Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for cleaning containers disposed on a pal let in several layers stacked one on top of the other.
- Containers such as for example crates made of plastic material or the like, which are used for transporting vegetables and fruit, must be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis in order to prevent fouling and/or the spreading of germs and the like.
- the object of the invention is to obtain a method and a device, whereby an efficient and effective cleaning of the containers can be realized by means of a device of comparatively compact construction.
- the transport of containers usually takes place on pallets, whereby the containers are disposed on a pallet in several layers stacked one on top of the other.
- a quick processing of containers in layers may be realized, whereby the containers can be restacked on a pallet in a quick and simple manner at the end of the cleaning treatment.
- a particularly efficient device for carrying out the method according to the invention is obtained when the device is provided with means for removing the containers layer by layer from the stack, and with means for moving said layers of containers one behind the other through a washing room, in which means are provided for spraying a cleaning liquid on to the containers.
- An important advantage of the invention is furthermore the fact that also the pallets themselves can be cleaned in succession along with the containers in the device.
- Figure 1 is a schematic plan view of a part of the device according to the invention, near the end at which the containers are supplied to the device.
- Figure 2 is a schematic side view of the part of the device shown in Figure 1.
- Figure 3 schematically shows a part of the device illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, near the end of the device where the container is discharged from the device.
- Figure 4 schematically shows a pallet carrying several layers of containers stacked one on top of the other.
- Figure 5 shows the pallet illustrated in Figure 4 with layers of containers in a position turned through 180°.
- Figures 6 and 7 schematically illustrate the destacking of a number of layers of containers stacked one on top of the other.
- Figure 8 is a schematic plan view of a plurality of filler bodies.
- Figures 9 - 12 schematically illustrate the placing of containers on the filler bodies and the subsequent moving apart of the filler bodies apart so as to carry out the cleaning process, whereby Figures 9 - 11 show the filler bodies in sectional view along the line X - X.
- Figure 13 is a schematic plan view of another embodiment of a device according to the invention.
- Figure 14 is a larger-scale sectional view of Figure 13.
- Figures 15 and 16 schematically show a part of a mechanism for moving crates present on a platform with respect to each other.
- Figures 17 and 18 are schematic plan views of a platform supporting crates with the crates arranged in various positions.
- the device shown in Figure 1 comprises a schematically indicated rotary conveyor 1, into which containers supplied on pallets may be introduced.
- FIG 4 several layers of containers 3 are generally stacked one on top of the other on a pallet 2, each layer comprising several containers, such as for example cases for containing vegetables and/or fruit.
- a pallet loaded with a stack of containers may be placed on a tilting device 4 schematically indicated in Figure 1, by means of which the pallet with the containers present thereon can be turned through 180° from the position shown in Figure 1 to the position shown in Figure 5, in which latter position the pallet 2 lies on top of the containers.
- the tilting device 4 is also reciprocatingly movable in the direction indicated by the arrow A, so that a stack of containers with the pallet 2 lying on top thereof can be introduced into the rotary conveyor 1.
- the containers are thereby rotated inside the rotary conveyor, as is indicated by means of the arrow B, whereby the containers are kept immersed for some time in a bath containing a cleaning liquid, in order to soak the dirt adhering to the containers.
- the containers are removed layer by layer and for example passed through the washing room 5 by means of an endless conveyor 6 only partially and schematically illustrated.
- Figures 6 and 7 schematically show a possible manner of destacking the containers.
- gripping means 7 may be provided, which respectively grip the containers constituting the lowermost layer of containers but one and subsequently move said lowermost layer of containers but one with the containers placed on top thereof and the pallet 2 upwards for some distance. Then the lowermost layer of containers can be gripped by the further gripping means 8 and be moved sideways from its position under the remaining containers so as to be delivered to the endless conveyor 6 or the like, as is shown in Figure 7. Then the remaining stack of containers may be put down by the gripping means 7, whereupon the above-described operation may be repeated again. It will be apparent, that in this manner the containers can be introduced into the washing room 5 in succession, in order to be treated in layers there.
