- the machine 1 includes a road wheel 2 in frictional engagement with the road surface to which a rumble strip is to be applied. Extending substantially horizontally from the axle 4 of the wheel 2, and forwardly thereof, is a support bar 6. Mounted on the bar is a paint head carriage 8 having anti-friction rollers 10 engaging the upper and lower surfaces of the bar. The carriage is constrained to be movable in both directions along the bar. As it does so, the carriage comes into contact with two microswitches 12 positioned on either side of the centre point of its range of travel. The switches 12 are positioned at adjustable points on an auxiliary support bar 14, for reasons that will be discussed below.
- an upright member 16 Extending upwardly from the bar 6, at its meeting with the axle 4, is an upright member 16 carrying a slave wheel 18 at its upper end. Extending radially from the axis of the wheel 18 is a drive bar 20 having a rod 22 pivotally coupled to it. Associated with the drive wheel 2 is an auxiliary wheel 24. Engaging both the wheel 24 and the wheel 18 is a flexible drive member 26 in the form of a chain or belt. By means which are not shown, the member 26 is kept in tension despite changes in its length because of temperature changes and wear. The effect of member 26 is to ensure that the bar 20 is rotated at a speed which is related to the speed of rotation of wheel 2. As the end of the bar 20 moves in a circle, it causes the carriage 8 to be moved along the bar in simple harmonic motion by force transmitted to the carriage by rod 22, acting alternatively as a strut and a tie.
- the carriage 8 has mounted on it a spray head 28 for paint, and one 30 for ballotini used to increase the reflectivity of the applied paint.

Claims (6)
- Machine (1) destinée à appliquer une peinture sur des surfaces routières sous forme de nervures épaisses (32), comprenant une barre (6) destinée à être déplacée le long de la route à une vitesse uniforme et en ligne avec l'axe de la route, la barre portant un chariot (8) monté de façon à subir un mouvement de va-et-vient le long de la barre, le chariot portant au moins une tête de pulvérisation (28) pour projeter un jet de peinture sur la surface de chaussée sous-jacente, le chariot, au cours de son déplacement, étant destiné à actionner des interrupteurs dont la position est ajustable, interrupteurs qui commandent les parties de la trajectoire du chariot le long de la barre, sur lesquelles la peinture est appliquée sur la route.
- Machine selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle la barre est supportée en une extrémité par une roue (2) en prise par friction avec la route, la rotation de la roue étant convertie en un mouvement de va-et-vient du chariot (8) le long de la barre (6).
- Machine selon la revendication 2, dans laquelle, outre la tête (28) de pulvérisation de peinture, le chariot porte aussi une tête (30) pour projeter des ballotines et/ou des particules d'un matériau absorbant l'eau dans le jet de peinture sortant de la tête de pulvérisation (28).
- Machine selon la revendication 3, dans laquelle la peinture sort de la tête de pulvérisation (28) dans une direction essentiellement verticale, les particules pénétrant dans le jet de peinture en faisant un angle aigu avec la surface de la chaussée.
- Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, les interrupteurs étant deux micro-interrupteurs (12) montés sur un support auxiliaire (14) s'étendant parallèlement à la barre (6), les interrupteurs ayant leurs organes d'actionnement situés dans le trajet du chariot, et étant positionnés d'une manière ajustable le long du support auxiliaire.
- Machine selon la revendication 3 ou la revendication 3 et toute revendication dépendant de cette dernière, dans laquelle le matériau absorbant l'eau est une résine échangeuse d'ions.
