- the identification of a vehicle usually includes at least identification of the vehicle registration number. Depending on the type of carried out, it may also include a number of elements additional information relating to the identification of specific features of that vehicle or to its occupants, generally relating to offenses committed by the driver or passengers, eg speeding, lack of safety belt, use of a mobile phone by the driver etc.
- Offenses can be detected using devices such as a radar, a laser or a pair of pneumatic detectors in the case of speed control.
- a camera is triggered after detection of the offense, to provide an image of the vehicle for reading the license plate and usually to see the driver's face (or another element in the passenger compartment representative of a possible offense: a laptop in the driver's ear, a seatbelt not put, etc.).
- Document FR 2 797 081 describes a method and an apparatus identification of a registered motor vehicle for identification purposes of vehicles.
- the method described is particularly suitable for the identification of vehicles equipped with retro reflective plates.
- two photographs are taken successively, one with a flash of powerful flash to get a good picture of the driver's face through the windshield glass, the other with a less powerful flash of flash to get a good picture of the license plate.
- the identification of registration number is thus achieved with the help of a specific photo, a another photo allowing the identification of the driver's face.

- the filter can transmit only the signals of the infrared spectral band.
- a filter performing similar operations can in another mode in the optical device 10a or between the 10a optical device and the sensor 10b (it is in this case preferably placed on the sensitive area of the sensor 10b).
- the filter in the shooting system 7 (inside or upstream of the optical device 10a, or between the optical device 7a and the sensor 7b) reducing the intensity of the signals of the infrared spectral band.
- the filter can transmit exclusively the signals of the band spectral visible.
- the processing module 11 is adapted to apply digital processing to I1 images and I2 relating to a vehicle 16 and stored in the memory 12.
- This treatment makes it possible, for example, to isolate the plate image fraction F corresponding to the license plate on the image I2 supplied by the camera system 10, by referring to a base, also stored in memory 12, of models plate standards.
- a character recognition program can then be applied to the F- plate image fraction.
- This character recognition program provides N number of license estimated from the fraction F image plate, with a confidence score associated P N.
- the module 11 applies for example a treatment digital image on the image 11 obtained by the shooting system 7, allowing to isolate the driver's face from the vehicle 16 (in one embodiment other, it can isolate the representation of the windshield of the vehicle and of what appear through it, or isolate the seat belt or the telephone portable hand held by the driver).
- the set of digital data corresponding to the images I1 and 12, and / or the estimated registration number N with the associated confidence score P N , and / or to the image fractions F plate and F face , and to the Speed violation V are then selected and assembled, and then delivered by the control box 9 to the transmission block 13.
- the image 11 may be sent with only the fraction F visible face (and the other parts of the image 11 hidden) to preserve private information (in particular, the passenger (s) can not be identified).
- the image processing module 11 will be able to reconstruct a single image I from the images I1 and I2, providing the representation of both the driver's face and the license plate (this in order to reduce the volume of data to be transmitted while retaining relevant information).
- the transmission block 13 compresses, shapes at least some of these data (depending on the chosen embodiment), then the sends, via the communication link 14, to the exploitation center 15.
- the administrative operations for example: editing and recording the report infringement comprising the data sent by the transmission block 13, the amount of the fine corresponding to the infringement committed by the driver of the vehicle 16, determination of the driver's from the estimated number of the license plate and sending the statement infringement.
- the number of data transmitted by way of transmission is thus limited and can be further reduced by compression techniques. Account given the image processing implemented according to the invention, the data numbers sent on the transmission channel (s) are very reduced, relevant and of good quality.
- a method and system according to the invention provides a representation the number plate of a vehicle and the driver's face, only requires a flash of flash. They avoid obtaining images unusable in the prior art due to the characteristics of very different reflections of the various elements that can appear in the image. They are particularly suitable for the characteristics of strong reflection in infrared plate and low transmission of new windshields treated to prevent the passage of infrared rays in the passenger compartment and therefore overheating, this for the purpose of passenger comfort.
