Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective cap for a coupling ball of a trailer coupling of a motor vehicle, consisting of a cup-like base body which can be slipped over the coupling ball to cover it and fixed there.
- This protective cap has a locking device which consists of a bolt which is rotatably mounted in an extension of the base body transversely to its longitudinal axis and which is assigned to the coupling ball in its closed position with a projecting and in its open position with a recessed circumferential surface. By rotating the bolt into an open position, the coupling ball is released so that the protective cap can be removed. If the bolt is in the closed position, the protective cap is permanently attached to the coupling ball. The locking device prevents the protective cap from detaching itself from the coupling ball and thus being lost.
- the invention is fundamentally based on another problem, which consists in the fact that for the use of the trailer coupling the protective cap is removed by the user, who must keep it until the coupling ball is covered again. This safekeeping is often not carried out carefully enough so that the protective cap is lost.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a protective cap of the type mentioned at the outset which can be safely stored without loss.
- the protective cap is designed magnetically in such a way that the protective cap removed from the coupling ball and fed to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle is held there in the adhesive seat.
- the user therefore simply removes the protective cap from the coupling ball and then assigns it to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, for example the chassis or the body panel, so that it automatically moves there due to its magnetic effects Holds in place and remains in the seated position until the desired re-covering of the coupling ball.
- it is possible to magnetically design any section of the protective cap in which case the protective cap with this section is then placed on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle.
- the opening edge of the cup-like base body is magnetically designed.
- the base body is only designed to be axially magnetic. Since the opening edge of the base body forms a flat ring surface, a particularly firm adhesive fit can be achieved on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, since the protective cap cannot carry out any rolling movements.
- such an adhesive seat ensures that the ferro-magnetic part covers the opening of the protective cap, so that no dirt or the like can penetrate into the interior of the base body. In this way, when the protective cap is replaced on the coupling ball, an emery effect is avoided, which could be caused by grains of sand or dust that have penetrated.
- a radially outwardly projecting annular flange is preferably arranged on the opening edge of the base body and is magnetic. This ring flange enlarges the contact surface on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, so that a particularly tight adhesive fit can be achieved.
- At least one magnet is arranged on the underside of the ring flange. This can also be accommodated in a recess in the ring flange. It is possible to close the magnets encapsulate if the base body is manufactured by plastic injection molding. Alternatively, however, it can also be provided that the magnet is glued to the ring flange or held there in the snap fit.
- a preferred further development of the invention provides that the ring flange made of plastic stands with embedded magnetic material. This magnetic material is finely distributed in the plastic material, so that no separate magnet has to be attached, so that the magnetic effect is “captive”.
- the base body from plastic.
- This plastic is preferably made impact-resistant. If no ring flange is provided, the plastic of the base body can also have magnetic properties.
- the ring flange can either be designed as a separate part and fastened to the base body, or a one-piece design with the base body is provided.
- FIG. 1 shows a side view of a protective cap, partly in a cut-open representation
- FIG. 2 shows a further embodiment of a protective cap with an axially outwardly projecting ring flange
- FIG. 3 shows the embodiment according to FIG. 2 with separate magnets
- Figure 4 shows an embodiment with an integrated magnetic material
- Figure 5 is a bottom view on the protective cap with separate magnet formation.
- FIG. 1 shows a protective cap 1 which has a cup-like base body 2 with an opening 3.
- the base body 2 consists of a cylindrical region 4 with a circular cross section and an adjoining frustoconical region 5.
- the protective cap 1 is over the coupling ball to cover it foldable. The coupling ball then lies in the interior of the cup-shaped base body 2 and is thus protected from dust etc.
- At least a section 6 of the protective cap 1 is designed magnetically in such a way that the protective cap 1 removed from the coupling ball assumes an adhesive seat there when it is assigned to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, that is to say it stays on due to their magnetic effects themselves.
- This magnetic section 6 can be on any Place the protective cap 1 be formed.
- this section 6 is located at the opening edge 7 of the opening 3.
- Either a separate magnet is arranged there or magnetic material 8 is embedded or embedded in the material of the base body 2 in the region of the opening edge 7 . This is represented by dots in FIG. 1.
- the base body 2 is preferably made of impact-resistant plastic. The production takes place in particular by injection molding.
- the configuration according to the invention has the advantage that the protective cap 1 removed from the coupling ball of the trailer coupling can be kept in a non-detachable manner on the motor vehicle, so that after use of the trailer coupling it is available again to cover the coupling ball. So it is not lost.
- the user simply looks for a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle and assigns the protective cap 1 to it. Because of its magnetic effect, it stays there in the detention position.
- FIG. 2 shows a further exemplary embodiment of a protective cap 1, which differs from the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1 in that a radially outwardly projecting ring flange 9 is formed on the opening edge 7 and has magnetic effects.
- At least one magnet 11 can be arranged on the underside 10 of the ring flange 9 be. This is preferably located in a recess in the ring flange (not shown) or it is injection-molded around with the plastic of the base body 2 (see FIG. 3).
- the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 4 differs from that in FIG. 3 in that instead of the magnet 11, finely distributed magnetic material 8 is embedded in the ring flange 9 there.
- FIG. 5 again shows an exemplary embodiment of a protective cap 1 with a ring flange 9, a bottom view with a view of the opening 3 being shown.
- four magnets 11, uniformly distributed over the circumference are attached to the underside 10 of the ring flange 9. This can be done for example by gluing or by clipping into recesses.
- the outer surface of the magnets 11 is preferably flush with the underside 10. This has the advantage that when the protective cap 1 is deposited on the ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, the opening 3 is covered so that the penetration of dirt and moisture etc. is prevented.
- the protective cap 1 consists of an elastic, stretchable plastic which is insensitive to heat and cold.
- the magnets are designed as permanent magnets and are preferably protected against corrosion.
- the protective cap can also be used for completely alien activities, so it is a particular problem, especially when delivering goods, that the deliverer holds a consignment note, delivery note, etc. in his hands when he opens his motor vehicle (tailgate) in order to Example of taking out the goods.
- the motor vehicle tailgate
- he can remove the magnetic protective cap 1 from the trailer coupling and fasten it to said ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle, the papers being placed between protective cap 1 and ferromagnetic part. These are then kept up and cannot be lost, in particular cannot be blown away by the wind.
- the protective cap 1 is also suitable for testing materials of magnetic and non-magnetic materials; it can therefore also be used as a test device for accident damage, for example when buying a motor vehicle, since it can be used to detect a spatula repair of a used car due to its lack of ferromagnetic effect.
- the outer circumferential surface of the protective cap 1 can be used as an ideal advertising medium. Imprints etc. can be attached here and advertising messages can be made.
