Definitions

  • the invention relates to a dryer-ironer. in which the linen is ironed between a cylinder of heated ironing and one or more endless belts which are in contact with the cylinder on part of its circumference.
  • the dryer-ironer according to the invention can be used in all cases where quantities relatively large amounts of laundry should be ironed frequently. So and only as for example, such a machine can in particular be used in hospitals, retirement homes, hotels, pensions, restaurants, etc.
  • ironing items are introduced one after the other between a cylinder rotating, generally horizontal, and one or more multiple endless bands that are in contact with the cylinder over its entire length and over part of its circumference.
  • Heating means placed at the inside of the cylinder carry the metal wall of this one at a determined temperature, chosen so to ensure efficient ironing of the laundry.
  • the heating means which are placed at the inside of the ironing cylinder are different types, depending on the machines. So these means of heaters may include a gas train, heating resistors, heating devices infrared, etc.
  • the ironing cylinder has a cylindrical wall relatively thick. This wall is generally made of steel. It has thermal inertia relatively large, due to its thickness.
  • clothes dryers heated ironing cylinder in which the heating of the cylinder is ensured by a fluid coolant such as oil.
  • the fluid coolant is heated in a boiler located at outside the machine, before being routed into the cylinder by a pump, also placed outside the machine.
  • Such a machine does not have the disadvantages of dryer-ironers, the ironing cylinder is heated by means of heating integrated into this cylinder. Indeed, the permanent circulation of the heat transfer fluid allows ensure efficient heat distribution over the entire length of the cylinder and therefore give it a substantially uniform temperature over its entire length even after the passage of a room of laundry in the machine.
  • the subject of the invention is precisely a dryer-ironer with heated ironing cylinder, presenting both the advantages of simplicity of heating machines integrated into the cylinder and advantages of uniform heat distribution over the entire length of the cylinder of machines whose cylinder is heated by a heat transfer fluid.
  • a dryer-ironer comprising a ironing cylinder provided with a cylindrical wall and able to rotate around an axis of said wall, and heating means placed inside the cylinder, so as to heat the cylindrical wall, characterized in that the cylinder further comprises a wall exterior, surrounding the cylindrical wall so as to define with it a closed annular chamber, filled with a heat transfer fluid, and means for mixing capable of creating a circulation of the fluid coolant inside said chamber, said stirring means comprising organs placed in the annular chamber.
  • the ironing cylinder is heated from the inside by heating means traditional, which can be any, as in existing machines with cylinders heated from the interior.
  • heating means traditional can be any, as in existing machines with cylinders heated from the interior.
  • the use of a cylinder double walled ironing, filling the closed annular chamber thus defined by a fluid coolant and the use of mixing means of this fluid integrated into the cylinder ensures efficient heat distribution over the entire length of the cylinder without appreciably increasing the complexity and price of the machine.
  • the aforementioned organs are organs passive, placed in the annular chamber so as to create circulation of the heat transfer fluid when the cylinder rotates around its axis.
  • These passive organs include, for example, fins carried by the cylindrical wall, these fins being inclined relative to the axis of the cylinder, so as to cause a displacement of the fluid coolant parallel to the cylinder axis, when the rotation of it.
  • the fins have a height substantially equal to the thickness of the chamber annular, so as also to support the outer wall of the cylinder.
  • the heat transfer fluid is a liquid which only fills part of the annular chamber. This liquid is surmounted by a neutral gas, so that the annular chamber also acts as a vase expansion.
  • stabilizing elements such that balls are then placed in the liquid to oppose a rotation of it with the cylinder when the latter rotates about its axis.
  • the aforementioned organs are partitions arranged in a baffle in the annular chamber, for delimit between the cylindrical wall and the wall outside of the cylinder back and forth substantially parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
  • Ways brewing then further comprise means such as a pump to circulate the heat transfer fluid along this path.
  • the outer wall preferably has a thickness less than that of the cylindrical wall.
  • the outer wall of the cylinder is advantageously made of stainless steel and the cylindrical wall of ordinary steel.
  • At least one end of the outer wall is surrounded by a drain space externally delimited by a fixed casing.
  • a valve is then mounted in the aforementioned end of the wall outdoor to allow communication between the annular chamber with the drain space, in case overpressure in said chamber.
  • a pipe connects the drain space to a tank, in order to ensure a flow of the heat transfer fluid by gravity.
