  • the needle protector consists of a tube that can be moved externally along the syringe body.
  • the tube is permanently attached to the rear end of the actuator. This end is equipped with a disc for applying a finger when the syringe is actuated.
  • the actuating plunger and the needle protector are moved simultaneously and cover strokes of the same length.
  • the minimum stroke of the needle shield has a length equal to the sum of the lengths corresponding on the one hand, to the length of the syringe body which is filled with the liquid to be injected and on the other hand, to the length of the needle - guille projecting from the body to which is added a stroke preventing a finger from touching the end of the needle.
  • the plunger In order to allow the needle guard to move beyond the end of the needle, after the injection, the plunger should be free to slide in the syringe body over a length substantially equal to the length of the needle section projecting from the syringe body.
  • the syringe body must be of great length, while only the rear part of the body is actually intended to contain the liquid to be injected.
  • the needle in order to withdraw the liquid, the needle should protrude inside the syringe body. Thus, the needle cannot be interchangeable.
  • the object of the invention is to provide an injection syringe making it possible to reduce the length of the syringe body, thus making it possible to use standard and interchangeable needles.
  • the subject of the invention is an injection syringe of the aforementioned type, characterized in that it includes means for releasing the coupling means for separating the actuating plunger and the needle protector. , during the final phase of fitting the needle protector.
  • the injection syringe comprises one or more of the following characteristics:

  • the syringe body 12 has a cylindrical glass tube 18, open at its two ends.
  • the liquid to be injected, denoted 20, is retained inside the glass tube 18 between a front piston 22 and a rear piston 24.
  • the latter are made of elastomer.
  • the glass tube 18 is extended by a needle holder 26 forming the front wall of the syringe body.
  • the front end of the tube 18 is fitted into the needle holder 26
  • the needle support 26 delimits a chamber 28 for receiving the front piston 22.
  • This chamber extends the duct delimited by the glass tube 18. It has a length slightly greater than that of the front piston 22. In addition, it has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the front piston 22 in order to ensure that it is blocked by jamming.
  • a longitudinal channel 30 opening at one end inside the glass tube 18 and at its other end in an injection passage 32.
  • the latter is formed axially in a stud external 34 intended to receive the injection needle.
  • the external surface of the stud 34 is substantially frustoconical and defines a luer cone of dimensions suitable for the reception of standard injection needles.
  • the stud 34 is surrounded by a skirt 36 made of material. This skirt has internally a thread intended to cooperate with tabs provided on the fitting end for standard needles.
  • a cap 38 is fitted onto the skirt 36 to protect the fixing end of the needle.
  • the glass tube 18 carries a finger support ring 40 fitted and glued.
  • This finger support ring forms an annular projection around the tube 18. It further comprises two ears extending radially. These form supports for two fingers of the hand during the injection.
  • the actuating plunger 14 comprises on the one hand, the rear piston 24, and on the other hand, a rigid plunger rod 42 whose front end is engaged inside the syringe body 12. This front end is provided with a threaded stud 44 received in a corresponding recess in the rear piston 24, in order to ensure their axial connection in both directions.
  • the push rod 42 has a generally tubular shape. It has at its rear end a flared section 46. This section is bordered at its free end by radial fingers 48 distributed at the periphery of the piston rod. The flared section defines with the current part of the rod 42, a shoulder 49.
  • the needle protector 16 generally has the form of a tube or sleeve 50. This is made of an elastically deformable semi-rigid material. It comprises along a part of its length, two diametrically opposite longitudinal slots 51 adapted for the passage of the ears of the finger support crown 40. Furthermore, the needle protector 16 comprises at its rear end, a disc or washer 52 intended to support the thumb during injection. This washer is snap-fastened to the rear end of the tube 50.
  • the protector 16 comprises means 54 for translational coupling of the pusher 14 and the protector 16. These means 54 ensure that they are secured in both directions. They comprise a ring of radial lights 56 passing through the wall of the tube 50. In these are engaged the radial fingers 48 provided at the rear end of the push rod 42.
  • the front and rear edges delimiting the openings 56 cooperate with the fingers 48 to secure the piston and the protector respectively towards the rear and towards the front.
  • means 58 are provided for releasing the coupling of the pusher 14 and the protector 16.
  • the release means 58 include internal projections 60 delimiting ramps 62 adapted to cooperate with the finger support ring 40, in order to locally deform the tube 50 in the region of the radial slots 56.
