Definitions

  • the invention relates to a protective cap for a coupling ball of a trailer coupling of a motor vehicle, consisting of a cup-like base body which can be slipped over the coupling ball to cover it and fixed there.
  • This protective cap has a locking device which consists of a bolt which is rotatably mounted in an extension of the base body transversely to its longitudinal axis and which is assigned to the coupling ball in its closed position with a projecting and in its open position with a recessed circumferential surface. By rotating the bolt into an open position, the coupling ball is released so that the protective cap can be removed. If the bolt is in the closed position, the protective cap is permanently attached to the coupling ball. The locking device prevents the protective cap from detaching itself from the coupling ball and thus being lost.
  • the invention is fundamentally based on another problem, which consists in the fact that for the use of the trailer coupling the protective cap is removed by the user, who must keep it until the coupling ball is covered again. This safekeeping is often not carried out carefully enough so that the protective cap is lost.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a protective cap of the type mentioned at the outset which can be safely stored without loss.
  • the protective cap is designed magnetically in such a way that the protective cap removed from the coupling ball and fed to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle is held there in the adhesive seat.
  • the user therefore simply removes the protective cap from the coupling ball and then assigns it to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, for example the chassis or the body panel, so that it automatically moves there due to its magnetic effects Holds in place and remains in the seated position until the desired re-covering of the coupling ball.
  • it is possible to magnetically design any section of the protective cap in which case the protective cap with this section is then placed on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle.
  • the opening edge of the cup-like base body is magnetically designed.
  • the base body is only designed to be axially magnetic. Since the opening edge of the base body forms a flat ring surface, a particularly firm adhesive fit can be achieved on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, since the protective cap cannot carry out any rolling movements.
  • such an adhesive seat ensures that the ferro-magnetic part covers the opening of the protective cap, so that no dirt or the like can penetrate into the interior of the base body. In this way, when the protective cap is replaced on the coupling ball, an emery effect is avoided, which could be caused by grains of sand or dust that have penetrated.

  • At least one magnet is arranged on the underside of the ring flange. This can also be accommodated in a recess in the ring flange. • the outer circumferential surface of the protective cap 1 can be used as an ideal advertising medium. Imprints etc. can be attached here and advertising messages can be made.
