Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for removing a printing plate from a plate cylinder according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Printing plates are usually thin metal foils having a surface that defines an image to be printed.
  • the printing plate is mounted on a plate cylinder which is rotatably mounted in a printing unit. After inking the plate, the ink is transferred from the imaging surface of the printing plate to the material to be printed in a rotary printing press. In offset printing, the printed image is first transferred from the printing plate to a blanket and then from the blanket to the paper or another substrate.
  • the useable surface of the pressure plate extends from its trailing edge to its leading edge.
  • the channel between the leading and trailing edges of the plate becomes increasingly narrow so as to minimize the non-printing channel strip on the plate cylinder.
  • the releasing step may comprise displacing a tensioning bar within an open channel of the plate cylinder and retracting a bearing surface of the tensioning bar over a lateral surface of the plate cylinder.
  • the step of deforming may comprise pressing the pressure plate in the direction of the lateral surface of the plate cylinder in the vicinity of the clamping strips projecting beyond the lateral surface.
  • the printing plate can be pressed with a pressure bar of an automatic plate changing device of the printing unit to the lateral surface of the plate cylinder.
  • the step of peeling may include placing a guide fork associated with an automatic plate changer in the vicinity of the plastically deformed trailing edge, rotating the plate cylinder to slide the trailing edge onto the guide fork, and bending the plate away from the plate cylinder during rotation of the plate cylinder will continue.
  • the invention is best suited for use with narrow plate channels, i. where the leading and trailing edges of the printing plate are held in a gap of less than 5 mm, preferably even less than 1 mm.
  • the invention ensures that the printing plate is reliably picked up by the automatic disk changer. This guarantees, for example, that the automatic plate change with cylinders with a narrow channel, which e.g. Used in conjunction with a seamless blanket, can be done reliably.
  • the guide fork can be rotated so that its tip can pick up the leading edge of the printing plate (the edge most recently removed from the cylinder) and move the leading edge away from the locking element. Due to the translational movement of the guide fork, the leading edge is essentially pushed away from the plate gap.
  • Fig. 1 shows a plate cylinder 1 with a shaft journal 2, which is rotatably mounted about a rotatable shaft 3 in the machine frame of a printing unit.
  • the plate cylinder 1 has an open channel 4, in which a locking element 5 is located with a clamping bar 6.
  • a plate 7 is located on the plate cylinder 1.
  • the plate 7 extends from an edge portion, referred to as leading edge 8, along the surface of the plate cylinder 1 to the opposite edge portion, referred to as trailing edge 9.
  • the leading and trailing edges 8, 9 are held in the plate cylinder 1 so as to minimize the plate gap.
  • the plate gap may be less than about 5 mm and even less than 1 mm.
  • the trailing edge 9 and leading edge 8 contact each other to reduce the plate gap as much as possible.
  • the clamping of the clamping bar 6 can be solved by the clamping bar 6 is moved axially out of the channel 4.
  • the term "axial” refers to the axis of the open channel 4 that extends along a secant of the cylinder 1.
  • a pressure bar 10 which is generally used to provide the pressure bar Insert leading and trailing edges 8, 9 of the plate in the nip by pressing the plate edges in the direction of the plate cylinder 1.
  • the pressure bar 10 can be used to plastically deform the pressure plate 7 so as to ensure that an automatic plate changer can reliably remove the plate 7.
  • the plate cylinder 1 is rotated counterclockwise until the pressure bar 10 is positioned just below the clamping bar 6. At this point, both the pressure bar 10 and the clamping bar 6 are operated with the intermediate plate.
  • the pressure bar 10 can also be operated after the clamping bar 6 or vice versa.
  • the plate 7 Since the clamping bar projects beyond the cylinder jacket, the plate 7 is plastically deformed along a bending line 11, so that it protrudes outwards and away from the plate cylinder. The trailing edge 9 no longer springs back into the clamping gap, not even when the clamping bar 6 moves back into the channel 4. At this point, the plate 7 is ready for removal by the automatic disc changer, and a guide fork 12 (see Fig. 3) of the disc changer can reliably grasp the disc and, when rotating the cylinder 1, transfer it to the disposal magazine in a clockwise direction. When turning the plate cylinder 1, the trailing edge 9 of the plate 7 (in Fig. 1 to the left) is pushed away by the guide fork 12 from the plate cylinder 1.
  • the inventive method can be realized without the installation of additional devices in the printing unit.
  • the plate 7 can be permanently deformed with existing devices.
  • FIG. 3 an additional feature of the invention is shown.
  • the guide fork 12 of the disk changer is pivotally mounted.
  • the plate cylinder 1 is rotated clockwise, so that the plate is inserted into the shaft between the guide fork 12 and a guide 15 until the front end of the guide fork 12, the front edge 8 of the plate 7 reached.
  • the guide fork 12 is slightly rotated clockwise (about 5 ° to 20 °), and due to the translational movement of the free end of the Guide fork 12 jumps the leading edge 8 of the plate 7 out of the gap.
  • the plate removal device with its grippers and / or rubber suckers removes the pressure plate safely without the aid of the movement of the guide fork.
  • the leading edge 8 gets stuck in the region of the gap and the automatic removal is not guaranteed satisfactory.
  • Such a situation then requires the intervention of the operator with the associated time delay in disk removal. The otherwise one to two minute automatic plate change would then take considerably longer and the downtime between print jobs is significantly extended.
  • the pivotal movement of the guide fork 12 is indicated by an arrow 13. After the release of the front edge, the removal process can then be continued by pulling the plate 7 completely out of the shaft between the guide fork 12 and the guide 15 and placing it in the corresponding removal magazine.
  • Fig. 4 which shows a further variant, could after removing the pressure plate 7 from the plate cylinder 1, the curved front edge 8 of the plate 7 hang in the shaft 4 or get caught at the front end of the guide fork 12. It is therefore advantageous according to the invention to bend back the leading edge 8 and flatten the end portion of the plate 7 substantially.
  • the locking mechanism is closed after the trailing edge 9 is securely in the extraction shaft between the guide forks 12 and 15.
  • the clamping bar 6 can be opened after flattening the plate 7 and the plate can be removed without the otherwise obstructive curved portion bounding the front edge 8.
  • Another advantage of eliminating the bend on the leading edge 8 is seen when the used printing plate is deposited in the removal magazine. This is usually achieved by passing the plate through press rolls which edge the bent plates "flatten", so as to ensure a straight plate edge.
  • the pre-bending with the guide fork 12 ensures that the press rolls do not bend the plate in the wrong direction, thereby actually reinforcing the bend at the leading edge.
