Definitions
- the invention relates to a security paper sheet for the production of security or valuable documents and the like with at least one intaglio print motif with a raised relief structure.
- the invention further relates to a corresponding production method.
- Security and value documents the commercial value or value of which far exceeds the material value, are usually identified by suitable measures as genuine and distinguishable from counterfeits and counterfeits. They are usually provided with special security elements that are ideally not or only with great effort imitable and not falsified.
- security elements are of particular importance, which can be identified by users without aids and recognized as genuine, but at the same time can only be produced with high technical or economic effort.
- security elements are watermarks, which can only be introduced into a document of value during papermaking, or printed images produced by intaglio printing, which are characterized by characteristic tactility, which is easily recognizable even to the layman, which can be achieved by other printing methods and in particular by copying machines or scanners not reproduced.
- the line or intaglio printing technique has for the printing of security papers and documents of value a great importance.
- the intaglio printing is characterized by the fact that in order to produce a desired print image in a printing plate linear Wells are engraved. These depressions are produced by means of a suitable engraving tool or by etching.
- the intaglio technique allows for a very thick paint application compared to other common printing techniques.
- the paper can be pressed by the high pressure forces in the color-free areas in the engraving of the printing plate and thereby provided with an embossed relief structure.
- the thick ink layer produced in the intaglio printing process, together with the partial deformation of the paper surface, can also be easily felt manually by the layman and can thus easily be detected on the basis of its tactility as an authenticity feature.
- the tactility is not imitated with a copier, so that the intaglio printing technology provides high-quality protection against counterfeiting.
- the printed sheets are stacked after a gravure printing step for further processing. Due to the different profile heights of the sheet surface and the embossed intaglio printing often results in a very wavy pile, especially if the sheets are printed only in small areas with intaglio. This leads to easy slipping of the individual sheets and thus favors a bad Abliege .
- the GB 1390 302 A1 describes an anti-counterfeit security paper having a gravure printable surface and a gravure of distributed and raised colored pattern elements on that surface, the replica containing at least one image and background each made up of pattern elements of the replica and wherein the pattern elements of the image are different from those of the background such that the contrast between an image and the background changes as the viewing angle of the impression changes in at least one plane perpendicular to the surface, the elements of image and image Background are arranged so that a picture from an angle is not visually detectable, but appears in clear contrast to the ground from a different viewing angle in the plane.
- the EP 1842 665 A1 describes the production of security papers, in particular banknotes, with the step of gravure printing on the security papers to cover approximately the entire surface of each security paper with embossed gravure patterns or a combination of embossed gravure patterns and shallow gravure patterns, wherein at least a portion of the embossed intaglio patterns and or flat gravure pattern is printed with a transparent or semi-transparent gravure ink.
- the EP 1466 755 A1 describes a sheet and a security document obtainable from the sheet, the sheet having corners and sides joined to each other with corner reinforcing watermarks provided on at least two corners of the sheet, the reinforcing watermarks being formed by varying the grammage of paper fibers form positive watermarks which increase the stiffness of the sheet in the corners, and wherein at least one of the reinforcing watermarks has a border, wherein at least a portion of the border with respect to at least a portion of a border another watermark has a complementary shape and is arranged to this in close fit.
- the WO 2005/080089 A1 describes a safety device comprising a substrate having a reflective portion provided with a raised line structure, wherein the line structure defines a plurality of segments and each segment is formed from a corresponding group of substantially parallel raised lines, and the lines of at least three segments extend in different directions, and each line is formed of or carries an ink which does not fully extend into the spaces between the lines or is sufficiently translucent between the lines so as not to obscure the reflective surface between the lines each segment causes incident light to be non-diffractively reflected in a variable manner as the angle of incidence changes.
- the invention has for its object to provide a security paper sheet of the type mentioned above, which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art and in particular has an improved stacking behavior during production.
- the invention is also intended to provide a corresponding production method.
- a plurality of compensating elements having a raised relief structure is additionally produced, which are distributed over the surface of the security paper sheet to compensate for the profile of the security paper sheet.
- the compensation elements act as profile-compensating spacers, thereby ensuring improved stacking behavior and a lower level of deviation.
- a better air exchange and a better drying of the printing inks of intaglio printing motifs is achieved.
- the compensation elements are distributed not only in the area of the individual benefits, but over the entire surface of the security paper sheet.
- the compensating elements are advantageously generated only outside the intaglio motifs in order not to influence their design and profile height.