- each layer of containers is thereby supported by an assembly of filler bodies 9 forming part of the endless conveyor 6 or the like, whereby the number of filler bodies of an assembly corresponds with the number of containers constituting one layer, whilst the shape of each filler body is adapted to the inner space in the container.
- the containers may for example be rectangular cases or crates 10, provided with a bottom 11 and upright walls 12.
- the filler bodies 9 are slightly tapered upwardly, as is apparent in particular from Figure 9.
- the layer of containers moved by means of the gripping means 9 may now be brought to a position above an assembly of filler bodies 9 and be placed on said filler bodies, as is indicated by means of the arrow D in Figure 10.
- the upwardly tapered shape of the filler bodies 9 it is effected thereby that some clearance is present between the inner boundary planes of the upright walls 12 and the side walls of the filler bodies 9.
- the spaced-apart containers forming part of a layer may now be passed through the washing room in the direction according to the arrow F ( Figures 1, 3) by means of the conveyor 6, whereby the containers forming part of a layer will stay together in a desired pattern after all.
- the containers may thereby be passed through a first part 13 of the washing room, where a cleaning liquid supplied under high pressure is sprayed on to the containers by suitable spray means. Then the containers may for example be passed through a room 14, where a disinfectant or the like is sprayed on to the containers. In a further room 15 of the washing room spraying of the containers may for example take place in order to remove said disinfectant, whilst any drying of the containers may take place in a room 16.
- a tilting device may be disposed in a room 17, by means of which tilting device a layer of containers can be removed from the filler bodies 9, which have been moved together for that purpose again, and be turned through 180° in order to be stacked in layers together with other layers of containers on a pallet already passed through the device beforehand, as is schematically indicated in Figure 3.
- Spraying elements may be provided in the filler bodies for directly spraying the inner sides of the bottom and the upright walls of the containers. This is particularly important when containers having a closed bottom and/or closed side walls are to be treated.
- the filler bodies 9 may for example be provided with means for ultrasonically vibrating said filler bodies, which appears to have an advantageous effect on the cleaning of the containers placed on the filler bodies.
- Figures 13 and 14 show a device provided with a circular washing room 18, which accommodates a rotary conveyor which is rotatable about a vertical axis.
- Platforms 20 for receiving the containers to be cleaned are suspended from the rotary conveyor by means of lifting mechanisms 21. Furthermore a conveyor belt 22 is disposed near the device for supplying pallets loaded with containers. Said pallets carrying containers are supplied to a device 23 for turning the pallets and for supplying the containers to the washing room 18 in layers.
- the device 23 is provided with gripping means 24, by which the lowermost layer but one of a stack of containers can be gripped and moved upwards in a similar manner as described above, in order to move the lowermost layer 25 onto a platform 20 in the manner schematically illustrated in Figure 14.
- reservoirs 26 are disposed inside the washing room 18, which reservoirs may contain suitable liquids, in which the containers placed on the various platforms may be successively immersed. Thus one or more reservoirs may contain a soaking liquid, whilst one or more reservoirs contain cleaning liquid and possibly also spray nozzles, by means of which the cleaning liquid can be sprayed on to the containers with great force.
- a reservoir containing a disinfectant may be provided, if desired, as well as a reservoir for rinsing the cleaned cases.
- a drying compartment 27 may be disposed inside the washing room.
- the containers are moved layer by layer from the platforms 20 intermittently passed through the washing room 18 on to a stacking device 30 again, where a number of layers of containers may be restacked on a pal let which has likewise been passed through the washing device.
- a pallet carrying a stack of containers may subsequently be discharged by means of a conveyor belt 31.
- shafts 32 are provided near the sides of each platform 20, said shafts being reciprocatingly pivotable in the direction according to the arrow H.
- a number of fingers 34 are secured to each shaft 32, said number corresponding with the number of cases or the like which is arranged in a row along the respective side of the platform, three in the illustrated embodiment.
- the cases may be moved apart by the arms 34 by pivoting the shafts 32 with the arms 34 attached thereto, as is indicated by arrows in Figure 18.
- the movement of the cases 35 towards the outside is limited by stops 36.
