Definitions

  • the present invention refers to a system for sharing personal multi-language medical-health data and to a process for managing said data.
  • the present invention solves a need that in the latest years has been given an always increasing importance.
  • a local hospital assistance that is as much as possible complying with their own health condition and coherent with their own general anamnesis and with clinical examinations and possible therapies and/or previous surgical interventions; in order to guarantee such service, it is obviously necessary that each structure aimed for health assistance, whichever its geographical location is, can easily and quickly access updated medical-health data related to the individual requesting assistance.
  • the CD card moreover, though having high memory capability, has the inconvenience of the delicacy of its physical structure, being particularly subjected to accidental scratches and breaks that makes it difficult or impossible to use, above all in particular environmental situations. Moreover, all the above systems do not provide for a uniform medical language and do not allow an international use, these latter characteristics being surely the most qualifying aspects for a modern health information system.
  • Object of the present invention is solving the above prior-art problems, by providing a system for sharing personal medical-health information that, by employing a portable memory device with very small encumbrance and that is structurally sturdy, allows quickly consulting the medical-health data related to the user that are stored therein on any personal computer, even a portable one, without the help of dedicated hardware or software, thereby allowing a physician to quickly intervene in coherence with the general user anamnesis, above all in cases of emergency.
  • a further object of the present invention is providing a portable memory device in which all user' s medical-health data are stored in all world languages, using the standard terminology complying with the provisions of the World Health Organisation (WHO) , allowing in this way to consult and understand the history and the clinical situation of a user without ambiguities or delays, whichever and wherever the hospital structure that must treat him, is located.
  • an object of the present invention is providing software for computers, even for portable computers, that allows entering, updating, reading, processing medical-health data and storing them in a local data base and in the portable memory device.
  • Such device 1 is composed of a main body 2, equipped with interface means 3 of a USB type, for connecting to and exchanging data with the above electronic processors 10, 20, and containing a mass memory (for example of the Flash type) , a transmission controller for USB adapted to control the interface means 3 of the USB type and a mass memory micro-controller operatively coupled with the above transmission controller and the above mass memory; the micro-controller is further equipped with a software code that controls its operation and that allows modifying the contents of the mass memory of the device 1 only when this latter one is connected to a computer 10, even a portable one, equipped with the software for managing the personal medical-health data according to the present invention, and prevents the modification of data when instead it is connected to a computer 20, even a portable one, that is not equipped with the above software.
  • a software code that controls its operation and that allows modifying the contents of the mass memory of the device 1 only when this latter one is connected to a computer 10, even a portable one, equipped with the software for managing the personal medical-health data according to the
  • the mass memory of the memory device 1 cannot be accessed for writing and formatting without the intervention of the managing software according to the present invention.
  • a displaying software is further stored, that allows reading the medical-health data stored therein on any computer 20 not equipped with the managing software according to the present invention.
  • the memory device 1, as described above, allows obtaining several advantageous aspects that are well adapted to reach the objects of the present invention; these aspects mainly are:
  • the main body 2 is made of heat-welded plastic material but it can be made of another metallic or precious material though keeping the absolute water-tightness through known sealing techniques;
  • the mass memory of the device 1 is aimed to contain all medical-health data related to the system user; such data have been, as a non-limiting example, structured in the present invention into three sections :
  • Identifying and emergency data that are directly accessible since mandatory in case of emergency comprise:
  • Health data (whose reading on computer 20, even of the portable type, not equipped with the managing software according to the present invention, is constrained by the issue of a password) are the user's case history completed with: general anamnesis: pathologies, immunisations, allergies and other anamneses, listed in rigorous chronological order; clinical notes containing physician's objective examinations, diagnoses, results of specialist and instrumental examinations, drug therapies and related posologies prescribed to the patient in addition to the physicians' names that treated the patient; release reports related to possible hospital recoveries; certifications and examinations (diagnostic and instrumental examinations, specialist visits, certificates, etc.).
  • Service data (whose reading on computers 20, even of the portable type, not equipped with the managing software according to the present invention is not possible) comprise personal information of a reserved character like those related to one's own physician and health structure to which one belongs and other data that it is deemed useful to enter for interactions with public health information system, with insurance system and with systems of other private operators in the field.
  • the above medical-health data related to the system user according to the present invention are entered and updated on the memory device 1 through a managing software according to the present invention, residing on computers 10, even of the portable type, in health structures and medical studies, whose operation is shown in Fig. 1 and 2.
  • FIG. 1 shows the flow diagram of the step of firstly entering the procedure for managing medicalhealth data according to the present invention; after having connected the computer 10, even of the portable type, and the device 1 through their respective USB interface means, the patient's personal data are entered Fll and the patient's clinic, therapy and drug data are entered F12, for example by means of a keyboard; afterwards, all data are stored F13 on a temporary working data base and, after a confirmation of entered data F14, data are stored F15 in an historical data base residing on the computer 10, even of the portable type, and ⁇ transferred F16, together with the displaying software, into the mass memory of the device 1.
  • the managing software has also a data base available containing the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) (over 18,000 items) filled-in by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in all languages, that allows automatically transferring information on the device into all world languages and in compliance with the ICD.
  • ICD International Classification of Diseases
  • WHO World Health Organisation
  • FIG. 2 shows the flow diagram of the step of updating the procedure for managing medical-health data according to the present invention
  • the software takes care of downloading F200 on its own temporary working data base all data contained in the mass memory of the device 1; for updating the data, the patient's updated personal data are entered F21 and the patient's updated clinical, therapy and drug data are entered F22, for example by means of a keyboard; afterwards, all data are again stored F23 onto a temporary working data base and overwritten onto the previous ones; herein below, after confirming F24 the entered data, the updated data are filtered F25 depending on storage needs of the structure that is performing the update and, following a confirmation of entry F26, are stored F27 into an historical data base residing on the computer 10, even of the portable type, and are transferred F28 into the mass memory of the device 1.
  • the device 1 Every time therefore the device 1 is given to an authorised health operator, and therefore is equipped with the managing software according to the present invention, the same device- 1 updates the historical data base of the operator, depending on information contained therein and acquired previously and afterwards by ' entering new and further data.
  • the device 1 in this way is always completed with all information, becoming the update pilot for every historical data base of the authorised health structures/medical studies in which the device 1 is introduced. In this way a complete copy of all information contained in the device 1 will always be on the historical data base of the authorised health structure/medical study that performed the latest update.
  • FIG. 3 shows the flow diagram of the step of reading the procedure for managing medical-health data according to the present • invention; after having connected the computer 20, even of the portable type, and the device 1 through their respective USB interface means, the displaying program residing in the mass memory of the device 1 is started F31 according to the procedures of the operating system of the computer 20; alternatively such starting can occur in "autorun” (automatic execution) according to known modes; afterwards, the language is selected F32 in which it is desired to read the information; afterwards, once having extracted F33 all information related to user identifying and emergency data from the multi-language data base residing in the mass memory of the device 1 in the selected language, these data are displayed F25; in order to proceed with the display of health data F36, it is necessary to enter and recognise a password F35 by means of the displaying program.
  • the contents of the device 1 can never be modified nor integrated by other files of any type, since they are protected by hardware and software devices that prevent the access to its writing and formatting.
  • the displaying and consulting of essential stored data deemed as freely accessible (emergency data, drugs and related current patient's posology and anamnesis) , as well as descriptions of fields, messages, help notes and so on can be performed also abroad by any health operator that is simply equipped with a computer, even of the portable type, since the system has specific functions available for selecting the language into which it is desired to read all information.
