Definitions
- Texts and codes are particularly important here, which e.g. the content of a package, the type of a Good and possibly a destination for transportation of a piece goods included.
- Such general cargo can be local in very large and inhomogeneous Quantities occur, e.g. for shipping companies, mail order companies, Mail and parcel distribution systems, but also when accepting and Distribution of parts in large-scale production plants, e.g. in an assembly plant for motor vehicles.
- For transportation and to distribute these general cargo quantities are usually fast-running conveyors, e.g. Treadmills, used.
- fast-running conveyors e.g. Treadmills
- the resulting binary image data are then in a computer evaluated.
- the goal is to understand the meaning of captions contained in the total amount of image data, i.e. decrypt texts, in particular, fully automatically.
- texts contained in the image data with With the help of a so-called OCR program (optical character recognition) in coded and thus machine-readable form be transformed. After evaluating them, it is then possible fully automatically, in particular, pertaining to the general cargo perform control engineering actions.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of a device indicate which is a reduction in optical Scanning the surfaces of conveyed over conveyor belts General cargo in the manner described above binary image data in such a way that only possible those image data to a computer for further processing which are fed on top of each Piece goods correspond to lying surface segments. The remaining, quasi only the background data should be able to be discarded beforehand.
- the device is thus intended to detect the electronic Edges of the optical object to be scanned may be that a targeted selection of only the surface of the Piece goods reproducing image data is feasible.
- the invention has the advantage that the amount of a computer effectively forwardable for further processing, i.e. binary image data containing evaluable text and image content compared to the total amount of one optical Samples of the image data obtained as described above can be significantly reduced.
- a computer effectively forwardable for further processing i.e. binary image data containing evaluable text and image content compared to the total amount of one optical Samples of the image data obtained as described above can be significantly reduced.
- Letter sorting systems has the consequence that the original Image data volume of approx. 30 Mbytes per second less than 15 Mbytes per second can be reduced.
- FIGS. 1 to 4 illustrated scanning of a letter surface explained in more detail.
- the invention is also for other types General cargo of various types applicable.
- the device according to the invention contains according to the top view in Figure 1, a conveyor with at least one Conveyor belt for general cargo. Its surface has a to the brightness of the visible surfaces of the stationary ones Areas of the conveyor as complementary as possible Brightness on.
- the conveyor advantageously has a plurality of stripe-shaped, so spaced apart Conveyor belts on that in between the surfaces of the stationary areas of the transport device are visible.
- Such an embodiment is already shown in the figures, example four strip-shaped conveyor belts 3,7,11,15 with an exemplary darker surface over a stationary base of the transport device run along, which is a complementary, exemplary has a lighter surface.
- the widths are advantageous the strip-shaped, side-by-side conveyor belts 3,7,11,15 and the surfaces of the next to it and in between visible stationary areas 1,5,9,13,17 approximately same size.
- the conveyor belts move into the one on the left side of the picture each represented by an arrow in the Y direction.
- the one in between located space quasi a recording field for General cargo.
- a letter 25 is located the receiving field delimited by the driving wedges and with a longitudinal edge 31 on the quasi rear row 21 of the Driving wedges attached, transported in the Y direction.
- the device according to the invention serves to reduce the amount of brightness intensity values, which are determined by scanning the surface of one for transporting in particular flat Partial goods conveyor can be obtained. To this end, it extends approximately transversely to the conveying direction Y an electronic scanner for line-shaped detection of brightness intensity values I (x, y) over the entire Width of the exemplary four conveyor belts 3, 7, 11, 15 in Figure 1, i.e. in the X-direction, and the ones next to and in between visible surfaces of the fixed areas 1,5,9,13,17.
- an electronic line scan camera ZK with two laterally arranged, preferably rod-shaped Lighting units L1, L2.
- the ZK line scan camera detects the lines in a so-called scan line 23 current brightness intensity values lying in the X direction or intensity gray values I (x, y) and leads them to a program-controlled Computer PC for further processing to.
- the device according to the invention has in the case in FIGS to 4 illustrated example concretely the task by Sampling of the wedges between the two rows 19.21 lying area obtained digital image data if possible so reduce that only between the front and rear longitudinal edge 29.31 and the two side edges 33.35 of the letter 25 lying digital image data, i.e. the brightness intensity values reflecting the letter surface, cached for the purpose of further processing become.
- the program-controlled Computing unit PC in a first memory a sequence of over the width of the conveyor belt and visible surfaces of the stationary areas occurring in the absence of a piece good Stores brightness intensity values, and in a second Store current brightness intensity values as long as when comparing with the corresponding values or with Value groups from the saved sequence deviations occur.
- the program-controlled computing unit groups of comparable, neighboring brightness intensity values from the sequence of if there is no piece goods, brightness intensity values occur by some kind of averaging to reference intensity values together and stores them in the first memory.
- those marked in black are shown Brightness intensity values located in areas of the scanning gap 23 each viewed as a group and by one
- the type of averaging is combined into a reference intensity value. So the surfaces of the conveyor belts 3,7,11,15 the reference intensity values I3, I7, I11, I15 and den next to and in between visible surfaces of the stationary Ranges 1,5,9,13,17 the reference intensity values I1, I5, I9, I13, I17 can be assigned. In the course of across the width intensity values occurring in the conveyor device according to FIG 2, these reference intensity values I1 ... I17 are approximate lying in the middle of the respective intensity range also entered.
- the program-controlled computing unit in a second memory when scanning the surface the conveyor used for the transport of piece goods current brightness intensity values only then deposited as long as the comparison with the corresponding Values or with value groups from the in the first memory stored sequence or the reference intensity values deviations occur.
- Image data is discarded, which is only the pure surface the conveyor, i.e. the surfaces the conveyor belts and the fixed areas. This Compare data to capturing those of interest Surfaces of piece goods represent the background.
