Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a three-pole protection module with a short-circuit fuse.
  • Protection modules of this type are as such already known and used for the protection of low current lines and of the circuits connected to these lines. They ensure temporary or permanent grounding of the lines, in the event of overvoltages on them. They are in particular applied to ensure the protection of telephone lines.
  • Such a protection module comprises a three-pole surge arrester, having two electrodes and a ground pole, which is mounted in a plug-in box of the drawer type.
  • This box is equipped with connection contacts, connecting the electrodes of the arrester to the lines to be protected, and a ground contact connected to the earth pole of the arrester.
  • the solution recommended in EP-A-0027061 consists in associating with each electrode of the arrester an elastic blade mass, which is on the one hand retained by one of its ends on the arrester and on the other hand supported on a fuse pad interposed between this blade and the arrester.
  • the other end of this elastic strip thus comes opposite one of the corresponding electrodes of the surge arrester, remaining slightly distant from this electrode in the presence of the fusible pad or by being in contact with it as soon as the pad is melted.
  • the two elastic strips associated with the two electrodes of a three-pole arrester are end to end and form the same conductive part. The two fusible support pads of these blades ensure, as soon as they are fused, the two electrodes are short-circuited simultaneously.
  • the solution given in FR-A-2659504 is a single fusible patch and a double elastic mass blade in the bottom of a housing which receives the arrester and is closed by a cover.
  • the two blades of this double elastic blade are secured in their middle part.
  • the fuse pad chosen in plastic is retained on this middle part.
  • the arrester is retained in place in the housing on a ground contact and two connection contacts, which are fixed in the housing and each have a slot receiving in correspondence the pins welded to its ground pole and to its two electrodes.
  • the double blade belongs to the ground contact or is integral with it and electrically connected. It is pushed back, via the fuse pad, against the bottom of the housing by the arrester in place, so that its free double end is opposite but slightly distant from the two pins connected to the two electrodes, under normal operating conditions of the arrester. It relaxes elastically as soon as the pellet softens and melts so that this free double end then comes into contact with the two welded pins to the electrodes, thereby short-circuiting the arrester externally.
  • This three-pole arrester is miniaturized and has a cylindrical shape 1. It has its two electrodes 10 which are annular on its opposite end faces and an intermediate peripheral earth pole 11.
  • the two connection contacts 9 connected to the two electrodes have one of their ends retained and possibly welded to each of the electrodes. The other end of each protrudes under the cover, parallel to its inner face and on the same side.
  • the cover 7 has a semi-cylindrical notch 13 on its internal face, adapted to the shape of the arrester which is housed there.
  • This notch is provided over the width of the cover, substantially along its minor median axis.
  • the fusible tab 8 of this cover leaves transversely to the cover, substantially from one of the edges of this notch and forms a terminal tab 8A folded parallel to the cover and extending opposite this notch 13.
  • the internal face of this terminal tab itself has another cylindrical notch 14 opposite the previous one and adapted with it to the adequate holding of the arrester under the cover and then in the housing of the housing.
  • the notch 13 is only open on one side, on a first of the two long sides of the cover and, on the other hand, forms a stop 13A for the arrester equipped with its link contact 9, connected to its corresponding electrode ( Figure 2).
  • the other link contact 9 connected to its other terminal electrode likewise remains in slight withdrawal on the first long side of the cover.
  • the peripheral edges of the inner face of the cover are adapted to the edges of the housing 3 of the housing, to enclose the arrester in this housing 3.
  • the blocking in place of the cover is provided by a stud 15 and two opposite studs 16 projecting from the inner face of the cover, in the middle part of its small edges parallel to the notch 13. To these studs correspond a hole 17 and two other holes 18 receiving them , in the housing 2.
  • the housing 2 forming a plug-in drawer, the two connection contacts 5 and the earth contact 6 that it carries, as well as the two connection contacts 9 connected to the two electrodes of the arrester and carried with it under the cover are specified opposite. of Figure 1 and of at least one of Figures 3 to 6.
  • the housing 3 is defined in the middle part of the drawer, along its length. It is delimited on the bottom 20 of the drawer on the one hand by the two side walls 21 of the housing and on the other hand two transverse partitions 22 and 23, the aforementioned hole 17 being provided in the partition 22 and the two holes 18 in the partition 23 and being open on the upper edge of these partitions.
  • connection contacts 5 are mounted and retained in two longitudinal grooves 25 provided for their purpose in the underside of the bottom 20.
  • each of these grooves opens directly into a notch 25A provided at each end of the rear edge of the bottom 20.
  • each of them is on the other hand closed by an end stop 25B but has a quasi-terminal opening 26 provided through the bottom itself and extending in front of the partition 22.
  • connection contacts 5 are each formed by a narrow blade, the ends of which are folded in opposite directions and one blocked in the notch 25A and the other against the corresponding stop 25B. They have their flat central part having a hole 5C for holding them in place in their groove, on a boss 25C in the latter. Each contact 5 has, on either side of its central part, slight bends in one direction or the other, making arched and projecting its terminal parts under the bottom 20 for the rear and front 5A and 5D and on the bottom 20, through the opening 26, for that before 5B.
  • the terminal parts 5A and 5D of these contacts 5 are connected by pressure on a pair of connected lines to be protected by the module. Their end parts 5B are connected to the connection contacts 9.