- Each security paper sheet contains several individual benefits, wherein the compensation elements are arranged substantially uniformly within the individual benefits in order to achieve an overall substantially uniform profile height.
- the compensation elements are arranged differently in different individual benefits. The latter allows the arrangement use the compensation elements as machine-readable coding to identify the individual benefits.
- the coding can be achieved alternatively or in addition to the coding on the arrangement of the compensation elements on different contour shapes and / or edges of the compensation elements in the individual benefits.
- the flanks preferably differ in their steepness and / or spatial form.
- the flanks can be provided with steps.
- the balancing elements are advantageously produced with soft edges with little steepness to minimize the risk of paper damage during printing.
- the compensation elements are preferably formed with rounded outline shapes, such as circles, ellipses or ovals.
- the engraving depth of the engraved engraving motifs also suitably taken into account, since it is usually sufficient for the profile compensation when the engraving depth of the compensation elements is in the range of the maximum engraving depth of the intaglio printing motifs.
- an engraving depth between 40 .mu.m and 260 .mu.m, preferably between 60 .mu.m and 120 .mu.m, more preferably between 80 .mu.m and 100 .mu.m in question.
- the compensation elements can be executed as blind embossing or printed in color.
- the security paper sheet is provided with at least one further intaglio motif in a further intaglio printing step, wherein the compensating elements are substantially leveled in the further intaglio printing step. While the advantages of the method can then be used for the first intaglio printing step, the finished security paper has a smooth surface without tactile detectable compensating elements.
- the security paper sheet may be provided with intaglio images on opposite sides in the first intaglio printing step and the further intaglio printing step.
- the designs of the intaglio printing motifs produced in the first intaglio printing step and the further intaglio motifs generated in the further intaglio printing step are advantageously matched to one another in order to substantially level the compensating elements of the first intaglio printing step in the further intaglio printing step.
- the security paper sheet contains a plurality of individual benefits, wherein at least a portion of the compensation elements is arranged with an elongated shape in one or more corners of the individual use.
- the cut-out value documents can thus be given increased stability in the corner regions which are particularly prone to kinking.
- at least a part of the compensating elements is arranged with an elongated shape at one or more edge centers of the individual components. The cut-out documents of value can thereby be given increased stability in the central areas which are particularly stressed during folding.
- the invention also includes a security paper sheet for the production of security or value documents and the like having at least one intaglio print motif with a raised relief structure.
- a plurality of compensating elements with a raised relief structure for compensating the profile of the security paper sheet is distributed over the surface of the security paper sheet. Details of the design and arrangement of the compensation elements can be found in the above description of the generic manufacturing method.
- the invention also includes a value document, such as a banknote, an identification card or the like, made of a security paper sheet of the type described.
- a value document such as a banknote, an identification card or the like, made of a security paper sheet of the type described.
- the invention relates to a gravure printing plate for embossing a security paper sheet for security or value documents with at least one gravure motif in the form of a relief structure, in which a plurality of distributed over the surface of the intaglio printing plate compensation engraving elements is provided with relief structure to compensate for the profile of the security paper sheet to be printed.
- the balance engraving elements are distributed over the entire area of the intaglio printing plate, i. H. not only in the areas for the individual benefits.
- the gravure motifs of the printing plate in the security paper sheet produce the above intaglio print motifs
- the compensating engraved elements produce the aforementioned compensating elements.
- the details of the design and arrangement of the compensating engraving elements can therefore be taken from the above description of the generic manufacturing method.
- Fig.1 1 shows a schematic view of a banknote 10 which, in addition to customary design and security elements, not shown in the figure, has two intaglio print motifs 12 and 14, namely a portrait representation 12 and a value number 14 which can be tactually recorded by the user.
- the banknote 10 contains a plurality of blind-embossed compensating elements 16 with a raised relief structure which, in the manner explained below, serve to equalize the profile of the security paper sheets in the production of banknotes 10.
- the compensation elements 16 are distributed outside the design elements 12 and 14 over the surface of the banknote 10 and barely noticeable by the blind embossing for the user.
- Fig. 2 shows a cross section through the banknote 10 along the line II-II of Fig. 1 in the area of one of the coined balancing elements 16.
- the compensating elements 16 are formed with round shapes, for example in the form of flat knobs.
- the compensating elements 16 appearing on the front side of the banknote as elevations 16E form depressions 16V seen from the banknote rear side.
