Definitions
- the invention relates to a flag pole consisting of a barrel provided with a bracket which carries a flag.
- flagpoles of this type are known which are very widely used in particular for deploying flags, flags or signs for advertising or decorative purposes, such as for example those described in patents US-A-3,323,486 or US- A-1,712,691.
- flag-pole masts have many drawbacks mainly due to the fact that the flag can only be set up or brought about by direct intervention at the level of the bracket or by maneuvering the bracket itself.
- the personnel must therefore be equipped with lifting devices or the mast equipped with lifting devices, which implies the assistance of a specialized maintenance company or a great complexity when maneuvering the jib.
- Another solution is to use drums rocking between their normal position and a quasi-horizontal position, but this maneuver is often difficult due to the installation of the drums near a public road or a congested space, which this is the case for example for car dealerships.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and, to do this, it is aimed at a flag pole, the flag of which is equipped with a rigid headline rope which can be maneuvered from the base of the barrel using halyards, securing means being provided between the bracket and the rope when the latter has been brought into the high position by the halyard.
- the rigid headline rope can be either a section sewn into a hem, or a section covering a stake such as a rope sewn into a hem.
- the shoe On the profile can be advantageously fixed a shoe to retain the end of the halyard and preferably, the shoe includes a receptacle capable of removably receiving said halyard end.
- the shoe receptacle has an enlarged lower part allowing the passage of the end cap of the halyard, a narrow upper part in the form of a slit allowing the passage of the halyard alone, the end cap the end of the halyard being retained by a locking neck, at the border between the lower and upper parts of said receptacle.
- the height of the lower part of the receptacle is at least equal to the height of the end cap of the halyard.
- the profile comprises at least one stop for holding the rope, and preferably a support stop will be placed at each end of said profile.
- the stop will consist of a bracket, which blocks the rope horizontally and vertically, this bracket being able to be fixed to the profile, advantageously to come to bear on the rope, the profile is in the form of an inverted U, the branches of the U being bent towards one another to retain the rope and the flag.
- the securing means consist of a housing for the headline provided under the bracket, housing whose seat for the headline is flared outward; in some cases, the housing for the headline provided under the bracket receives spacers comprising a seat for the headline flared outward; advantageously, the spacers are located at the ends of said housing.
- the headline and the upper part of the roof are thus sheltered from the weather and are effectively maintained in the housing under the bracket, and particularly in the case where said housing includes spacers whose flared seat further facilitates the setting in place of the rope when the roof is hoisted.
- the halyard is fixed to the central part of the headline then is wound on a first roller carried by the bracket.
- the shoe has a cut, in the vicinity of the roller when the rope has been brought to the high position, and preferably said cut is in an arc, to better match the shape of the roller.
- the cutting of the shoe makes it possible to approach the shoe of the roller as closely as possible, when the halyard is in the high position; as a result, the headline rope is better wedged and more sheltered under the stem, which considerably reduces the effects of various vibrations including those caused by the wind, therefore the risks of shearing the halyard.
- the first roller is located in the central part of the bracket.
- the first solution provides firmer support for the headline and therefore for the roof, especially if flared seats or equally flared spacers are provided for the rope at the ends of the housing. In fact, the pull on the headline exerted by the halyard at the end of the hauling up the bow slightly between these seats.
- the halyard circulates inside the bracket mounted on a rotating head, then inside the rotating head and the barrel which has in the vicinity of its foot an opening maneuver.
- the moving parts are then all sheltered from bad weather while the pavilion is free to orient itself according to the wind for the benefit of its duration and aesthetics.
- the side of the pavilion adjacent to the barrel carries sliding rings threaded onto the barrel.
- FIG. 1 a barrel 1 installed vertically on the ground 2 and provided with an opening 3 which can be closed by a cover. This opening makes it possible to maneuver the halyard which will be discussed later, either inside the barrel, or outside, using conventional methods and means which are outside the scope of the invention.
- the barrel 1 is surmounted by a bracket 4 which supports a pavilion 5 of elongated rectangular shape. Along its flank near the barrel, the pavilion 5 carries a series of rings 6 threaded on the barrel. These rings can be attached to the roof by various means which also fall outside the scope of the invention. The lower one is advantageously ballasted to ensure the deployment of the pavilion.
- Figure 2 shows the flag being hoisted or fitted. It can be seen that it is suspended from a halyard 7 by means of a rigid headrest rope 8.