  • the dryer-ironer comprises an ironing cylinder 10 as well as one or more endless bands 12 which are in contact with the cylinder 10 over its entire length and over most of its periphery.
  • This kind of machine is well known to those skilled in the art, so that only the characteristics necessary for good understanding of the invention will be described.
  • the ironing cylinder 10 is supported by a fixed frame (not shown) so that it can freely rotate around an axis 14 substantially horizontal.
  • Endless belts 12 are supported and guided by rollers 16 carried by the chassis of the machine.
  • the axes of rotation of the rollers 16 are parallel to the axis 14 of the ironing cylinder 10.
  • One any of the pebbles 16 is likely to be rotated by a gearmotor (not shown) so that it can be moved endless bands 12 in the direction of the arrows on the figure 1. This displacement results in a rotation of the ironing cylinder 10 in the same direction and at the same speed.
  • the ironing cylinder 10 is equipped internally heating means of any kind known type, likely to bring the cylinder to a temperature chosen to ensure ironing efficient laundry.
  • These heating means 18 can be any means of heating such as electric resistances, a gas train, a device infrared heating, etc. without going beyond the scope of the invention.
  • the laundry items are introduced, one after the other, between the ironing cylinder 10 and the endless belts 12, in the upper part of the machine. They walk then between the cylinder and the endless bands, to stand out in the lower part of the machine.
  • the cylinder of ironing 10 has an original structure which now be described with reference to Figure 2.
  • the cylinder of ironing 10 includes a cylindrical wall 20, centered on axis 14 and made of a metal such as steel ordinary.
  • the thickness of the cylindrical wall 20 is chosen to ensure good mechanical strength of the cylinder, practically without deformation, during ironing. This thickness varies for example between 4 mm and 6 mm depending on the size of the cylinder.
  • the heating means 18 are placed inside the cylindrical wall 20.
  • the cylindrical wall 20 is doubled externally, over practically its entire length, by a cylindrical outer wall 22, also centered on the axis 14.
  • the outer wall 22 is made in stainless steel and it has a thickness significantly lower than that of the cylindrical wall 20. More precisely, the thickness of the wall cylindrical 20 is at least twice that of the wall exterior 22, which may for example vary between 1.5 mm and 2 mm depending on the size of the cylinder ironing.
  • the outer wall 22 is mounted concentrically and at a distance from the cylindrical wall 20, for example by means of two rings 24 welded to proximity of the ends of the cylindrical wall 20 and on which the ends of the wall are welded exterior 22.
  • annular chamber closed 26 of uniform thickness, which is filled with less in part of a heat transfer fluid.
  • the ironing cylinder 10 is also equipped with means integrated brewing systems, designed to provide circulation of the heat transfer fluid contained in the closed annular chamber 26, when the cylinder of ironing 10 rotates around its axis 14. More precisely, the brewing means have the function to circulate the heat transfer fluid at the same time parallel to the axis 14 of the cylinder, so to homogenize the temperature, and between the walls 20 and 22, in order to transmit to the outer wall 22 the heat given off by the heating means 18.
  • At least one of ends of the outer wall 22 of the cylinder ironing 10 is surrounded by a drain space 28, bounded inward by said outer wall 22 and, outwards and on the sides, by a casing fixed 30. Sealing devices such as seals turning 31 carried by the fixed casing 30 ensure the tightness of the drain space 28.
  • a valve 32 mounted on the end of the outer wall 22 surrounded by the drain space 28, allows to connect the room annular 26 with said drain space, in particular when the pressure in chamber 26 exceeds a threshold predetermined.
  • the bottom of the drain space 28 communicates with a reservoir 34 through a pipe 36.
  • This line 36 is arranged so as to ensure gravity flow of the heat transfer fluid collected in the drain space 28 to the tank 34.
  • the means for stirring the heat transfer fluid to the interior of the annular chamber 26 can in particular be of the passive type.
  • the stirring means include passive organs such as fins 38 placed in the annular chamber 26, so as create the desired circulation of heat transfer fluid when the cylinder 10 rotates about its axis 14. More specifically, the fins 38 are arranged so as to bring the heat transfer fluid from the ends of the annular chamber 26, towards a central region of this one. To this end, if we consider that the cylinder is formed by two sections placed end to end, the fins 38 can in particular take the form of propellers coiled in one direction on a first of these sections and wound in the other direction on the other section, the direction of the windings being such that the heat transfer fluid is brought from the ends to the center when the ironing cylinder 10 rotates around its axis 14.