  • the so-called rear partition 23 of the housing 3 is adapted to the ground contact 6. It has its flat internal face, on the side of the housing, which simply has a central indentation 30 extending over part of its height from the bottom 20 (FIGS. 5, 6). Its central part 23A, on the other hand, is slightly protruding from the external side on its lateral parts 23B, the latter being of thickness made less for the purposes of slight flexibility. The two lateral parts 23B are also slightly less in height than that of the central part and have their upper end chamfered in rounded shape, on the internal face of the partition.
  • the ground contact 5 received on the partition 23 corresponds to it at a short distance from its internal face, in the housing 3, two lateral guide tabs 31, facing and of the same height as the lateral parts 23B and having their chamfered upper end opposite each of them, and a central locking tab 32 of the same height as the previous ones and with an upper edge also chamfered and forming a snap hook 32A, opposite the 'notch 30 ( Figures 4 and 5).
  • a central rear rib 35 extends from the rear partition 23 onto the rear part of the bottom 20.
  • the ground contact 6 is constituted by a cut and folded blade, which is described by considering it in place or positioned for its positioning on the partition 23. It has a vertical central portion 36, of support against the internal face of the partition 23, over practically the length thereof.
  • the contact 6 further comprises on the one hand two rear lateral connection tabs 37 bent at an angle greater than 90 ° on the central portion, which each end in an upper connection boss 37A , and on the other hand a front central leg 38, protruding above this upper edge and folded in rounded forwards, which ends in elastic connection spring 38A, of slightly reduced width and of arcuate shape adapted to that circular of the earth pole 11 of the arrester.
  • a hole 39 is provided in the central portion 36 and the adjoining part of the central tab 38, for blocking the contact 6 in the latching hook 32A.
  • this ground contact comprises two elastic branches 40 which are practically lateral and horizontal, which are connected to each other by a central leg 41 and have their free ends 40A widened and projecting towards the outside of branches.
  • These branches 40 extend in the lower part of the housing and are applied under pressure against its bottom by the fusible tab 8 and the arrester in place on the cover 7.
  • Their ends 40A are positioned opposite the so-called front partition 22 of the housing .
  • the cover Opposite the rear lateral tabs 37 of this earth contact 6 and the upper chamfers on the lateral parts 23B of the partition 23, it is noted that the cover also has two corresponding chamfers 7B on the ends of the rear edge of its lower face (FIGS. 1 and 2).
  • this same cover has two lateral imprints 7A for receiving two lugs for connecting a mass external to the lugs 37 of the mass contact 6.
  • the so-called front partition 22 is adapted to the connection contacts 9, which are received in the housing.
  • This partition 22 simply has its side portions 22B of very low height on the bottom 20, relative to its central portion 22A.
  • lateral parts are also of thickness also less than that of the central part, the latter protrudes over them towards the gripping head and is coupled to it by a longitudinal stiffening rib 42, separating the openings 26 from the bottom 20 and s' extending over the length of the head 4.
  • connection contacts 9 are identical and each consists of a cut and folded blade. They are described by considering them connected to the electrodes of the arrester in place or in the position of installation in the housing, with the housing closed.
  • Each of these two contacts has a first end portion 45, vertical, which is of semi-circular shape and has three pins 46 on one of its so-called inner faces. These pins are embedded and are fixed in one or the other of the two electrodes of the arrester.
  • This first part 45 is coupled by an outwardly folded tab, substantially horizontal and called the central part 47, to a second end part 48, horizontal.
  • This horizontal end portion 48 protrudes from the central part, essentially only on the inner side of the connection contact 9 considered, and has a slight bending making it horizontal level slightly lower than that of the central part.
  • This central part 47 rests on the edge of one or other of the lateral parts 22B of the partition 22, and also extends in the housing 3 above the bottom 20.
  • the horizontal end portion 48 is positioned in its opening 26 in the bottom 20, at the front of the partition 22 ( Figures 4 and 5).
  • the end 48A of this terminal part 48 is folded upwards and is locked against a transverse rib 52, slightly projecting from the bottom 20 in front of the openings 26 of this bottom.
  • This transverse rib 52 has for this purpose on each side of the longitudinal rib 42 a retaining pawl 52A of each contact 9 in place ( Figures 3, 5 and 6).
  • the arrester carried by the cover on the fusible tab is precisely positioned in the housing 3, by the cover 7, the tongue 8 of which bears on the central leg 41 of the earth contact 6 and urges it against the bottom 20 of the housing, by the connection contacts 9 received and positioned in the housing, as well as by the elastic spring 38A of the central tab of the earth contact.
  • This precise positioning is obtained directly by fitting the fitted cover, which locks onto the housing.
  • the operation of the protection module is easy to understand, with reference to this FIG. 5 in particular and by considering it introduced into a cable head while ensuring the electrical continuity of the pair of telephone lines that it protects.
  • the terminal part 8A of the tongue 8 which in itself retains the arrester under the cover, prevents the branches 41 of the ground contact 6 from going back into the housing, this for normal operating conditions of the arrester, that is to say in the absence of a fault on the lines or during a flow of a fault current of low value or temporary through the arrester, for which the heating resulting from the arrester remains limited.
  • the greater heating of the arrester leads to the softening of the terminal part 8A of this tongue 8.