- the barrel 1 is surmounted by a rotating head 9 comprising a stator 10 threaded onto the barrel 1 and held for example by bolts 11.
- the stator 10 is provided with an axial passage 12 for the halyard 7.
- the rotor 13 of the rotating head is held by the screw 14 inside a solid base 15 of the bracket 4.
- the latter consists essentially of an inverted gutter with decreasing section 16 coming from material with the foot 15 and which ends with an end 17 in quarter of a sphere.
- the gutter 16 is surmounted by a tunnel 18 held by a series of screws, such as 19, on the gutter 16 itself and on the foot 15.
- the gutter 16 receives, also integrally, two spacers 20 and 21 in the vicinity of its two ends. Each spacer forms a flared seat 22 for the headline 8.
- rollers 23 and 24 which cheeks are screwed on bosses 25 and 26, the first provided astride the foot 15 and the gutter 16, the second in the central part of the gutter 16, above of a light.
- the halyard which has traversed the barrel 1 is wound successively on the roller 23, then on the roller 24, so as to pass through the stator 10, then to circulate inside the tunnel 18, then finally to reach the headline to which it is fixed by means of a ball-shaped end protrusion 27 which has been introduced inside the headline through a buttonhole 28 followed by a slot 29.
- the rigid rope consists of a slightly elastic metal or plastic profile 30 sewn at 31 in a hem 32 of the roof 5.
- the headline is an inverted U-shaped section which is also slightly elastic 33 which covers a cord 34 sewn at 35 in a hem 36.
- a somewhat firm pull on the halyard 7 makes it possible to securely fix the headline 8 which is braced thanks to its slight elasticity between its two seats 22.
- the barrel 1 is surmounted by a rotating head 9 and we find the main elements described above, including the halyard 7 housed inside a bracket 4 containing two rollers 23,24, the horizontal axes of which are fixed in a conventional manner inside the latter; the roller 24 is fixed very high inside the bracket, without however hindering the circulation of the halyard.
- the bracket consists essentially of an inverted gutter with decreasing section 16, and has a flared seat 22 at each end to receive the headline 8 when the latter is brought into the high position.
- the headline consists of a slightly elastic metal or plastic profile 37, in the shape of an inverted U, covering a stake 38 such as a cord sewn into a hem 39.
- a shoe 40 is fixed by means of screws 40 'to the profile 37 at its central part, vertically from the roller 24; other means of fixing the shoe on the profile can be imagined, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
- Two angle-shaped stops 42 are fixed by screws 42 'each at one end of the profile after having been slipped inside of it and participate in the good maintenance of the rope in the profile.
- the end of the halyard 41 is slid and retained inside the shoe 40 in a receptacle 43 designed for and capable of receiving it in a removable manner.
- the receptacle has a fairly wide lower part 44, allowing the passage of the end piece 41 of the halyard, a narrower upper part 45 in the form of a slot allowing only the passage halyard but preventing the passage of the end cap thereof.
- Two notches 46, 47 are made at the border between the lower part and the upper part of the receptacle, thus producing a blocking neck 48 of the end of the halyard.
- the height H of the lower part of the receptacle is greater than that h of the end of the halyard, which allows this end to slide inside said receptacle without having to dismantle the shoe.
- the second embodiment works similarly to the first. However, it allows, thanks in particular to the very high position of the roller 24, to raise the headline as much as possible inside the bracket; this advantage is further increased, because the shoe has a cutout in an arc 49 by which, in the high position, it follows the shape of the roller, the profile coming to be housed in the position shown in FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, and in dotted lines in Figure 6.
- This embodiment is very advantageous, because by bringing the headline inside the stem, the latter is isolated from vibrations, in particular from wind vibrations and the halyard is no longer subjected to shearing phenomena which can affect its strength.
- the barrel 1 does not have to be provided for tilting, the maintenance teams do not have to have lifting means, the supply, maintenance, change and hoisting of the flag can be carried out quickly and easily by a few and not very specialized personnel.
- the barrel is not necessarily vertical
- the stem which may not be rotating, is not necessarily perpendicular to the barrel. It can be interrupted well before the end of the headline beyond the pulley 24, the profiles used to form the headline headline can be made of any sufficiently rigid material and have sections adapted to needs; the structure of the various elements, such as the stem, the profile, the shoe, the receptacle, etc. may vary without departing from the scope of the invention.