  • the fins 38 are fixed on the cylindrical wall 20, for example by welding, and they have a height substantially equal to the thickness of the annular chamber 26, this thickness being, for example, about 5 mm.
  • the fins 38 thus also serve as a support for the outer wall 22, which we have seen that it usually presented a relatively reduced thickness compared to that of the cylindrical wall 20 of the cylinder 10.
  • This arrangement preserves a shape geometric satisfactory for the outer wall 22, which is used directly for ironing laundry when the machine is in operation.
  • the passive organs materialized by the fins 38 in FIG. 3 can take significantly different forms, without departing from the scope of the invention. So the helical fins 38 can be replaced by substantially planar fin sections in order to reduce the manufacturing cost of the machine.
  • the heat transfer fluid contained in the chamber ring finger 26 usually consists of a liquid such as an oil capable of ensuring transfer efficient heat between the cylindrical wall 20 and the outer wall 22, under the conditions of ironing temperature.
  • a liquid such as an oil capable of ensuring transfer efficient heat between the cylindrical wall 20 and the outer wall 22, under the conditions of ironing temperature.
  • the heat transfer liquid 40 only fills part the annular chamber 26.
  • the part upper of the annular chamber 26 is filled with a neutral gas. Room 26 then acts as a vase expansion.
  • active stirring means for moving the fluid coolant in the annular chamber 26 formed between the cylindrical wall 20 and the outer wall 22 of the cylinder.
  • These active stirring means allow move the heat transfer fluid independently of the cylinder rotation.
  • Active stirring means include then partitions 44a, 44b, 44c arranged in a baffle at inside the annular chamber 26, so that delimit between the cylindrical wall 20 and the wall outside 22 of cylinder 10 a back-and-forth path, oriented substantially parallel to the axis 14 of the cylinder.
  • Active stirring means include also drive means, such as a pump 46, mounted on the cylinder so as to circulate the heat transfer fluid along the path delimited by the partitions 44a, 44b, 44c.
  • the partitions 44a, 44b, 44c delimiting the aforementioned path are fixed on the cylindrical wall 20 and extend over a height substantially equal to the thickness of the chamber annular 26, so that they also serve of support to the external wall 22, like the fins 38 in the first embodiment of the invention.
  • the aforementioned partitions include a partition circumferential 44a, placed near one of the rings 24, so as to define therewith a channel annular 48.
  • a certain number of rectilinear partitions 44d, also parallel to the axis 14, are evenly distributed over the entire circumference of the cylinder, between the circumferential partition 44a and the ring 24 furthest from this partition, on either side on the other, rectilinear partitions 44b and 44c.
  • the rectilinear partitions 44b, 44c and 44d thus delimiting, between them, axial channels 50.
  • circumferential partition 44a is interrupted, between the two rectilinear partitions 44d closest to the straight partition 44c, for communicate the axial channels 50 adjacent to this with the annular channel 48.
  • one in two of the partitions 44d is interrupted, in turn, at proximity of the ring 24 furthest from the partition circumferential 44a and close to said partition circumferential.
  • the straight wall 44b is also interrupted near the ring 24 the further from the circumferential wall 44a. More precisely, the arrangement is such that the two partitions straight 44d closest to the bulkhead 44b are interrupted near the circumferential partition 44a and that the two partitions straight 44d closest to the bulkhead 44c are interrupted near the ring 24 furthest from the partition circumferential 44a.
  • the adjacent axial channels 50 thus communicate with each other alternately at a end and to the other of the cylinder. We define this way a back and forth path, for the fluid coolant, parallel to the axis of cylinder 10.
  • the pump 46 is carried by the cylinder 10 and connected to the annular channel 48, on either side of the straight wall 44b, via suction lines 51 and discharge 52.
  • the ironer-dryer has a relatively structure simple and inexpensive.
  • the cylindrical wall 20, which is not in contact with the ironing cloth can be made of steel ordinary.
  • the amount of stainless steel can therefore be reduced, compared to an existing machine, by the outer wall 22 has a thickness lesser.
  • the presence of the heat transfer fluid between the two walls of the cylinder and the circulation of this fluid heat transfer medium by passive stirring means or assets that equip the cylinder allow to equalize the temperature of the outer wall 22, in contact with the linen, throughout the ironing period.
  • the quality of ironing is thus very noticeably improved compared to ironer dryers ironing cylinder heated from the inside which exist to this day.
