 may be influenced by buttons or push-buttons (not shown) which will be placed under the bottom 15.
- the different indicator bodies will advance step by step. 'a step of the teeth at each entry into action of the corresponding group of electromagnets, this group constituting, with the elements of the electronic circuit which controls it, an electro-mechanical transducer.
- the pulses on the electromagnet which keeps the disc in place for most of the time may be for example 60/100 of a second, after which the current will be cut and a 20/100 second pulse will be sent to the next electromagnet of the group so as to advance the corresponding indicator member by a third of a step. After 20/100 of a second the pulse will stop and a pulse will appear in the third electromagnet of the group, this third pulse also lasting 20/100 of a second.
- the distribution of pulses will follow from what has been explained above with respect to the second discs.
- Each minute the minute disc will advance one step, i.e. the three electromagnets of group 18b will come into action successively during the last second of the minute.
- each not 1/60 of a turn, i.e. of 6 ° can be performed at 12 minute time intervals.
- This additional electromagnet could receive pulses which release the ring by moving a movable core in the centrifugal radial direction, or on the contrary pulses which block the ring by moving the core in the centripetal radial direction.
- all the pulses on all the electromagnets could be shortened to the minimum.
- such blocking could also be envisaged by other means, in particular mechanical means, the blocking cores could in particular be biased by springs.
- each of the indicator members it would also be possible to provide toothing of a shape other than that which is shown in FIG. 4, or different arrangements, such as for example metallized areas of different shapes, as indicated above.
- Fig. 7 shows for example in developed view the three successive positions of a magnetic toothing 22 facing three fixed pole pieces A, B, C, arranged facing this toothing and belonging to three electromagnets 18 of the same group.
- the pulses are sent successively to the coils of the electromagnets A, B, C, then again A and so on.
- the magnetic toothing therefore advances regularly, step by step in the direction of arrow 26, for as long as desired.
- each transducer could include two electromagnets actuating a pawl engaging in the teeth of the indicator member. This teeth could then be sawtooth and the two pawls would be arranged 180 ° apart from each other.
- a blocking electromagnet could be provided to maintain the disc between the periods of advancement.
- each transducer could include an electric motor, the rotor of which is integral with a worm gear.
- the periphery of the indicator member would have a worm gear teeth cooperating with the pinion of the motor.
- the impulses transmitted to the motor would then have the effect of rotating the latter at a speed and for a time sufficient for the indicator member to advance by one step.
- the magnetic blocking members of the motor would also serve, in this case, to block the indicating member itself during the periods of rest between the pulses.
- the motor itself could be of the stepping type or of another type of electromagnetic transducer.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 of a pendant watch arrangement comprising a central housing allowing a decorative or precious object to be placed there.
- the discs 8, 9 and 10 are made of transparent plastic or glass, and the internal surface of the veil 16a of the support 16 is therefore visible under the glass 14. This surface may include a decoration.
- the central zone of the discs 8, 9 and 10 which is entirely free since the pivoting and the guiding of the discs is ensured by their periphery, may also include a decoration, for example a coloring, or a coloring distributed in zones, geometric or no, which, by overlapping in variable orientations, give the impression of a lively decor.
- the number of indicator bodies could be different from 3, for example 2 or 4.
- the members 8, 9 and 10 can also be made for the members 8, 9 and 10 to be integral with cannons or axes fixed in their central part.
- the indicating members could carry a needle mounted on an axis or on a central barrel, so that the indication of the time provided by the timepiece is of the entirely conventional type.
- the driving of organs such as 8, 9 and 10 in the various executions provided for by engagement in direct engagement with a transducer makes it possible to simplify the mechanical production, to reduce the bulk and to improve the reliability of the operation, all the functions of time division being transferred to the electronic circuit.
- the indicator members could even be of the linear type, with progressive displacement back and forth, and be used not only for measuring time, but also for measuring and indicating other parameters, so that the device described above can find applications in particular for example in the field of the machine tool or in the field of robotization.
