Definitions
- the invention relates to an optical code reader with a Optical scanning device according to the preamble of the claim 1.
- the scanning device can e.g. according to the DE-PS 23 40 688 as parallel scanner or e.g. according to DE-PS 36 00 578 can be designed as a V-scanner.
- the light is received each preferred by autocollimation.
- Known code readers are usually by means of an external Trigger signal, the so-called reading gate signal, in the active Brought state in which the scanner tries to one on the objects in the reading area to identify ordered code. If successful, sends the code reader sends the information to the higher-level system; otherwise the system receives an error message.
- an external Trigger signal the so-called reading gate signal
- the aim of the present invention is an optical To create code readers of the type mentioned at the outset, which also includes objects in the reading area without one recognizes code identifiable by the evaluation electronics.
- the invention thus delivers without external control devices for the code reader the higher-level system not only in the case of successful identification of an item code the corresponding information, but provides the code even if the code reading is unsuccessful Host the information associated with this situation is available, that is, the existence of no code at all or an object with a defective code in the reading area is recognized.
- the code reader according to the invention thus has the ability to hold an item independently of one Recognize and confirm code identification.
- the light reflecting Means with two essentially in the direction of movement of the objects Identification codes arranged offset from one another is provided, which can be detected by the scanning device, evaluable in the item recognition level and thus for Detection of the direction of movement of the objects is suitable are.
- the scanning device must be designed in this way be that they are two side by side in the direction of movement of the objects can scan and recognize lying codes. If an object in the area of the two identification codes is moved first an identification code and then both identification codes hidden by the item. If both Identification codes are different from each other determine which of the two identification codes is covered first, from which then on the direction of movement of the respective item can be closed. The object always comes from the side on which the first hidden identification code.
- a method should also be protected in which the scanning device provided for the code reading is also able to place one behind the reading area to recognize light reflecting agent, provided it is not covered by an object.
- the code reader according to the invention and the method according to the invention are geared towards the use of the for operation necessary components of the higher-level system.
- the Code reader is limited in its by the scanning or opening angle Field of view, but outside of its maximum reading distance for common standard barcodes supplemented by the application-specific one Object length is presented by a reflector Presence is checked periodically.
- the light reflecting Provides funds when trained as a reflector Claim 2 or 3 of the scanning device an identity signal, by orders of magnitude (up to a factor of 100) above the reception services to be achieved with standard barcodes and thus offers a reliable plausibility criterion.
- Farther can be in one embodiment of the light reflecting Be provided with a special barcode, identifying the operating mode in all environmental conditions can be highly reliable.
- the existing code reader modules are used.
- the code reader is aligned to the application Boundary conditions cyclically switched on and off. Subsequently first finds an intensity measurement or a Decoding process for the special barcode of the light reflecting Means instead. This improves over the free running Reading operation because of the shorter operating times of the Laser diode the availability for the code reader.
- For identification and decoding of the light reflecting agent coming light becomes the with regard to large signal strength Modified signal conditioning compared to the standard scanner utilized.
- the interface to the barcode decoder is for barcode reading and recognition mode of the light reflecting agent are identical.
- the barcode discrimination so the ability to distinguish between different code types, is a standard feature and provides no additional for the inventive method Heel Requirements.
- the control panel of the code reader reacts to the shadowing of the light reflecting By means of and thus the missing detection of the light reflecting agent with the state "reading gate active” and passes this on to the higher-level system, which now again the information from the object identification expected. With the redetection of the light reflecting By means of the state "reading gate inactive" and expected the following object.
- Procedure or code reader a statement about the presence of objects with or without an unreadable barcode which would otherwise have an additional sensor system would have to be procured.
- Figure 1 is arranged on a conveyor belt 23
- Object 16 in the direction of arrow P on an optical Scanner 11 moves past, which one in an angular range B performing a cyclic scan, from a light transmitter 27 and e.g. a mirror wheel, not shown generated light beam to one above the conveyor belt 23 existing, essentially rectangular reading area 14 directs one perpendicular to the central light beam 12 having front surface 13, which in turn is vertical stands on the surface of the conveyor belt 23.
- the middle one Scanning light beam 12 of the scanning device 11 should also at least substantially perpendicular to the direction of the conveyor belt P stand.
- On the scanning device 11 facing surface 16 'of Item 16 has a bar code 15 attached to it, whose bars are at least substantially perpendicular to the scanning direction S of the light beam 12 run.
- a reflector Seen from the scanning device 11 behind the reading area 14 and preferably also behind the conveyor belt 23 a reflector, preferably designed as a retroreflector 18, which has a special reflector bar code 20 and so arranged relative to the scanner 11 is that in the absence of an object 16 in Reading area 14 the scanning light beams reach the reflector 18, what is indicated by dashed lines in FIG. 1 at 12 '.
- the reflecting surface of the reflector 18 is designed in this way and arranged that the incident light at least is largely reflected back to the scanning device 11.
- two are horizontal Direction spaced from each other and from each other Different barcodes are provided by scanning them concluded on the direction of movement of the object 16 can be.
- a photo receiving arrangement 19 is provided, either light reflected by the object 16 or by the reflector 18 receives and a corresponding electrical signal to one Evaluation electronics 17 that outputs an object detection level 21 and an item identification level 22 having. Appears at output 24 of evaluation electronics 17 a signal that a parent, not shown System not just the detection and content of a captured Item codes 15 reports, but also a message outputs whether there is any object 16 in the reading area 14 is or not.
- the scanning device 11 is an application-oriented Switching device 25 is always switched on cyclically, if it runs through in the application in question of an object 16 is expected by the reading area 14.
- An equal output signal is achieved when on the reflector 18 a special reflector code 20 is arranged, recognized by the item recognition stage 21 as such becomes.
- the item recognition level recognizes 21 that there is now an object 16 within the reading area 14 is located. This will in the subsequent item identification level 22 a reading gate opened, see above that when the item code 15 enters the reading area 14 the latter, if it is in perfect condition, identified can be.
- output 24 one appears for the mere presence representative of an object 16 in the reading area 14 Signal. If an item code 15 is then identified, output 24 also outputs an object identification signal delivered to the higher-level system.
- the reflector 18 If there is discrimination between existence and non-existence of an object 16 by the reflector 18 reflected light quantity, it is important that the front surface 16 'of the scanning device 11 facing the Objects 16 themselves are not too reflective having. However, should the items be 16 trade those with highly reflective surfaces the special reflector identification code 20 is attached to the reflector 18, which makes the system independent of the subject 16 or the reflector 18 reflected amounts of light becomes.