  • the projections 60 are progressively increasing in thickness towards the rear of the syringe and end with straight fronts 64 bordering the apertures 56.
  • the ramps 62 thus converge towards the axis of the syringe in the direction of the rear of the syringe. They constitute cam surfaces adapted to cooperate with the periphery of the finger support ring.
  • the support disc 52 is very slightly greater than the total length of the largest standard needle that can be mounted on the syringe. In practice, this length is very slightly greater than one inch (2.54 cm), and is for example 2.6 cm.
  • snap-fastening means 66 adapted for locking the protector needle in its active protective position in which the front end of the guard is in front of the injection end of the needle.
  • the snap-fastening means 66 comprise elastically deformable tongues projecting towards the inside of the tube 50. These tongues define ramps 68, the normal of which is oriented towards the front of the syringe.
  • the ramps 68 are adapted to cooperate with the periphery of the finger support 40, by forming a cam surface ensuring their elastic deformation when they cross the finger support crown 40 during the movement of the protector 16.
  • the internal surface of the protector 16 is frustoconical and widens towards the support disc 52.
  • the internal diameter of the protector is equal to the external diameter of the push rod 42 to its end carrying the fingers 48.
  • the glass tube 18 is first filled with the liquid 20 to be injected which is confined therein between the two pistons 22 and 24.
  • the front end of the glass tube 18 is then equipped with the needle holder 26 and the protective cap 38.
  • the push rod 42 is screwed into the rear piston 24.
  • the protective tube 50 provided with the disc 52 is finally engaged around the syringe body . It is mounted around the finger support ring 40 by elastic deformation.
  • the fingers 48 penetrate inside the apertures 56, by elastic deformation of the tube 50 when the projections 60 are crossed by the fingers 48.
  • the practitioner first removes the protective cap 38 and equips the needle holder 26 with an injection needle 70 provided with a tip 72 with glow cone, as is shown in FIG. 2.
  • the plunger 14 is then gradually inserted into the syringe body, by pressing on the disc 52.
  • the depression of the actuation plunger 14 causes the pistons 22 and 24 to move simultaneously in the syringe body and liquid 20 to be injected.
  • the front piston 22 then enters the chamber 28 as shown in FIG. 3.
  • the length of the chamber 28 being slightly greater than that of the piston 22, the liquid 20 is free to flow through the longitudinal channels 30.
  • the front piston 22 being immobilized, the liquid to be injected flows through the channels 30 to reach the injection needle 70.
  • the practitioner then proceeds to the injection in a conventional manner.
  • the rear piston 24 comes into contact with the front piston 22, all the liquid 20 contained between them has been evacuated through the injection needle 70.
  • liquid 20 initially contained in the syringe must be associated, during an extemporaneous mixing, with an active substance contained in an intermediate container, the liquid 20 is injected into the container by depressing the pusher 14.
  • the practitioner extracts the plunger 14 from the syringe body by pulling on the rear end of the tube 50. Under the action of the depression formed between the front pistons 22 and 24, the preparation is recalled inside the syringe body 12.
  • the diameter of the chamber 28 being slightly smaller than the diameter of the piston 22, the latter remains blocked in the chamber 28 when the injectable preparation is resumed.
  • the injection is then carried out as described above.
  • the syringe is in the position shown in FIG. 4.
  • the practitioner By continuing to apply a force to the disc 52, the practitioner causes the local deformation of the tube 50 in the region of the means 54 for coupling the plunger 14 and the needle protector.
  • the protector 16 moves in the direction of arrow F4 of the tube 50, the push rod 14 is immobilized relative to the syringe body on the one hand, by the support of the rear piston 24 against the front piston 22 , and secondly, by the support of the shoulder 49 on the finger support ring 40.
  • the needle guard continues to move until the front end of the needle guard is in front of the injection end of the needle, as shown in Figure 5.
  • the snap-in tabs 66 fold down in front of the finger-support crown 40, thus locking the needle protector 16 in its active protective position, preventing a return of the latter by traction exerted on the tube 50.
  • the fingers 48 provided at the rear end of the push rod 42 are immediately in front of the disc 52, where the internal diameter of the protector is adapted for receiving the latter.
  • the dessoiidarisation of the plunger and of the protector at the end of injection, during the final phase of fitting the needle protector, makes it possible to reduce the length of the syringe body.
  • the syringe body can be equipped with a standard needle fixed by luer cone, since it is not necessary for the needle to extend inside the syringe body.