- the lateral extent A of the compensation elements 16 in the exemplary embodiment is about 300 ⁇ m and in principle can be between about 60 ⁇ m and about 2000 ⁇ m.
- the embossing depth h of the compensating elements 16 in the exemplary embodiment is about 90 ⁇ m, but in principle can be between about 40 ⁇ m and about 260 ⁇ m.
- the compensation elements 16 are formed with soft flanks 18, that is to say with flanks with a small steepness.
- the compensating elements 16 may have an average flank angle of about 30 ° to about 50 °.
- the tear strength of the banknote paper is not negatively affected by the addition of soft edge compensating elements.
- Fig. 3 (a) first shows a conventional security paper sheet 20 with several individual benefits 22, which are each provided in intaglio with a portrait representation 12 and a tactile detectable value number 14. Due to the different profile heights of the sheet surface and the two intaglio printing elements 12,14 arises in the stacking of such sheet 20 in the production of a very wavy pile 24, as in Fig. 3 (b) shown. Such wavy stack 24 favor slipping of the individual sheets 20 and therefore have a comparatively poor stacking behavior.
- Fig. 4 (a) again shows a security paper sheet 30 with several individual benefits 32, which now in addition to the executed in intaglio portrait prints 12 and the tactile detectable numerical values 14 additionally has a plurality of blind embossed compensation elements 16.
- the engraving depth of the compensation elements 16 is set to the engraving depth of the intaglio printing motifs 12,14 and is preferably in the order of the largest occurring engraving depth, in the embodiment of the engraving depth of the value 14.
- the compensation elements 16 are also substantially uniform over the surface of the security paper sheet 30th distributed and thus effect an effective balance of the overall profile of the security paper sheet 30th
- the security paper sheets 30 according to the invention thereby come to rest substantially more uniformly on one another and form a substantially quieter stack, as is the case with the stacked cutout of FIG Fig. 4 (b) and the sectional view of a complete stack 34 of Fig. 4 (c) illustrated.
- a quieter stack can be better processed in the further processing steps. How out Fig. 4 (b) immediately apparent, the Abliege is minimized by acting as a spacer compensation elements 16.
- a further advantage consists in the improved drying of intaglio printing inks of the motif elements 12 and 14.
- those subregions which have no intaglio printing elements 12, 14 are calendered by the high pressure during the intaglio printing step and are thereby significantly reduced in their profile height.
- these often large-area calendered subregions are close to each other, so that an air exchange over the sheet surface can take place only to a very limited extent.
- the compensating elements 16 according to the invention distributed over the surface of the security paper sheet 30 lead to an improved supply of air to the areas 12, 14 printed in intaglio printing, so that the applied ink receives more time and more air for drying.
- the compensating elements 16 may be distributed regularly or randomly over the surface of the individual end 32 of the security paper sheet 30.
- the maximum distance between adjacent compensation elements does not exceed a maximum size dependent on the paper used.
- the compensating elements 16, by virtue of their arrangement, can realize a machine-readable coding, thereby making the individual benefits 32 distinguishable.
- the compensation elements 44 are designed as elongated ellipses whose major axes are each aligned parallel and substantially in the direction of the respective corner 42.
- the compensation elements 44 are formed by elongated ellipses with directed to each corner 42 main axes.
- Compensating elements 56 can be arranged with advantage also at the edge centers of the longitudinal edges 52 and transverse edges 54 of a banknote 50, as in the two embodiments of Fig. 6 shown.
- the stiffness of the banknote 50 can be increased in the region of the edge centers which are heavily loaded in use by folding.
- the compensating elements can be tactually detected after production by their relief structure.
- the second intaglio printing step in two-sided intaglio printing.
- the compensating elements generated in the second intaglio printing step can be felt on the finished security paper.
- the tactile detectability is not desired and the surface of the security paper is to be smooth outside of the design elements created in intaglio printing, in the case of two-sided intaglio printing, for example, it is possible to introduce the compensating elements only in the first intaglio printing step, for example for the production of the banknotes back.
- the described advantages of the invention can then be used for the process steps of the first gravure printing step.
- a subsequent second intaglio printing step for example for the production of the banknotes front side, no compensating elements are then embossed. Rather, the already existing compensation elements of the first intaglio printing step are equalized by the high embossing pressure of the second intaglio printing step and thus no longer appear in the finished security paper. It is understood that for this purpose the designs of the front and the back are suitably adapted to each other with advantage.
